  1. ...not to mention that it will not be too many Olympics in the future before Scotland will be sending a team in our own right. Yes a GB team and a Scotland team. Then everyone will be happy Precisely

The flaw in that argument is that there is hardly the money in Scottish football for clubs in the top division to maintain full time football far less to fund some 'trickle down'.

It wasn't going into the league per se that bankrupted Gretna it was the late Brooks Miles paying full time players ten times as much as their opponents in the then Third Division and continuing the lunacy all the way up the leagues in much the same way as Livingston had before them and with even more devastating consequences.

    I agree with Mantis...
  6. Decently priced and, as Caley D says, be relaxed about availability, neither team are likely to sell out their available tickets. The only sell out has already taken place with the SFA selling out the fans with the thoroughly inconvenient Sunday lunch time kick off.
  7. Not being cheeky but were you also present, by any chance, for Colin Stein's hatrick? No, listened on the radio. It was really 9-0 with big Coco getting 5 but the BBC misreported it My first International was 2-1 v Czechoslovakia in September 1973 when we qualified for the 1974 World Cup. Mine too. A Hampden crowd in excess of a hundred thousand and the newspaper headline the following day 'We bounced the Czechs'..
  8. No It has all gone a bit quiet at the club for contracts with Ross, Watkins and Ravens-should we all be assuming as nothing has been forthcoming for a few wks they will be staying :)
  9. I tend to agree from a sporting merit point of view but, from a practical perspective, the extra revenue generated from the match against Celtic taking place in Glasgow means that our club which would, without the odd windfall, trade at a loss, is likely to break even again, or perhaps even turn a very modest profit, for the financial year. Given that we all want full time football and a healthy club, the odd sporting injustice is a price we have to pay.
  10. Its all well and good to say that but we have now said that the last few weeks Sitting 3rd in the league, approaching April, and people still find something to be negative about. That might just be because getting beaten yet again by a very mediocre Partick side is something to be negative about.
  11. Not only have they sold out to TV, they have, through gross incompetence, hugely undersold out. It would be bad enough if they had had the wit to negotiate a lucrative deal with the broadcasters but the fact that the fans are being messed about for relative peanuts adds considerable insult to injury...
  12. The SFA, having sold out to Rupert Murdoch, and scheduled a kick off impossible to reach from Inverness by public transport, ought to fund as many buses as we can fill.
  13. My money is on don't care...
  14. Contempt and disregard for our fans, we deserve a Hampden kick off at three on a Saturday and there is only one way now of ensuring that.
  15. Another merger thread imminent... Nothing to do with the merger but relates to insulting and disrespecting the history of the club and a fair number of it's supporters. You may observe, from user names if nothing else, that there are a number of regular users on this site who are Jaggies. As far as I can see, not a single one of whom has the ignorance or arrogance to refer to the club as Thistle.
  16. Congratulations to Caley in reaching the semi finals and making history by going one round further than the Elgin team of 1968.
  17. There does seem to be a huge fragility beyond the first team squad this season.
  18. Seems that there is little point in us turning up for this fixture. Being listening to Sportsound (god knows why) and, according to some Weejie pundit, Derek Ferguson ? the winners of tomorrow's quarter final replay are 'playing for the cup as they will take care of Inverness in the semis and whoever they go on to meet in the final'..
  19. There are literally one or two who are competent such as Richard Gordon and Jim Spence but the vast majority are woeful...
  20. Not sure how Renegade taking a well deserved humorous swipe at the incompetence of the BBC detracts in any way from the equally well deserved praise being heaped on young Ryan.
  21. So, in summary, only the OP thinks this is remotely good idea.
  22. Once again the best left back in the land is scandalously omitted from the national squad. Anyone prepared to bet against him suddenly coming to Strachan's attention next season ?
  23. .....and it will bounce off yet again....
  24. Personally, I make no apologies for supporting our fellow Highlanders except when they play us.
  25. I didn't. I bought ticket for County end ......and me......
