Ian Black
Black has been issued with a 3 match ban and a fine of a week or two's pay. Hard to say if that is appropriate without knowing the size of the stakes involved, especially when betting against his own team.

They Came On Trial...
An article about Pusic mentioned that at the same time we had a young forward called Phil Marsh, who had been released by Man Utd. He eventually signed for Blackpool but never played for them, and has since made his way through 8 non-league clubs including FC Utd of Manchester, and is now at Guiseley.

They Came On Trial...
Adriano Pellegrino, that was it. Was here in July 2004 before our first SPL season. From Daily Record. AUSTRALIAN striker Adriano Pellegrino has been told he will not be offered a contract with Inverness Caley Thistle. Pellegrino arrived in the Highlands 10 days ago hoping to earn a deal. However, the former Adelaide United star, who had netted seven goals in his last two games for Australian semi-pro club Western Strikers, failed to impress in training and in a friendly against Forfar. Thistle are still seeking replacements for the departed David Bingham and Paul Ritchie, who netted 39 goals between them last season. However, director of football Graeme Bennett insists Pellegrino is not what they are looking for. Bennett said: 'Adriano has not been offered a contract because he is not any better that what we have already got. [ie Bayne & Hislop!) 'We are wanting players who are going to challenge for first-team places and we did not think he was going to be able to do that.' Since then he seems to have dropped back into midfield and has had a very decent career with the likes of Perth Glory. In 2010 he was back in Scotland, having a trial with Motherwell and claiming to have interest from Celtic.

Scottish Premiership Player of the Month
Terry would be the obvious choice for the Manager award, but maybe there isn't one any more. Has it been scrapped because the league doesn't have a sponsor to pay for it?

First ever winner of the SPFL era! Good to see the judges have looked beyond the easy option of choosing Billy.

Nah, Asda. But there's a B&Q over the road from their new ground.

At the 1998 U16 Euros we hosted games involving Portugal, Russia, Ukraine and Israel. Can't find team line-ups anywhere, but alas this was too early for Cristiano Ronaldo. The tournament was won by Ireland, including St Mirren's Jim Goodwin. So the standard can't have been great.

James Vincent for Northern Ireland
Even as a Division 1 club we had 2. (I almost added it was only for Canada, but at least they won stuff!)

Billy MacKay Northern Ireland
There's a story in the Sun today about James Vincent being linked with a call-up for Northern Ireland, with Terry talking him up.

Scotland - best of the worst?
Has anyone noticed that Wales have lost all 6 of their games that weren't against Scotland?! And if we'd held onto our leads and won instead of lost both those games, our home game against Croatia could have been the 2nd place decider.

Scotland - best of the worst?
With Scotland looking pretty likely to finish bottom of their WC qualifying group, I was trying to figure out if we would be the "best" team, or at least the highest ranked, to have suffered that rather embarrassing fate in the modern era. By modern era I suppose I mean the last 20 years or so, the time since UEFA was flooded with new participants after the break up of the former communist countries, along with the admission of numerous other mickey mouse states. Prior to the early 90's, qualifying groups were much smaller and consisted almost entirely of credible teams, with the only easy games being against Luxembourg and Malta. A look back through UEFA's WC and Euro qualifying tournaments reveals that the only nations with any real footballing pedigree to have finished bottom were Bulgaria and Wales. I would say that Bulgaria finishing bottom is actually a much greater demise than Scotland, given that they have achieved far more in recent decades and were World Cup semi-finalists in the 1990's. What is interesting to note is how quickly they have turned things around - from finishing bottom just 2 years ago, they are currently 2nd in their group, ahead of Czech R and Denmark. I just can't imagine that we would bounce back like that.

Boosting attendances
Only one way to find out. No harm in trying it for a few weeks and see what the out come is Many clubs have tried it many times. It just doesn't work. Adds a few hundred to the gate perhaps, but slashes revenue. Whilst not strictly comparable, here's an interesting example from this week. At full price, Aberdeen get at least 10,000. With free admission v Viking Stavanger, Aberdeen get........10,000.

Can You Spare a Couple of Hours?
They have a cool £1/4 mill in their last balance sheet, by the way. I know what you are saying, but this is a win-win situation in that participants are clearly willing to pay the entry fees and organisations like CJT get an additional source of income. The CJT volunteers should also have quite a satisfying time in helping grateful runners - and I say that as a world record breaking athlete myself (work that one out, Charles!)

I can't believe we've all forgotten the time TCS was treated to a virtuoso performance by the most valuable player of all, Gareth Bale.

Juninho crossed my mind, but only played against us at Parkhead it seems, and only sold for £12m anyway.
