Oh dear is not good news at all, if that is the £300,000 RM alluded to on the podcast then it sounds like we would have been depending on that to be a going concern. A bit unlucky for the club that this buyout happened, I guess.

I see the 2023 accounts still aren’t available at Companies House. No idea what is actually happening there but a possible explanation is that IF they filed paper copies, which they are entitled to do, then provided they were received by the specified deadline the club would have met its obligations. With paper copies, it usually takes Companies House about a week to scan and upload them.

But they didn’t, did they. Directors seem to have stopped making unconditional donations to the club a long time ago. The battery farm project created an asset, a risky asset, that they could purchase and provide the club with significant funds it would not otherwise have had.

There definitely some good years in the middle but from memory I think they were mainly our years in the top flight, where incomes are so much higher, and as an added bonus players can be sold for significantly higher amounts (£1m between Christie and Niculae being our best ones)

My first phrase was that the projects failed miserably, and I’m not disputing how damaging they have been in various respects. Just pointing out that they have made significant financial contributions to help te club’s finances. So you could say they were catastrophic and I would agree, but they were absolutely not financially catastrophic. Let’s not be in denial that they actually made us a lot of money, which is simple fact.

Both project failed miserably in terms of meeting their targets, but I’m not sure you are right that they were actually catastrophic financial failures. I know it’s not what anyone wants to hear, but these Gardiner projects seem to have made significant non-footballing contributions to ICT. RM stated last week that the club’s interest in the battery farm was recently sold for £250,000, and in the previous year or two there were statements that the club rented the stadium and provided other services to the concert company for sums that would surely have been well into 5 figures. So it seems to be the case that these crazy, failed schemes have actually generated more income than a year’s worth of season tickets.

Might be that, no idea, but £300,000 rent for a car park? SG is CEO of the century if he’s negotiated even a small fraction of that amount for us for renting out a bit of wasteland!

One of the many interesting revelations in the RM interview on the pod was that an receipt of about £300,000 expected in April had not come in yet (did I catch that right?). What could that be? The only sums of that magnitude I can think of would be monies from the football authorities, a transfer fee or sell on clause from another club, or perhaps a tax/VAT refund but I’m not sure what could have given rise to that, or any of them really. Any ideas?

As others have said, fair play to RM for offering to do this and well done to the pod guys. The Chairman provided a lot of interesting info and came across as very open and honest, no attempt to spin things, just telling it like he sees it, and I think we can all appreciate that even if we don’t agree with him. I thought, however, that he did a very poor job of explaining/justifying the Kelty move, when he had an opportunity to sell to fans exactly why it is needed or beneficial. He’s not a great communicator, as we already knew. The interview also highlighted that he is not a hands on, close to the detail type of chairman. He clearly relies heavily on others like the CEO, which is unsurprising as he has his own businesses to run full time. He also confirmed what to me has apparent for a long time, that he would happily step aside if someone else stepped forward. He was basically inviting them to do so.
