  1. I am sure that the fans will be watching closely to see whether this is indeed genuine rather than a cynical ploy to sell season tickets. Mr Gardiner has not proved to be the best communicator so far in his tenure. However, we know that John Robertson has genuine empathy for the fans and is an excellent communicator. Given that he no longer has the burden of coaching responsibilities, perhaps this is a role he could perform as part of his new remit.
  2. Terry Butcher was the right man for the right time and raised the profile of the club and laid the foundations for the success that followed. However, even in the unlikely event he would return, he is no longer the right person and the time is not right for such an appointment quite apart from the disrespectful manner in which he engineered and conducted his disastrous move to Easter Road. An important part of our past but time to move on.
  3. Pleased to read that we at least offered Neil McCann the job. That shows ambition despite our constrained financial circumstances. Proper, constructive and regular communication between the board and the fans is welcome and long overdue. Let's hope that there is a sincere commitment to that and not something that they are merely paying lip service to.
  4. The bill for having both on the books would be monstrous.
  5. In fact, it seems just a single individual who it turns out wasn't a Rangers fan at all. As usual, the BBC have distorted the coverage of this great institution and those who support it as a result of which the club are fully justified in continuing to block any coverage by the BBC for at least another decade.
  6. Well deserved but Dave Carson and Daniel McKay are very unfortunate to be omitted.
  7. Two more days have passed and still not a word of condemnation from the club. The club knew that something like this was planned. They ought to have warned in advance that anyone gathering would be banned from attending matches at Ibrox for at least ten years. The very least they can do now is is to state that such a ban will apply to anyone identified by the authorities as taking part in the gathering with anyone identified as taking part in the violence being banned for life. I have no doubt that there are decent Rangers fans and many of them but this was not a small minority. Between fifteen and twenty thousand selfish morans gathered in a city that has a spike in infection that could yet translate to the rest of the country and Prejudice us all. There is a thread that stretches through Barcelona, via Manchester and now, twice this year in the middle of a global pandemic to a devastated George Square which has to be broken and only strong words and even stronger actions from the club can do so. A contuing silence is just not good enough.
  8. Given that we are searching for a new manager and half a squad for next season, I am anticipating there will be a fair bit to talk about over the next few weeks.
  9. The police, the public and politicians have rightly and vocally condemned the appalling scenes of 'celebration' witnessed in Glasgow yesterday. As for a reaction from the club, the silence from Ibrox has been deafening.
  10. Crown and Union merged in 1885 to form Inverness Thistle who went on to win the inaugural Highland League title some 8 years later.
  11. He will have been earning ten times what we can currently afford Not a remotely realistic prospect.
  12. I would have him back assuming he would be willing to return within our current pay structure. He was badly treated the last time he was at the club and a return could well prove much more fruitful for both parties than his first spell.
  13. Still not sure about the Sturgeon v Salmond narrative but, if that ever was the case, we appear to have a clear winner.
  14. The People of Pollockshaws 1, The Home Office 0 Well done to the hundreds of decent individuals of all creeds, religions and ethnic backgrounds who stood up to the racist Home Office and secured the liberty, at least for now, of two of their friends and neighbours. They should be very proud of themselves and we should be thankful to them.
  15. Neil McCann assisted by Billy Dodds would be my first choice. Failing that, I would go for a young coach with potential and ambition. Any lack of experience could be compensated for by Robbo's sage advice.
  16. Perhaps the best of both worlds. Firstly, huge thanks to Robbo for his efforts as manager over the last four years but perhaps towards the end of that tenure it was beginning not to work so well either for the club or for him personally. This way, we can look for a fresh approach to the coaching side yet retain Robbo's immense experience and contacts within the game as well as demonstrating loyalty on both sides. Has all the potential to be a win win situation.
  17. Today is when the MSPs in the new parliament get sworn in and get to work. With the retirement of Ken Macintosh, their first task will be to elect a new Presiding Officer. Since the parliament was reconvened we have had Presiding Officers from every mainstream party other than the Greens so my money will be on a Green MSP perhaps that experienced and very capable Alison Johnstone.
  18. Something we can agree on. Nationalism is indeed a philosophy worthy of contempt and it's to the credit of the mainstream parties in Scotland that none of them advocate it.
  19. An entirely valid argument which, following it to it's logical conclusion, means that since each of London, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle Upon Tyne all voted to remain within the European Union, they ought to have been given the opportunity to remain as Independent City states. More seriously, you make extremely well the argument why Scotland, which did not vote the same way as it's neighbour, in the EU referendum ought to be given the opportunity to choose a different path. There are many sound arguments for remaining within the Union. For goodness sake please employ them instead of resorting to this infantile and ridiculous nonsense!
  20. One very clear feature of the election is the continuing decline of the Liberal Democrats as a credible political entity. Not so very many years ago they were the third political force both North and South of the border and, as well as forming part of the first two Holyrood administrations, were later in power in Westminster in coalition with the Conservatives Now they are almost irrelevant in the London parliament, struggling to reach double figures and, only just, holding off the DUP for the dubious honour of being the fourth party. Things are even worse now in Edinburgh. Being reduced to only four seats means that they lose official party status with no place on the front bench, no automatic questions at FMQS and no right to a place on the, all Important, parliamentary committees. Very probably no invite to any Leader's debate in the next election in five years time. For goodness sake, they came within just a few hundred votes of losing Shetland ! Orkney and Shetland have been Liberal and then Lib Dem since Joe Grimmond was a lad and before I and almost everyone else on this site was born. Russell Johnston, Joe Grimmond and Charles Kennedy will be turning in their graves. I was going to add Jeremy Thorpe and Cyril Smith but decided perhaps best not to go there! Has this latest reversal ensured that the decline is terminal with no way back ? It's certainly more than a third party squeeze.
  21. and a possible contempt of court. The matter is subject to an ongoing criminal prosecution so nothing can be said that could be seen to prejudice that. That said, since there is no suggestion at the moment that he is coming to us, so there is no reason to comment at all.
  22. Each to their own. I prefer to believe that you can almost always respect the other side of most debates while still passionately disagreeing with it and those putting it.
  23. Can we please keep this debate respectful.
  24. You have a strange definition of 'rejection' This was indeed something of a referendum on a referendum and, in that context, the SNP received the highest number of votes, the highest percentage of the votes and won the most constituency seats ever and we have the highest ever pro independence majority in the history of the parliament all on the back of, by a considerable margin, the highest turnout in history. To put that into context, if the same parties had been contesting a Westminster election, whilst the Greens would have sadly been denied any seats through the unfairness of the first past the post system, the SNP would have 552 seats, Conservatives 44 seats, Lib Dems 36 seats and Labour 18. That would have been a far far higher proportion of seats and a far far greater majority than either Thatcher or Blair achieved at the height of their respective popularities and nobody would be arguing that they didn't have the clearest of democratic mandates to implement their clear manifesto policies. I accept that the argument over whether Scotland should be an independent nation is still to be won and that the country is divided right down the middle about that. However, the democratic argument over the right to hold a referendum has been decisively won and one can tell from the subtle change of tone from Downing Steeet that they know it There will be a referendum and the Scottish parliament will legislate for it once the immediate health, cultural and economic crisis is behind us. My best guess is that the legislation will be passed in the latter part of next year with the plebiscite taking place in early to mid 2023 and will in the end be on the basis of a S30 agreement. In the meantime, both governments need to cooperate on the basis of mutual respect to get us through the immediate crisis and focus firmly on that. It would help if Douglas Ross and his cohorts would learn to drop the mantra 'Stop #Indyref2' and offer something more positive and constructive in the meantime.
