  3. I am updating from the Glassie Farm bunkhouse in Aberfeldy. Some of you will have already heard (or seen via twitter/facebook updates) that this years End to End effort has failed. However we are in no way calling this a complete and utter failure. Every marcher made the first stage to Slochd without problems on Wednesday night. After just 2 hours sleep, every marcher was on the road (05:30) to set off on the planned 57 mile stage to Keltneyburn (near Kenmore). Chumba was the first to climb aboard the support v-Hickle with a persistant foot injury and fatigue, with BA and Gringo next to baord with pulled muscle's and tiredness. That left CapitalCaley, Dunco, Yompa and GringoJnr (that's me) to carry on. The planned schedlue was kept to all the way, and we made Tromie Bridge bang on time at 12noon yesterday. With a 21 mile completely off-road stage aghead, CC and Dunco boarded the bus, leaving Yompa and GJ as the only troops left on the End-to-End. Glen Tromie, usually a favorite stage for most Highland Marchers, was an absolute nightmare. We suffered heavy rain showers, funnelling winds that would vertually stop us in our tracks or blow us over, and all the river crossings were relatively full and fast flowing. After the final river crossing, there was 5 miles to go until the end of Tromie at Dalnacardoch Lodge. It was over these final miles that much discussion was had between Yompa and GJ. I'll add here that these two had walked every mile of every Highland March since it's formation in 2003. Taking into account that there would still be 15 miles, complete with 3 hard hill climbs to get us to the end of the day, we decided to called it a day with dignity. This Highland March, we knew the route in the time scale was going to be very tough, and on paper it looked almost do-able. But physically and mentally, this was impossible. None of us cam say we didn't give 100% effort, and we're going to carry on for the game v Hamilton. Only now it'll involve a bit more enjoyment and a relaxed approach to the final stages.
  4. Think its Highland March but link is on HM web site...hope that helps.

  7. There will be 2 'teams' this year. Team Yompa will be attempting the whole distance as one (i.e. each individual in the team will plan to complete the whole distance), whilst Team Gringo will be breaking the route into relay stages to ensure other members of their team gets adequate rest, and the route is completed as a group. Overall, we are all a team, and both TY and TG will work as one to make sure everyone does the absolute best we can do. There are 7 of us taking part in this challenge, and it really will test us to both our mental and physical limits. Scotty: I've got twitter set up on my mobile, and it's linked to facebook to update them both simultaniously. If you are able to link it on CTO too, that'd be excellent... not sure how it's done mind!
  8. ONE DAY TO GO and none of us can wait. Our Support Driver is safely in Ayrshire and will travel North with Yompa tomorrow. Gringo is currently on his final train for Inverness after leaving Coventry earlier this morning. All the troops will be at the stadium in good enough time for kick off, and will be setting off as soon as the final whistle goes tomorrow night. The aferomentioned route is the plan we are looking at. It's one hell of a challenge, but one we are all waiting to get on with - we're like kids at christmas. There will be a collection at the stadium tomorrow for the new Club Link for Additional Needs (CLAN) Supporters tomorrow pre-match. This is a fantastic cause that hopes to improve matchday experiences for our disabled fanbase, and it's great that they get to benefit off the back of Highland March. Please donate generously If you haven't already done so, and you have a facebook and/or twitter account, there will be regular updates on these services throughout HM9. Highland March Facebook Link Finally I'd like to thank everyone that has offered their support and words of encouragement already for this years event, and we'll see you all in Hamilton

  11. I'd rather not field him purely because a few teams have had deductions in points for feilding 'illegiable players'. RD would now fall into that category, and a points deduction would be unfair on this seasons' efforts. I didnt see Mair grab Russel's throat, but there were two players on him and there was a rash challenge from Mair. As Duncan relatliated verbally, he grabbed mairs arm and as mair came into duncans chest, mair fell down to the deck. it was then the linesman put his flag up.
  12. I was given a text regarding the red card saying it's a 3-game ban. Not too sure of why or even if it's true, but if it is then it surely was his last game for us. My view was that we should have been given the decision considering duncan was fouled. He simply stuck his chest our and down Mair went. Absolute theatrics IMO (Highlights will be interesting). Very harsh to be sent off - it was the standside linesman that flagged the incident and informed the referee. poor show!

    Referee

The ref seemed to have an ok game, but missed/gave a few soft ones. If Brown's penalty claim was turned down, then he surely sould have been booked for diving, which would have meant a second booking and ultimately a sending off. I'm not going to complain though, aside from the aforementioned foreign officials earlier in the season, I thought they were decent

  15. For those interested in this, Easyjet have flights from Inverness to Bristol on a daily basis. Currently, you can fly down on Monday 11th for ?38 (dep 13:55, arr: 15:15) and fly back on Tuesday 13th for ?28 (dep 12:05, arr 13:30) The train costs ?15 each way from Bristol Temple Meads to Yeovil Pen Mill station, and there is a shuttle bus beween the airport and BTM. I'm sure a bus or taxi wouldnt cost too much to get to Yeovil's ground. Just putting it our there is all...

  19. Except it doesn't even say that! You've got to read between the lines to draw that conclusion. am I missing something?
  20. I dont think the quality of the statement has any impact on the point that is being made tbh. What it says simply confirms 4 of our most loyal and somewhat 'legendary' playing staff will not be plying their trade at TCS next season. The only surprise for me is Munro. I though that another year extention would be on the table at least. Roy, an ICT legend and true gent, has not seen any action in ICT colours for some time, and I think his loan out to Brechin was the first true sign he'd be leaving at the seasons end. Golly too has lacked game time this season, and with Gillet doing well since coming back from injury, he and shinnie may be all the left-back coverage we need? Russell Duncan, who many know I have never rated, had his best season for us last term in my opinion. And a cracker it was too. Perhaps he'd found his level and hasn't been able to match those performances this year? He said himself that he thought he would be the player to be dropped next after any poor performance... a self-reflection on his own performances, or a 'face dont fit' scenario. I am sure only Terry, Mo and Russel know that? Either way, I'd like to personally thank every single one of them for their loyalty towards the club i love, and wish every single one of them all the best for the future. Maybe Dunfirmline and Hamilton will come a knocking after their possible summer clear-outs?

  25. THE ROUTE We appear to have our route finally sorted for the forthcoming Highland March, and the re-introduction of the 'teams' format. Setting off from TCS after our final home game of the season, the route takes us approximately 20 miles to the Slochd Summit, where we aim to aquire some rest (by some, i mean a couple of hour maximum ) It'll be early doors on Thursday morning as we aim to cover nearly 57 miles to Keltneyburn, just ourside Kenmore - a route that will take us over the mountains to Kincraig and along that Highland March favorite, The Pass of Glen Tromie. After a few hours shut-eye (again only a couple of hours) we'll be heading out over Sheriffmuir toward Stirling for another 60-mile day, which should in turn leave us with 20 miles to finish before Kick-off against Hamilton. Those in Team Yompa will be aiming for a complete end-to-end, using only the rest-stops allocated between stages. Team Gringo will be taking the route in a relay format, where a different member of the team will walk for a designated time, before swapping with someone else in the team to get rest. FACEBOOK / TWITTER Although we have the main website (www.highlandmarch.co.uk) we now have a facebook page and twitter account, to allow us more regular updates during the event.
