  5. Caley at the Valley Inverness concluded their pre-season with a 1-0 win at Charlton Athletic in the Colin Powell Testimonial. It was a useful work out for both clubs with Inverness just having the edge and victory was rubber stamped when Josh Meekings scored a superb winner after a long run from defence, and a give and take ended with him angling the ball home. One hundred and thirty two made the long trek to watch their team and they were rewarded with a resolute display and a super goal in the Capital and plenty of memories of the weekend away. Immortal Howden Ender ventured South from Chorley to see the sights and he will have a match report for us when he recovers. Didn't we have a lovely day, the day we went to Charlton, Riley and me, Zogg, GJ and Adie - well that was as good an away day as I have enjoyed in feckin yonks. RESPECT to Red Card for blagging the four hospitality spots. We saw more of Colin Powell than anyone else in the ground and the only negative was yon Jim Davidson constantly trying to sit with us and constantly asking fer photties and autographs. And feck me is Theo Foley still a hard man in his feckin seventies ?!! Never did find the Pickwick but found Donview and a few crew members in the Rose of Denmark although we missed the Antigallican because of the EDL presence and simply flashed the kilts as we went past. Still we had to be sober(ish)and uphold the reputation of the club by hobnobbing in the Testimonial Suite. And the only thing that we can say about our accommodation and the environs in Woolwich Arsenal is feckin WOW. Saw more ladies of the night in one Woolwich pub than we suspected in the whole of Soho. I hope somebody on YouTube has posted the clip off Red Card trying to feed the beggars apparently lactose tolerant dog with a cheeseburger and our spat with the Ascot returning Finnish females and their fascination hats !! Anyway to the game. That was as fine a performance in a friendly as I have ever witnessed from an Inverness team. We simply bossed the first half and Draper could have had a brace. We never really looked like conceding and the back four have really got it together. We played football throughout and a real passing game, although it was sideways, backwards and possession orientated at times. The second half was more even but again we always looked the more probable to nick it - and we did - although I thought that Dorans cross was out of play but it was a great finish from Meekings who had started the move with an interception in his own half. The away support was as vociferous as ever and it appeared that our Tremarco song was more welcomed than our Richie Foran ditty. And was it not great to see the 30 year plus/plus choir pumping out the Ultras signature tune without the feckin effort of jumping up and down. I would love to know what Terry said to the players at the end of the game as he appeared livid - or perhaps it was because we had finished off the red wine in hospitality. But Terry did give Colin Powell an exclusive bottle of Glenfiddich. As fer the tactics it was mainly a 4-2-3-1 formation switching although we ended up with Polworth and McKay up front in a traditional 4-4-2 at the close. MEEKINGS just pinched by MotM award for his contribution to the winning goal but was equalled by Warren otherwise. Charlton Athletic: 0 Start XI: Hamer, Solly, Wiggins, Morrison, Dervite; Jackson, Gower, Stephens; Pritchard, Harriott, Kermorgan Subs: Button, Wilson, Cort, Wood, Evina, Green, Cousins, Hollands, Cook, Pigott. Inverness CT: 1 (Meekings 80) Start XI: Brill, Raven, G Shinnie, Vincent, Warren, Meekings, McKay, Draper, Doran, Williams, Polworth. Subs: Esson, Ross, Devine, Greenhalgh, Tremarco, Cooper. 6. Is there a report forthcoming for the front page or will I dissect this one and remove any incriminating evidence.
  7. Semi-Finals MVG no handling being under pressure from Lewis. 8-4 down, will take some doing to get out of this, but he can turn it around quickly. Lewis looks as though he is practising on a Sunday afternoon with his mates. No sooner typed than done, back to 7-8 now, ooooft. Well done Adrian Lewis, cool as a cucumber, 17-15 winner.
  8. @ICTFC:- Brill, Raven, Shinnie, Vincent, Warren, Meekings, McKay, Draper, Doran, Williams, Polworth. Subs :- Esson, Ross, Devine, Greenhalgh, Tremarco, Cooper. Twitter feeds from Charlton Athletic FC ‏@CAFCofficial as well. Official ICTFC ‏@ICTFC Just a few minutes until the Colin Powell Testimonial kicks off here at The Valley. @CAFCofficial v @ICTFC Charlton Athletic FC ‏@CAFCofficial We are off and under way at The Valley! 5' Charlton with the first foray into the final third, competently dealt with. Follow up corner a bit more challenging, but cleared. 7' Now a first chance for ICT too, as Liam Polworth curls just over from a free-kick from about 20 yards. 0-0 here. 11' Charlton #14, Pritchard, with a half chance from a tight angle, but it carries across goal and safely out. RossP ‏@RossP_ICT Protected account Ahhh... That makes more sense. At Arbroath I thought Brill was shouting 'shite, shite'... turns out it was 'shape, shape' CAFC Player ‏@CAFCPlayer LIVE COMMENTARY: Listen to Charlton v @ictfc here --> http://bit.ly/17KJCGk #cafc 13' A wee spell of pressure from Charlton who are closing down quick and not allowing any time on the ball for us. 18' WOODWORK! Ross Draper hits the post for ICT. A scuffed pass fortunately fell to him, but a great effort from the edge of the box 20' Free Kick - Polworth crosses it to Meekings at back post, headed back across goal, Draper shot smothered by Charlton keeper. Charlton Athletic FC ‏@CAFCofficial 21' Nice throw-in set-piece finds Pritchard, but, for the second his time today, his shot goes out for a, erm, throw-in....again 26 minutes gone and still @CAFCofficial 0 v 0 @ICTFC tempting fate.................. 28' Not the best quick free-kick I've ever seen, as ICT play it straight to Johnnie Jackson, but his pass to Yann is just off 30' Chance! Gower intercepts and frees Harriott whose cross is met Well by Kermorgant, but Brill saves low down. 0-0 33' Doran with shot on target, Mckay pounces on the rebound and a hint that he might have been fouled in the box...nothing given. Charlton Athletic FC ‏@CAFCofficial A sight no Charlton fan wants to see as Yann collides heavily with an ad board. Early estimates are the board is out for 6-8 weeks. Lot of movement and fluidity in our setup...aside from back 4 & Brill, not sure anyone else has a fixed position. @ICTFC 42' Free Kick to Caley Thistle 35 out. Williams inches away from finding the head of Warren at the back (right) post. Official ICTFC ‏@ICTFC 8s Raven ball in is just missed by Mckay, second ball from Doran comes off Mckays head and goes narrowly wide...last play of the half. Birmingham City lynne macdonald ‏@lynneictfan 1m @ICTFC sounds like the guys are doing us proud :-) 69' Great defending by Shinnie to deny Charlton what might have been a golden opportunity. Doran looking more keen to run at defenders in the second half...we'll not dwell on the final shot from that one...a tad wide. Shot from Charlton #11 equal to Dorans last effort. Oh Golly................Change for @ICTFC as Shnnie is replaced by Tremarco. Ben Greenhalgh also came on a few minutes ago for Caley. 12. Into the Valley of Woolwich A new season beckons and our pre-season climaxes at the Valley, home of Charlton Athletic in a game marked down as the Paddy Powell Testimonial. Some intrepid Caley Jags Away day specialists have made the journey down to the big smoke, by road, plane, sea, air and alcohol to witness this final fixture before the season starts, and one Immortal Howden Ender has used his spare time on the journey to fill us in on the weekend ahead. The lads from Dunfermline can help us out here..........Take it away The Skids...... Some punters have commented that away trips for pre season friendlies are both expensive and unnecessary. The faithful who have followed ICT to Fleetwood, Yeovil, Bath and Aldershot in recent times would probably unanimously disagree with that way of thinking. The trip to Charlton is undoubtedly a "jolly" to many of the away fans but it is also the first real "test" of this season for the team, an opportunity to see how the newbies perform at a higher level and against a considerably higher standard of opposition. It is also probably as good a game as we could get prior to the start of the league campaign and hopefully we will uphold the name of Scottish football. It is also however an opportunity for the surprisingly fair crew of ICT supporters living in Englandshire and allows them a chance to savour the TerryandMo away day atmosphere and not spend a fortune in doing so. So why Charlton? Is it because of Sergei Baltacha who braved the merger days with Dougal and is now more known for his advert starring role for Compare the Meerkat campaign? Perhaps it is because of Mr Marsella and his contacts or perhaps there is a bond between our Tel Boy and the impressive and ever improving Chris Powell. Lets just hope that it is a fairly good testimonial turn out for Colin Powell who sounds like their answer to Tommy Cumming although Powell could play football as well as cutting the grass. There will probably be a strong Charlton outfit on display as there next outing is also a league start at Bournemouth. One of the away side to look at for the future apparently is Jordan Cousins who has emerged in pre season and impressed in the win against Dagenham. New goalie Ben Hamer will also be out to impress his new club whilst Harriott in midfield will be cooking in this heat and striker Pigott will be jockeying for space. The "danger man" would appear to be Chris Solly who has been their player of the year award for the last two seasons. Unfortunately there do not appear to be any Jocks in their squad so there will be a multitude of sassenachs on display. You would have thought that they would have been tempted to look North following the success of Christian Dailly who won their player of the year award in 2010 when he must have been in his early 50's !! As fer ICT this will be my first opportunity to run the Smileymometer over the newbies and hopefully quite a few will get a run out and will survive the run down afterwards. I am hoping to be impressed by Dean Brill in goals as I suspect that he may be thrown in at the deep end sooner rather than later although witnessing the return of Esson would be an even more appreciated compensation. There are evidently a few others, many who have received encouraging reviews already, such as James Vincent, "Bob" Marley Watkins, "Golly" Tremarco and the Blue Peter kid Ben Greenhalgh (or however it is spelt) - perhaps there may even be a new Norwegian striker making his bow. In many ways however it will be nice to go to a pre-season game when the majority of the starting X1 will be the same as the previous season and Terry, Mo and Steve can only be congratulated on that unlikely achievement - and lets hope that wee McKay continues to do his " Billy's Boots" impersonation. Left the Costa Chorley in blue skies at Sunrise and just passing Crewe the weather remains glorious although the forecast for London is thunderstorms. Whatever the weather this is going to be yet another fun filled frolic for your truly - joining up with the Juanjo Away at Euston and hopefully to meet up with the Englandshire connections, old and new, in a variety of hostelries on the Woolwich Road, Oh and don't expect the report until tomorrow !!
  13. It's all my fault.
  14. I'll expect a clean edited version of the weekend from you Mr Ender, would be good to kick start the front page for this season.

  16. Can you compile a few legible paragraphs for your fellow supporters and forum members, then your club needs you. We are always on the look out for people to help out with the Previews and Reports for all our games throughout the season. How does it work, I hear you say. Simples, you send your article into the editorial section, we edit it if required and add bits to it and hey presto, we have an article ready to publish on the main page of Caley Thistle Online. We need to have plenty of writers as what usually happens is that as the season progresses, the level of interest in our budding reporters drops off somewhat and the onus is then on one or two people to come up with the goods every week. It's also good to have differing views on the team as folk get cheesed off with the same blurb week in week out It's not rocket science. We are looking for a decent grasp of the English language, but that is easy enough with spellcheckers etc, and add a touch of humour, a bit of name dropping and some factual information then off you go. It's also an interesting hobby if you like, and once you get hooked then you will churn out articles with ease. So, if anybody wants to become involved in the roller coaster that is ICT, then come aboard the editorial express and tell the world about your club through your very own eyes. Leave your names on this topic or PM me and we will take it from there. I will start an editorial conversation on Private message which will run all season and keep us up to date with who is covering what.
