  1. I'm hearing he was an U-15 keeper who has been brought through to the U-20 squad for this season. Must have something if Butcher's giving him a start.
  2. Another Canadian International comes through the ICT ranks
  3. Richie figured the car may be illegaly parked and was trying to see where the yellow lines were.
  4. My only input to Europe is that I'd like to see a referendum on whether we should stay or leave. It was a good idea when it was European Economic Congress but it has evolved into a law making society. Dont get me wrong, there are many good things that have come out of it but also many bad. Fisheries policy being one of the latter. I despair though at the lack of true debate, especially from the BetterTogether brigade. I'm becoming convinced that they are helping promote independence. Example linked here http://newsnetscotland.com/index.php/scottish-politics/7765-snp-demand-darling-withdraw-ridiculous-oil-claim
  5. Totally disagree with you there Dougal but thats your opinion. Yngwie.........Apologies....substitute English for London
  6. There is no anti Laurence baton. You need to realise though that many of us on here are not as young as you seem to think and we do have a lot of years of life experiences. You have a very bad habit of talking down to people because you think you are always right. Incidently I also trained at Moreton as well as Montrose and Teeside and its not the number of fires you tackle that matter. Its the nature of the fire and the way its dealt with. Try three days fighting a major refinery blaze. Try fighting a blaze offshore where theres nowhere to retreat to. I also think you'd find that the modern station has a totally different command regime and general ethos to what you were used to.
  7. Can't comment on the incident but whats the problem with a 33 year old having a night out with his colleagues. I'm 56 and I do it. Saturday night was probably the last chance they'll all get for a good night out before the season start.
  8. There are many who have already decided which way they lean. There are many undecideds who will be swayed by debate. There are many who dont care one way or the other and will likely not even vote. (Perhaps we should follow the Australian rules on voting but thats another subject) At the end of the day a decision will be made and it will be made by the starchiefs of the country. Those people who are undecided at the moment and debating all aspects of the subject. These are the ones who will turn the table. I am a nationalist and I believe our country can survive and prosper as an independant nation. I dont, however, go into this with blinkers on. I look at the real world, not the one the politician sees. I see the re-generation of Dundee. I see the abolishment of tolls. I see the building of new bridges. The regeneration of Glasgow through the Commonwealth games. I look forward to the dualling of the A9 and A96. I enjoy the benefits af free eye tests and prescriptions. I take heart in the fact that unemployment in Scotland is below that of England. I take pride in our health service north of the border. Having three children go through university I have benefited from free education. All that is an example of the things that have affected me. Things that come about within the budget of a devolved Scottish Government. How much more could we benefit from having total control of our own destiny. What amazes me in this whole debate is some of the reasons I've heard for and against. For: I'm SNP. I hate the English. My dads SNP etc. Against I hate the SNP. I hate Alex Salmond. I'm a Royalist. I'm a Protestant Unionist etc. People, if any of those are your true reasons for voting one way or the other then you deserve what you may not like. Finally, for those yet to be educated, this country of ours has existed for thousands of years but has been under English rule for only 306. Prior to 1707 England, Norway and even the Romans tried and failed to impose their rule on Scotland. We will be free once again.
  9. The Scottish Governments 80% share will come from within our budget. It will come from the the rebate we get from subsidising England and will not amount to anywhere near the 11 billion that the treasury managed to find, from outside the budget for England, to pay for the olympics. The overspend for the Olympics was helped by large funding from lottery whereas the Commonwealth games will not be asking for any lottery money. The lottery fund have, however, pledged £9.3 million to help sports clubs, and to promote sport for all, across the country in the run up to and beyond the games.
  10. Within speed limit: Inverness to Perth 110 mls 2 hrs Perth to Arbroath 45 mls less than an hour at that time of night. Dundee traffick should be fairly light and once you get by Monifeith its fast dual carraigeway to Arbroath. The AA, however, think it should take 3h 29m. Take a risk and its anyones guess.
  11. Or to thank them for making the purchase in the first place.
  12. Amazing the things you learn on CTO. I never ever realised Preston was a dockyard town till now. I know it has a Marina but never thought that was once docks.
  13. What is a glamour friendly? Wouldn't call a Man U XI one cos its unlikely that any of first team squad will be there. Was a Liverpool XI with players we'd never heard of before or since a glamour friendly?
  14. UK treasury subsidise Olympic games to the tune of some £11 billion. UK treasury subsidise Commonwealth games to tune of £0. Thats how much they think of us.
  15. The bowlers in my team were panicking before my innings that we didn't have enough runs to defend. Because our last wicket stand upped the total to over 70, and it was a good bowling surface , they knew they had a chance to win the game. TI am a qualified umpire I actually went to umpire the game, but because Lancashire F.B. were a man short, I was asked to play, and another umpire was found from the Blackpool club. Otherwise I was too old to play. I was a Station Officer and all the other players were Fireman rank, a bit embarrassing to be hugged by one of my own men. The sad thing about my memory of this match that the lad at the other end sadly died a few days after the game from a heart attack. He had not reached his 36th birthday He was a Retained Sub Officer like me making up the numbers., You wonder Laurence why people like me have a go at you from time to time well that highlighted statement is one of the reasons. Here you are involved in a team sport with other team players and yet you still see yourself as a Station Officer and them as lower ranks. That us and then mentality and superior / subordinate attitude is exactly what has destroyed this once great Britian. As for cricket as a spectator sport......give me 220:20 any day You have no idea - The Fire Service is a command situation. The officer is not a manager but a commander his orders are to be followed to the letter without question It's not about being popular, that would make mistakes more likely. If your house is on fire and your family are trapped it is down to the men following orders. To make sure nothing is left to chance. The Fire Service is not a debating society it is about doing what you are told, and doing it promptly and quickly. Think your missing my point Laurence. First of you make the statement that I have no idea without knowing anything about me. To put you in the picture I was a retained fireman in Fort William many years ago. I was a fireman / emergency response operative at the Grangemouth petrochemical complex and I was a Fire Team Leader offshore in the North Sea. We done all the training that the fire service do plus some very specialist training due to the nature of our industry. Oh! and we put out some fires too. But to get back to the point Laurence. There is protocol to follow on duty but that should not be a consideration when participating in a team sport outside of work.
  16. Just to correct a small point in your post Laurence, and without meaning to seem personal, as you may think, Scottish fans, and I was one, did not riot at Wembley. The definition of 'riot' is: a violent disturbance. Scotland won the game. The fans invaded the pitch at the final whistle and in the euphoria a set of goalposts got broken and some turf found its way into peoples pockets. There was no violence and no intent to harm or maime. Just a few thousand happy fans celebrating a great win.
  17. What age group is this?
  18. You wonder Laurence why people like me have a go at you from time to time well that highlighted statement is one of the reasons. 19. No, probably a helluva lot more. From the Independant in 2008 when the ECB were trying to play down 20:20. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/cricket/salary-leak-places-ecb-on-back-foot-793618.html
  20. Over the past while I've heard and read about a number of reasons why we should stay together. All, so far, have been shot down in flames, not by the SNP or the Scottish people, but by the very people being employed to prove the contrary. The BetterTogether campaign has shown themselves to be very stupid people who bring about very stupid arguements but hey ho what do we expect. The latest now is that they are going to spy on and analyse every one of us so they can slot us into tribes. from that they will target the weak and the vulnerable to vote no. Do they not realise that tribalism (Clanism) died a death in Scotland around 500 years ago. My conclusion thus far. THE CONSERVATIVES DO NOT WANT US TO BREAK AWAY FROM ENGLAND FOR TWO REASONS. 1. WE ARE THE VERY LAST OF THE OLD EMPIRE THAT THEY CAN CONTROL. 2. THEY ARE SH!T SCARED OF BEING AN INDEPENDANT COUNTRY.
  21. Those items may not be online but they do have them in shop
  22. First thing.....to refer this as a bye is not quite what it is. Teams enter this competition at the stage merited by thier league position at end of previous season. Thats not a bye. I dont recall a situation ever where a defending team came into a competition at a later stage than that merited by league position though maybe it has happened in past. Its certainly not mentioned in the rules of the competition. Format:- Round 1 - 30 teams from football league. (If one of those teams has qualified for Europe then their place will be taken by last team in SPL) Round 2 - 15 winning teams from above + bottom seven from SPL (Positions 6 - 12 unless situation above occurs which would then be 5 - 12) Round 3 - 11 winning teams from above + remainder of SPL The situation has not occurred where a team lower than top five of SPL qualifies for Europe so format is straight forward based on league position.
  23. A short corner can cause a defense to panic and lose shape allowing for the whipped cross into the box to someone who's now unmarked. Short corners allow retaining possession whereas the long corner can lose you that. Its all about what feels right at the time. I wouldn't knock either method because both can result in a goal if executed well. I would also re-iterate what others have said in that pre-season friendlies are all about chopping and changing, experimenting etc and not about entertaining fans.
  24. To me success has to be to go that little bit better than last season and I feel very confident we can. That success may just be one point more than last season. One win more, one loss less, one step further in cup games, one goal more, one lost goal less. That little bit better shows success.
