  1. How about a straight swap for Johnny Hayes?
  2. Not all of the blame for dodgy decision making can be apportioned to referees. It's the guys above them who call the shots. Case in point, Willie Collum takes pelters from fans for his draconian use of cards, but the assessors routinely reward him with big domestic games and international call ups, which suggests he's carrying out their instructions to a tee.
  3. Our most consistent, reliable performer has been Danny Williams IMO. No-one works harder. An unsung hero IMO. Should be the first name on the team sheet.
  4. You know you're living in strange times when Inverness literally play like Man Utd - and get booed off the park. Who'd have predicted that 3 years ago?
  5. The whole point of the possession game is to physically and mentally tire your opponents as they're pulled from pillar to post trying to win the ball back. It doesn't work if the opposition sit back and let you knock it around in front of them. Particks defensive players won't have a much easier afternoon than they did today. We didn't stretch them at all. To quote one of the tactical masterminds of 'tiki taka', Johan Cruyff, "When you get the ball, you make the pitch big. When you lose the ball, you make the pitch small." We're doing the opposite! When we start a move everyone drops deep and runs back towards the man in possession. Our shape is too compact and narrow. There's a chronic lack of space, movement or options for the man on the ball. Little wonder our moves go nowhere and precious few chances are created. At times today our half was more congested than the proverbial 'Sauchiehall Street on a Saturday night'. Hardly a recipe for free flowing football or individual flair. The players are grafting hard but the gameplan isn't working. All in all a dreadful game of football.
  6. Forgot to add, you only need to look at our previous manager with his 2 artificial knees to see the folly of being too brave for your own good.
  7. With the speed and intensity of the modern game, 'playing through injuries' is no longer an option. It's never a good idea to ignore medical advice in any case. Players aren't cogs or gears to be used, burned out and cast aside. They have their futures to think about, football is their bread and butter. Why risk shortening your career to prove some kind of macho point playing through the pain barrier? Not a good day at the office for Yogi.
  8. I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick when they lament our seemingly excessive passages of 'safe' passing in our own half. The problem wasn't a lack of ambition from the likes of Tansey when they picked up possession. The problem was a lack of movement in front of them. Not sure whether it's down to tactics or fatigue, but the forward players seem to be sticking rigidly to their positions for the most part. If they were any more static they'd have balloons sticking to them. The big exception was Draper who drifted into pockets of space all evening, at times he was an anchorman, at times he was a winger, at times he was running in behind. That's the kind of dynamic movement we've been lacking. Mutombo was very good as an outside left, looks like we've found his best position. Can see him getting a run there. Not a good night for Polworth, think it might be time to rest him. Haven't heard the pundits using the 'burn out' cliché in relation to young players recently, but something to be mindful of. Foran's cameo was encouraging. Hopefully his injury woes are finally over. Stirling looked much better than their league position suggests. Particularly their front 2, both of whom I would have ahead of Brian Graham.
  9. Has there ever been an SPL campaign as competitive and unpredictable as this? Armageddon indeed.
  10. Lopez leaves... our unbeaten run ends. Coincidence?
  11. Rumour doing the rounds that legendary former ICT left back Charlie Taylor is being linked with several Premiership clubs including MANCHESTER UNITED. Fond memories of his penalty winning dive in a crucial Highland derby victory.
  12. Hard to choose between the 2. Trial by combat I guess.
  13. Esson can play for another 5 years. He's still a very capable deputy. It's common for goalkeepers to play up to 40 these days, even at the highest level. Brad Friedel played for Spurs at 43! There's no point in keeping 2 top class full-time goalies on the books. You can only have one on the park so you're never getting value for money. It makes much more sense to have a guy like Esson on the bench who's doubling up and earning his money as a coach.
  14. Harsh words Renegade. The man did his best, but it just didn't work out. He never regained his place after a faltering start where he was clearly not match fit. I feel he's been scapegoated somewhat for the teams collective poor start to the season. Sad news for him and his young family having uprooted themselves from Spain to move here. As the pundits would say 'there's definitely a player in there somewhere.' We saw flashes of it, but sadly not enough. I was hoping to see him get another run out at some point at TCS to redeem himself, but sadly it never materialised. Hope he gives us a decent reference and his experience doesn't deter other prospective Spanish signings. He'll always have his 2 Europa appearances and goal at Celtic Park to look back on.
  15. Given that Stirling were always going to set out their stall to frustrate us our starting lineup looked far too defensive. A back 4 with Wedderburn, Drapes and Tansey in front, 3 holding midfielders for a game of this nature is bonkers. PS surprising to see Craig Beattie sitting on the bench for a League 2 side! Why do so many Scottish international strikers fall off a cliff so young? Another one for the list. The career trajectories of Riordan, O'Conner and Beattie sum up why the national team is in the doldrums. A criminal waste of talent and unfulfilled potential. Depressing stuff!
  16. They'd probably say nice things about each other all the time. "Do you like the new tattoo mate?" "Nah.... I loooove it!" (did you mean complement? ) We haven't made a signing this big since... Duncan Shearer!
  17. I reckon there could be something to that story possibly relating to Celtic recalling Christie early. Perhaps there was a gentleman's agreement between the managers that he would stay at Inverness till the end of the season, but Celtic's abysmal form has panicked them to expedite his arrival. The most logical outcome would be to send us someone else in his place. Stokes being the most obvious choice.
  18. Would be a very short sighted decision on the board's part if true. Storey's goals could potentially be the difference between us finishing in the top 4 or languishing in the bottom 6. The differential prize money would be a massive net loss over the money saved on wages. That's before you even take into account the potential money to be made from another deep run in the Scottish Cup. To cap it all off, given his age and potential, if we got him signed up on a 2 or 3 year deal we could easily land a large 6 figure transfer fee for him in the future. If he's available and wants to sign, get him signed up ASAP. This is an absolute no brainer.
  19. Can see us retaining the Scottish Cup defeating Celtic 3-2 in the Final after Steven McLean awards a controversial offside winner for Inverness in injury time scored by Wedderburn. The ensuing Sun headline 'Nat King Goal'. David Raven will make a deep run on Britain's got talent, leading to a solo album which will break into the top 10. He'll then face an agonizing decision as Yogi insists he abandon his music career and focus 100% on football, as he did to Scott Arfield at Falkirk. Richie Foran will sign a new 5 year contract. Miles Story will break into the England squad and start dating Katie Price.
  20. Vincent MOTM for me also. The old boy behind me who'd had a few too many drams probably went for Raven as he seemed to think he and Vincent were the same person. Easy mistake to make I guess. Some engine Dave the Rave has - playing right back and centre forward at the same time. What a player.
  21. Great performance. Would go as far as to say on todays showing there isn't a single County player who would get into our first 11 bar perhaps Jackson Irvine. Pleased to see the manager shake things up tactically and abandon our usual possession game for a more direct approach better suited to a derby game. It was almost as if we carried on where we left off from the League Cup meeting in that respect - the same tactical switch turned the game in our favour that evening. Today was a textbook example of 'defending from the front'. Story and Vincent ran their socks off. Their left back could barely even get within 20 yards of the halfway line before being closed down by Polworth. Gardyne was shut down completely by Wedderburn and Tremarco doubling up, so much so that McIntyre switched him to the left to little effect. When we won the ball we got it forward FAST and had the County in full panic mode. Tanseys long passing was top drawer. Great energy from our midfield constantly getting forward to support the front 2 who held the ball up superbly. In the end it could have been 4 or 5, we were completely dominant. On current form only a matter of time before we leapfrog this lot and Saints IMO. Great start to 2016!
  22. Lol at the Beeb using digital zoom to create the illusion of multiple camera angles for their slow motion replays.
  23. Chuffed to see the result, even more so when I read the story. What a finish. Don't think many teams will fancy playing Inverness on current form.
  24. Jim Calder was more than just a cult hero. He was a terrific goalkeeper who would have held his own in the SPL. ICT fans didn't even get to see him in his prime. Let's not forget he was already 34 at the time of the merger but stayed with the club for 8 more years. When he won man of the match in our famous 1-3 Scottish Cup victory at Celtic Park he was 40 years old and earning £15 a week.
