  5. Here I go again .. a bottle of vodka costs 3.4 gbp here and we get our more than fair share of drunks of all ages and sex. But alcoholism is a real problem and there is a great back street business selling illegal vodka . I was told its almost pure alcohol. But these nutters buy it at less than 2gbp a bottle Also 4 people were found dead in the snow last week all alcohol related deaths and we aint got a Wetherspoons!!!!
  6. I agree with your Latvian friend, mind u I hate ice hockey, more than basketball, BUT I do enjoy watching the Latvian Ladies Basketball team Look out for their calendar!! better than Calendar Girls !!!
  7. Well here I go again!! Football shuts down over here till the end of March, so Nauris would not be playing over here , even if he went back.. point to note. We have a huge indoor sports complex here, with amongst other things a full sized artifical pitch for us footy fanatics and it costs 35gbp for 90 minutes ( divide it in half for each team and it ain't much)and you have changing facilities, room for spectators, and we play all winter and still manage to be bottom!! so far in the league , but we might/ may, if we can afford it, get some has beens to play for us!!! to see out there twilight years!!!
  8. Am I Hissed, for once I agree with Alex... Here in my chosen haven .. Football stops in November The pitches are not safe, well with three ft of snow??? Would it not be wonderful that the powers that be, get together? think, and say miss out he winter months. We all are fans , and we know an injury in Winter is a killer, so why do the SFA persist??
  9. Boring day on the Rig Alex,, rather verbose, per you!! Slovan Godam vernucular Russian = Happy New Year
  10. Just had to be first to wish you all a GUID NEW YEAR, am working then so thought I'd get in first, Hope all the expats made it home in the bad weather
  11. Grammar / spelling minus points says it all really, most on his home site cannot even read!!
  12. Yup he's good! but lined up elsewhere now!!
  13. My friend at Skonto says Naurius, is the way you spell/ say it, unless you are using the old way of saying / spelling the Latvian language So you know Pavels well, I too know the big guy, and Dundee did not come into our conversation, rather that is a nice Bolnde over there, he never changes
  14. Charles Dougie D has completely lost me on most of his threads, methinks a slight complex, on the ones i did understand
  15. At the risk of boring everyone, we have over 4 feet of snow in Latvia, the main roads are gritted every day and small tractors clear the side roads Most apartments employ people to look after the houses ie gardens, and in the winter, the people and they are mostly, female, pensioners, clear the snow and pavements of their respective apartments. I left for work yesterday and at 4am the old lady ( babushka) was up clearing the snow No regional council just common sense!!!
  16. Well here we go again those for and those against.. Naurius was a young untried player when he signed for ICT on Pavels advice. He is in a different league and still finding his feet, and from all reports getting better. To all those armchair pundits, give him TIME!! he likes Scotland, likes Invss, and enjoys playing for ICT, surely that is enough, give the guy a break!!!
  17. I'd just like to wish all of you, A Merry Christmas and a Guid New Year, I have enjoyed the last year on this, appreciate the craic [size="4"]!. To Scotty Thank you for the site 2. To Caley D thank you for you patience again and again hearing the same old craic 3. Georgious, You make me Laugh for a Crab *at good!! Roll on retirement 4. Renegade ,, love your banter Great!! ...upset anyone today!! or waiting too 5, Scarlet Pimple, you have more snow than I do in Latvia and I am grounded, planes all over the place 6. CB for being CB, ever the schoolteacher, corrects my spelling errors, ever flown a 737 500 CB??? could u correct **** ups?? 7. Lastly Alex stuck on a Rig ever sober and always the voice of reason till Perth beckons and the missives get Foggy Latviaman
  18. Mrs L like me works for an airline, her christmas wish was, can we both be together for two days!! spoke to the dispatcher, one bottle of Smirnoff.. sorted. I always found that simple pressys worked better
  19. Sorry to be boring, but 3 foot, here, but life goes on, they are used to it here!
  20. I know you all are questionable about Latvians, but ask Nauris about Stas who is a free agent an under 21 international, centre back.. I have told ICT about him, response, nil, so now he is lined up with another side another one lost!!!
  21. Well I made the 6th in IHS, unfortunately, did not get a distinguished career, in the polis, However, did get/ make Uni got a degree , joined the Fleet Air Arm , learned to fly , served in the Falklands and after that became a commercial pilot and life is good, although I live abroad. But never been stuck in a Rut!! Dougie D dinna take the *iss out of those in a your idea of a perceived rut, they have there own comfort zone albeit small To all those stuck in the snow , can I wish you a Merry Christmas 1. To Scotty for doing what you do!! 2. To Caley D for being the voice of reason no matter how often he repeats himself 3. To Cb for correcting my spelling errors, habits die hard!! 4. Georgious never thought a Crab *at would make me smile u do 5. Finally to all who post on the site, thank you for making an expat feel near home
  22. Well here is the Latvian expat with his three penny worth, or should that be Lats .. the way the economy here is going.. I worked for BA long haul for many years, my ex. and I emphasise ex, was a purser, we were, on different schedules, not allowed to fly together. 1. Cabin crew on long haul are on good perks, trust me!! Good o'night/ jet lag hotels .She was on 51K plus 2. Free drinks on board, so where do they all go??? Flight crew carry big bags and customs smile!! Think on it, (Unite) 3. Remember the purser is in charge, I hated minatures!!! I belonged to BALPA, from the news there was a negotiated early retirement, for some pilots with an educated union. I believe Unison manipulated the cabin crew, I did try when I was stuck in Moscow to find the Len, (Spokesman) guy on wikepedia, but no such luck So now you in the UK are coming to a halt re' the weather, did euro star actually DIE?? Over here, weather is not a real problem, (Yes we have snow) we are not allowed to drive to work.. rather a crew bus picks us up. We always have two crews here, on standby in the airport... so if we have a plane we can fly, mind you the a/c I was due to fly yesterday was stuck at Gatwick, we go.if we have a plane!!but Gatwick cannot cope with snow, so I waited and waited and then flight cancelled So the weather here at the moment is ****, All I can say is the reception from the nations 's broadcaster football wise, is poor, certain countries banned, ME!! in Particular AS for nationalising B A ??? not an option. my thought We are doing the tree at home , well Mrs Lat is!! To everyone on this site, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I have really enjoyed the banter, the spelling errors pointed out by CB, Scotty sorting out my Faux Paux, and Caley d being Caley D Latviaman
  23. When I was last home , in what I call the market I remembered a music shop there. It was run by an ex Navy man Captain Henderson they sold records in the back and various musical instruments in the front, it is now a charity shop Does anyone remember him or am I losing it!!! As an aside: why does the UK fall apart at 6 cms of snow, my flight to Gatwick cancelled as , though they knew snow was forecast they didn't clear the runways. We have snow here all the time , they are prepared for it, but the South!!!
