  1. I see that one of the terrorists who (allegedly) entered the station at Mumbia and wiped out a hundred odd people with grenades and machine gunfire has now been charged with entering the station without a platform ticket... I hope they throw the book at him for that one. Read all about it
  2. Perhaps.... You surely cannot dispute this IHE comment all the same : The two saviours are beginning to make a few mystifying decisions and I am concerned as we are in the biggest scrap of our existence and they are making - what I consider to be - errors of judgement.
  3. Yes.... definitely bring him back in along with McBain, Hastings, and Odhiambo...
  4. Thanks to Tony Blair it's not just Americans that would suffer a fate like that.
  5. Have you forgotten to take your medication today?
  6. His brother Ross Macwhirter also no longer with us. He was murdered by the IRA after unwisely making some derogatory remarks about them.
  7. There was a similar situation at Hamilton a few weeks back with a couple of a$$holes in our support giving Blackie dogs abuse.... and that was before the game had even feckin started.
  8. The only sightings the midfield had of the ball yesterday was when it about 60ft above their heads.....
  9. :thumb04: :018: Thank feck we also possess an ability to laugh at one another..!! ;) :015:
  10. It was totally unacceptable. Apart from giving the appearance of suffering from a collective hangover, it was obvious that they had not prepared for this one - tactically, or in any kind of a way. I'll be interested to see what steps our recently installed new management team take to avoid further decline. We need some answers from them.
  11. Thats the problem though Mantis, most of the attemped preservation is totally artificial and the costs incurred for little or no return is obviously starting to irk many.I'd be all for support being given in the western isles and communities where there is a genuine historical connection with Gaelic and the culture but Gaelic medium schools in Perth,Glasgow and Inverness are ludicross. As i've mentioned on here before, my old man is a native speaker ,learning English when he went to Secondary school, and reckons to have never seen one person from the medium system continue there interest and support into adult life, numbers supporting mods etc continue to dwindle and as you say a couple of generations will probably see it gone, sad but inevitable Could not agree more Mantis and H/Dee... It would make a lot of sense to spend more on preserving the language throughout the Western Isles than to squander it on needless creations like bi-lingual signs in areas where Gaelic was never ever spoken. I don't accept that the language will die out altogether within a couple of generations. I know of a family who moved from Sheffield to Ness in Lewis about 4 years ago and have successfully manged to become bi-lingual in that short space of time. As long as there is a healthy interest in these parts in preserving the language there is no reason why it shouldn't survive.
  12. Just heard tonight that Canada has refused Respect MP, George Galloway entry into that country after certain Jewish factions complained he could be a threat to national security because of his beliefs on the Israeli/Lebanon/Gaza situation. How pathetic is that?
  13. Well now, that would make sense..... There are far more Polish speakers than Gaelic speakers around this area many of whom aren't fluent English speakers.
  14. It's completely and utterly stark, staring bonkers CD.... the lunatics now appear to be running the asylum. Did you know that accommodation providers in Inverness have been invited to a free lunch at the Drumrossie Hotel, and promised hundreds of pounds worth of free advertising in gaelic brochures etc, extolling the virtues of Inverness? These brochures are presumably intended to target all those who can only read Gaelic! The kind offer came via a local public-funded agency Bord na Gadhlig, who quite clearly have been allocated more money than they know what do do with.
  15. Somebody should have got the Mantis to provide the pictures for this.... But the music's great!
  16. Yes.... and there's nothing quite like a Scottish education!
  17. You certainly won't need it next season.... ;) :thumb04: :018:
  18. What a question - and what a project for Lady Madonna... I hope this thread will run and run - it could be interesting to find out if there are big differences between what home based and overseas Scots think about this one...... I'm giving this some serious thought and will get back to you... Good answers Scotty, although they do make me wonder why you emigrated - and why Canada?
  19. Of course not Muir-Jaggie... the site runs itself. We are very fortunate however in having a couple of serious financial backers at the helm - Scotty and CaleyD are second only to Bill Gates in rerms of remuneration they have taken from CTO... These guys have pensions plans that would make Fred Goodwin jealous...
  20. Falkirk would be top of my list for the chop after the shameless way they cheated us in the cup tie. Still.... We'll get some revenge for that on Saturday..
  21. Is there a pub anywhere near the ground by where our lot will be meeting up?
  22. Quote : Gaelic has been on life support for years - drive up to the Highlands and the signposts are in Gaelic and English, but pull off the A9 and the Gaelic disappears along with the tourists. Schools and playgroups get government funding for promoting Gaelic, and local libraries are well stocked with Gaelic books - all in pristine condition, almost as though no one ever reads them. English migrants like to see their kids learning Gaelic, while the locals would prefer their children learn something someone else speaks - ideally someone with money Brilliant... :thumb04:
  23. I agree with Mantis... I'd go with the same line-up that beat Rangers at Ibrox.. Esson Tokely Munro Mihadjuks Djebi-Zadi Proctor Duncan Black Morais Foran Rooney
  24. Agreed the actual cost of putting up a few signs might not amount to a fortune - but just look at the infrastructure behind the erection of all these stupid, pointless signs which benefit no one. We have : A Gaelic Development Officer on a salary of ?46,000 who oversees all this bullsh!t... A Senior Translation Officer on a salary of ?33,000 Not forgetting an Assistant Translation Officer, who in turn is assisted by freelance translators... As can be seen from Birdog's story link - even on these salaries they can still manage to make a complete erse of their stupid pointless fecking signs... Time to call a halt to this feckin gravy train.
  25. Minimal? Inverness councillor Jim Crawford was stunned to learn the council is advertising for "a senior translation officer" for Gaelic, who will earn a salary of up to ?33,474 a year ? although the lion's share will come from Bord na Gaidhlig, another organisation funded by the public purse. The officer will translate committee minutes, policies, plans and signposts into Gaelic.
