  1. Right now I'd take him back obviously but I think we can do better, we could certainly get better value for money.
  2. Robertson won us 2 trophies and got us into the SPL, he also got us through the Pittodrie spell and to Hampden twice. He signed Bayne, Dods, Black, Bingham, Proctor and Morgan for free (off the top of my head.. Hastings? Dargo? Wyness?) and was the first ICT manager to add a sense of purpose, team spirit and drive to our play. In terms of admitting errors of judgment, I really cant remember. In Brewsters current spell, he may have very questionable team selections but so far he appears to make an effort in change things after mistakes, even if he doesnt talk about it openly on Radio Scotland.
  3. BBC - BBC Four Documentaries - Visions of the Future VISIONS OF THE FUTURE Starts Monday 5 November 2007 In this new three-part series, leading theoretical physicist and futurist Dr Michio Kaku explores the cutting edge science of today, tomorrow, and beyond. He argues that humankind is at a turning point in history. In this century, we are going to make the historic transition from the 'Age of Discovery' to the 'Age of Mastery', a period in which we will move from being passive observers of nature to its active choreographers. This will give us not only unparalleled possibilities but also great responsibilities. 1. THE INTELLIGENCE REVOLUTION Monday 5 November 2007 9pm-10pm; rpt 12.35am-1.35am; 3.05am-4.05am (signed); Wednesday 7 November 8pm-9pm In the opening instalment, Kaku explains how artificial intelligence will revolutionise homes, workplaces and lifestyles, and how virtual worlds will become so realistic that they will rival the physical world. Robots with human-level intelligence may finally become a reality, and in the ultimate stage of mastery, we'll even be able to merge our minds with machine intelligence. For the first time on television, see how a severely depressed patient can be turned into a happy person at the push of a button - all thanks to the cross-pollination of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. 2. THE BIOTECH REVOLUTION Monday 12 November 2007 9pm-10pm TBC Genetics and biotechnology promise a future of unprecedented health and longevity: DNA screening could prevent many diseases, gene therapy could cure them and, thanks to lab-grown organs, the human body could be repaired as easily as a car, with spare parts readily available. Ultimately, the ageing process itself could be slowed down or even halted. But what impact will this have on who we are and how we will live? And, with our mastery of the genome, will the human race end up in a world divided by genetic apartheid? 3. THE QUANTUM REVOLUTION Monday 19 November 2007 9pm-10pm TBC The quantum revolution could turn many ideas of science fiction into science fact - from metamaterials with mind-boggling properties like invisibility through limitless quantum energy and room temperature superconductors to Arthur C Clarke's space elevator. Some scientists even forecast that in the latter half of the century everybody will have a personal fabricator that re-arranges molecules to produce everything from almost anything. Yet how will we ultimately use our mastery of matter? Like Samson, will we use our strength to bring down the temple? Or, like Solomon, will we have the wisdom to match our technology? ___________ Should be interesting. I've been into my (reasonably rational!) sci-fi lately and have always been into genetics for a bit of light reading, so this sounds right up my street. I've heard of the pleasant looking Dr Kaku before and have seen a few of his videos online, itll be interesting to hear his thoughts on our ability to handle powerful technology responsibly. In the past he's spoken about our different applications of military and medical technology, how the applications of both have progressed through the years with very different positive/negative affects on the human race! It'll be worth a watch if anybodys around at the time
  4. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ing/7078716.stm Reading players will subsidise the trip for fans visiting Manchester City on 24 November - partly because of the club's inconsistent start to the season. The Royals squad, currently 12th in the Premier League, have donated ?5,000 to supporters heading to Eastlands. Reading captain Graeme Murty told BBC Sport: "We know that at the moment we are massively inconsistent. "It's not easy to justify spending so much money to watch us perform and this is giving something back to the fans." Steve Coppell's side have endured a difficult beginning to their second season in the top flight and following their 3-1 defeat at Fulham on Saturday are only five points clear of the relegation zone. "I would be lying if I said that the poor start didn't enter certain people's thinking," said Murty, who is in his 10th season at the Berkshire club. "It can't be good going to places like Fratton Park and coming out after a 7-4 loss wearing a Reading shirt. "But more than that there has been a growing realisation among the players of how expensive it is, especially for parents who bring their kids to a game." Reading froze their season-ticket prices for the 2007-08 campaign yet they have to date seen attendances fall slightly. They now intend to recognise those who follow them around the country. The first 350 fans who book the journey on the official supporters' trust coaches will pay ?5 for their travel instead of the normal ?20. The move comes after a week in which the Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe claimed sky-high wages and ticket prices in top-flight football are alienating fans. "Ordinary working people who want to see Manchester United face being priced out," said Sutcliffe. "There is a danger that there will be a move away from the game and we don't want to be in a position where people are alienated." Murty pointed out that the subsidisation of travel may not become a regular offering but added: "We decided that it would be a nice gesture if we could get behind the fans the way they get behind us and try to alleviate that financial burden. "The players had the ultimate say-so over whether we did it or not. It's not something we've been ordered to do, it's something that as a group of people we felt was right. "We feel, not guilty, but that we a have a little bit of responsibility towards that cost. I'm not saying it's getting beyond a joke, the level of cost, but it certainly is almost taking the game away from its roots. "If that eventuality ever comes to pass then football is going to be the only loser. If you take the game away from the common person in the street then football is going to go downhill from there on."
  5. ""As far as I can tell the only things that work are to either dial in to a UK service provider or to have someone `shoutcast`from the UK. The first is expensive, the second chews up so much bandwidth that the shoutcaster will soon get a message from their ISP !"" How much bandwidth you talking here? My other line through smallworld (I think theyre called!) has a transfer rate of upto 30MB a second, it only gets used for newsgroups and other downloads, I'm sure something could be set up through that. I've had it at 22mb a second for over 24 hours, so I doubt theyd be calling me on a Saturday afternoon about a poxy 2 hour BBC stream.
  6. Think it was going to be 4,000 seats, with the wee side stand about the size of countys west stand (1,200ish), which would make it much bigger than all of our current stands.
  7. You know fine there must be an easy way round it! Do a search of all the bigger SPL forums for info, like followfollow.com or hibs.net ? Google the problem, bet theres thousands of people in the same position.
  8. Relax :017: It's not liked hes been dropped off the bridge. We will lose tomorrow, if Barry wants to spend the day feeding ducks or going shopping in Tescos then he might aswell.
  9. All tongue in cheek I'm afraid, the inclusion of (s) at the end of the word corridor was perhaps too subtle, I couldve used the horrific :tic01: button. No black magic from me this time, I strictly deal in facts and honesty these days, no conspiracy's to be found here, I'm a scientist dont you know. I never approach a football game without a lab coat on, which means that when I see hysteria, confusion and inability bottled up in a blue n'red striped test tube (apply heat) I see whats really going on, the whole peep show is going tits up...slowly.!
  10. I was reading about cats today again, apparently if it was big enough it would try to kill me :015: Unlucky puttycat, this monkey has 2 million years of evolution on you :sillywave: I've enjoyed the cat aswell if I'm honest, its not as emotional as my mums dog or as fun as the wild animals around here but its definitely suits the windowsill on a pishin doon afternoon. Not sure if I could handle another one, even though I know how to work it now, just seems to leave alot of hair around and freak me out by rubbing itself REALLY BLOODY HARD against sharp bits of furniture. Thanks for all the help from the forum this week, its been great, I knew I'd be able to count on you for almost no support whatsoever. Well wishing is fine, but practically keeping puttycat alive was all down to trial and error. As for outing the ***'s amongst us mee, I wouldnt worry about them, its purely ancient genetics. As above about the cat killing me, the basis for their hatred is down to some basic primeval fear, they just see the cat and think 'oh shyte, lions!', though most tabbys arent deadly predators these days... Running a lion over a few hundred years ago wouldve have been such a bad move, had you had a car to begin with.
  11. Remember those pictures well, at the time I remember them looking sh1te. Not so sure now!
  12. And its those who watched us lose 4-1 to Obredeen who are being dramatic :023: I'm glad youve had your say and and put Mee and the rest of the women in their place, it was a good read and for many will be a great remedy to alot of the crap thats been posted on here recently. All said, it cant be denied that theres a lot going on within the first team squad, management and the corridor(s) of power to suggest that things could slowly be going tits up at ICT.
  13. tm4tj, we're all entitled to have our say. The sad part of your 'get things in perspective' post is that people moaning about everything on your list is totally valid. Maybe not as an over reaction to losing to Aberdeen but we all pay our money and should expect a reasonable level of professionalism in return, at all levels. Is it too easy to say that the current mess is all down to Chalrie Christie and Bennet?
  14. Would rather see Hastings at CB and McBain cover on the left. Watt news on What? Cant we get him involved
  15. Those were the days... I remember there only being about 10 people using the site unless we were playing Livi, then it was a free for all. I mustve been about 17/18 when I first started using it. Loads of old names gone, but then didnt alot of the now lurkers fall out with each other? :029:
  16. The Kit Kat and myself are getting on alright, he knows to stay away form the computer and I know when to feed him, just 2 more days to go and the little ferret can scuttle off to mummy in one piece. Job almost done.
  17. Yep, no Wyness :003: He definitely has his place in the team but only if the 9 players behind him can get their act sorted, aslong as we're shipping goals we need Bayne and Black on song to take pressure off. As I;ve said elsewhere, fans on this site need to stop looking at team selection on an individual to individual basis, the team I'd play to accommodate Wyness would be. Zibi Roscoe - McGuire - Munro - Hastings Cowie - Black - McBain Wilson - Wyness - Marius If youre putting a side on the park one man at a time then obviously the whole thing will never click. Just look at tonight with Duncan and McBain in the middle of the park :017: Both could have a case argued for there inclusion there but not together (and not with Cowie on the left, it might work if it was Wilson and they was interchangeable with McBain).
  18. for rangers, or any game... id go Zibi Rocoe - Munro - McGuire - Hastings Cowie - Black - Rankin - Morgan Nicolae - Bayne
  19. Get Duncan off for Black we've got a team
  20. What the **** kind of midfield are we playing. Cowie on the left? Duncan and McBain in the middle. Nevermind the mistakes we lost it with the line up, thought Rankin and Morgan would get a shout, no Proc either
  21. The place is excellent when its that quiet. Shame never had some time post match.
  22. Agree with Scotty, it was bad timing, I've only ever seen him play a game and half for us (thanks to Crossmyloaf). I think we have better options considering Rankin, Morgan and Hart cant get near the first team, also Zanders a better player in Markus's position. An extension of 6 months wouldnt be a bad move should he prove his fitness, but he may have to go elsewhere.
  23. Cat Watch 2007 - Day 3... The cats fine Corrie :015: Been giving it two tins of food a day and its been leaving a little bit each time. I've cleaned its box out and it seems pretty happy so I mustve done it right. Today its trying to use the internet alot, which is a bit annoying. I've tried having the computer on my lap and using the desktop in the other room but it keeps being nosey, it wont **** off. I've been playing poker all day, so I've mostly been eating at the computer, I'm worried I';m going to catch a disease of some kind from the thing. Apparently ringworms a nasty one you can get from cats but theres loads, I've no idea what this animals history is! It's not going to let me bath it is it...? Garden hose? At least itd be clean and probably wouldnt bother me when I'm on the computer again I'll have a full match report later once its attempted...
  24. Would say its a bit harsh this guy was put on the list, you would assume that mounting a bike wouldnt necessarily make you a risk to human? Does showing sympathy look a bit dodgy :015: Honest the cats safe!
  25. I've always seen him as a direct replacement for Barry Wilson. I also believe that Wood and Mcallister will be playing regularly together in the in the first team before the decades out.
