Kilmarnock 1-1 Inverness CT- SPL

KILMARNOCK 1-1 ICT
Last season there were 3 entertaining draws between the sides and it has started in a familiar fashion this season. Colin Nish scored for Kilmarnock in 7 minutes and Craig Dargo levelled it in the 19th. Although Dominating the second half, Caley Thistle had Mark Brown to thank for a world class save in the final minute that would have undeservedly won it for Killie.

23rd September 2006  Rugby Park, Kilmarnock  KILMARNOCK  1 (Nish 7) Team: Smith, Fowler, Lilley, Hay, G Murray, F Wright, Invincible (S Murray 75), Nish, Johnston, Wales, Fernandez (Di Giacomo 83)
Subs – O’Leary, Leven, I Campbell, Adams & Harpur
INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  1 (Dargo 19) Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Wilson, Black (Hart 46), Rankin, McBain, Dargo (McAllister 90), Bayne
Subs – McCaffrey, Duncan, Keogh, Sutherland & Fraser
Referee  Mike McCurry  Attendance  4809  Man of the Match  Colin Nish (Kilmarnock)
With three league draws last season between these sides those of a betting persuasion could justifiably have put money on a share of the points – and they would have been right.
After the midweek cup defeat to Falkirk Charlie Christie reinstated John Rankin and Ian Black to the starting line-up although Black was substituted at half time to avoid a possible second yellow card.
Craig Dargo returned to haunt his old club with the equaliser and he came very close to scoring a winner. He was initially castigated for a bad miss 20 minutes from time but his claim of a fine Graeme Smith save was upheld by TV pictures.
In the opening minutes Black hit just over the Killie bar then a Gary Wales strike at the other end was deflected for a corner. Killie took a seventh minute lead when Colin Nish pushed through a packed defence to head in a David Fernandez corner.
Dargo’s goal came in nineteen minutes when a long throw from Grant Munro on the right was headed on by Darren Dods and Dargo netted from a difficult angle beyond the far post. In 37 minutes Graham Bayne appeared to be sandwiched in the Killie box but referee Mike McCurry did not agree.
Half Time 1-0
Richie Hart replaced Black in the second half and the visitors pressed hard. Graham Bayne headed wide from 12 yards then Dargo headed over and hit the post.
The Inverness side’s best chance of a winner came in 70 minutes when a low Richie Hart drive was spilled by Smith and Dargo nipped in to hopefully touch in the rebound – somehow Smith recovered enough to push the ball onto the post and the danger was averted. Hart then had a 12 yard shot deflected for a corner.
The save of the season came in the final minute when Frazer Wright took an Alan Johnston cross and his downwards header seemed destined to bring the winner – Mark Brown dived to save with an impressed BBC radio commentator comparing it to Gordon Banks at his best.
Full Time: 1-1
A good point on the road but a minor slip to ninth spot.

Kilmarnock V ICT - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Caley Thistle will be determined to shake off the midweek disappointment of losing out to Falkirk in the CIS Cup by trying to take all three points from Kilmarnock this weekend. ICT have not lost an SPL game at Rugby Park, but having said that, all the games against Killie finished in draws last season. Andrew Fraser supplies this match preview. DETAILS Kilmarnock v Inverness CT Rugby Park, Kilmarnock Saturday 23rd September at 3pm SPL Referee: Michael McCurry Others: Steven Crave, Mark Doyle (Assistants), Anthony Low (4th official).
Tickets: This match is a pay at the gate on the day. Ticket prices are: £19 adults, £13 concessions, £5 under 12's. TV-info: Highlights available from ITV1 on Monday evening at 11pm on Scotsport SPL. Live commentary available from BBC Sportsound. FIXTURES Saturday 23rd September: Celtic v Rangers (Setanta, 12.30pm) Dundee Utd v Motherwell Dunfermline v St Mirren Hibernian v Falkirk Kilmarnock v Inverness CT Sunday 24th September: Aberdeen v Hearts (Setanta, 2pm) SPL ROUND-UP Celtic continued to top the table after a nervy 1-0 win at home to Dunfermline. Stephen McManus scored after 30 mins to narrowly escape with 3pts. Aberdeen deservedly came away from Falkirk with a 2-0 victory after goals from Dempsey and Daal. After a summer of transfer sagas, Brewster finally came face to face with his old club although Inverness CT and Dundee Utd drew a blank no score draw which didn’t live up to the pre-match hype. Kilmarnock beat St Mirren 1-0 in Paisley thanks to another own goal by Kirk Broadfoot. On Sunday, there were 2 games. Even though Motherwell played the better football, Hearts stanched an undeserved victory at Fir Park thanks to a solo goal by Jamie Mole. In the other game, Rangers were outplayed by Hibernian live on Setanta. Chris Killen scored 2 for the Hibees as they claimed a vital victory by 2 goals to 1. Sebo got a consolation for the Gers. Both Killen and Bardsley were sent off. So, after 7 games, Celtic lead the chasing pack with 16pts and Motherwell are bottom with just 3pts. RECENT SPL FORM Inverness CT: DWLDDD Kilmarnock: WLDWDW PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 9 times (7 League, 2 Cup) with 29 goals (13 Inverness CT, 16 Kilmarnock) between them. Inverness CT: 1 win (1 League, 0 Cup) Draws: 5 (4 League, 1 Cup) Kilmarnock: 3 wins (2 League, 1 Cup) SOME PREVIOUS MEETINGS 17/02/2001 (Scottish Cup 4th Round) INVERNESS CT 1-1 Kilmarnock: Two late goals were the topic of this game. A Barry Robson goal was cancelled out by Garry Hay meaning a replay was to be played. 06/03/2001 (Scottish Cup 4th Round replay) Kilmarnock 2-1 INVERNESS CT: Even though Davide Xausa put the 1st Division side in front, McGowne and Wright made sure that Kilmarnock were the team to go through. Ally McCoist came on as a sub for Kilmarnock. 23/10/2004 (SPL) Kilmarnock 2-2 INVERNESS CT: After going down twice Inverness deservedly earned their first away point in the SPL. Barry Wilson cancelled out Murray’s opener but then Kilmarnock went ahead through a good goal by Greer. Craig MacKay wrongly sent off McCaffrey after 51 minutes but even though down to 10 men Inverness worked hard and deservedly Liam Fox scored his first ever goal for Inverness with a late equaliser. 04/01/2005 (SPL) INVERNESS CT 0-2 Kilmarnock: ICT ended their stay at Pittodrie with a loss as Killie stopped the good form the team were in. 2 goals by Invincible late on meant Inverness started 2005 off bad. The team could have played better according to some of the ICT fans on the Message Board. FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Inverness CT have an unbeaten SPL record at Rugby Park. • The last three matches have ended in score draws. • The last game was a 6 goal thriller at the Caledonian Stadium. Wyness, Dargo and Proctor scored for Inverness and Naismith and a Wales double scored for Killie. PLAYERS TO WATCH Ian Black (Inverness CT): The Scotland future-squad midfielder is a key part of the Inverness CT squad. Black was signed by John Robertson from Blackburn in 2004 and featured heavily for the reserves that season although was given his chance towards the end of the season with Brewster in charge due to some good appearances in the reserve league. He impressed in the first team and kept his place in the squad for the majority of season 2005/2006. A small player who can jump twice his height always shows 100% and has the ability to become a really good player. Recently signed a new 2 year extension with the club after Dundee Utd was after him during the Summer. Inverness have discovered a skilful player and has considerable talent for his age. Steven Naismith (Kilmarnock): Steven is a brilliant forward with a bright future ahead of him. Already been watched by Arsenal scouts, he will no doubt move down to England in the not so distant future. He hasn’t scored in the last three games although has scored against both the Old Firm already. A really hard player to play against and one Inverness CT will have to mark well in order to keep a clean sheet. FUTURE FIXTURES 16th Dec 2006 at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium 10th Mar 2007 at Rugby Park, Kilmarnock Squad: Mark Brown, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Darren Dods, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, Stuart Golabek, Grant Munro, John Rankin, Ian Black, Roy McBain, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Liam Keogh, Richie Hart, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Craig Dargo, Rory McAllister, Graham Bayne Injured: Dennis Wyness (shoulder) Suspended: Nobody.

Inverness CT 0-1 Falkirk - CIS Cup

Inverness CT 0 - 1 Falkirk  The Curse of the Caledonian Stadium strikes again as Caley Thistle just cant get a decent result at home and are sent crashing out of the CIS cup. Falkirk progress to the next round courtesy of a second half strike from Anthony Stokes in the 60th minute.

Tuesday 19th September 2006  Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Inverness  INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  0  Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings (McAllister 73), Wilson, Duncan (Morgan 62), Keogh, McBain, Dargo (Hart 80), Bayne
Subs: McCaffrey, Fraser
FALKIRK  1 (Stokes 60) Team: Higgins, Thomson, Twaddle, Cregg, Ross, Milne, Dodd, O’Donnell (Craig 20), Gow, Barr, Stokes (Mountinho 74)
Subs: Latapy, Scobbie & Lambers
Referee  Dougie McDonald  Attendance  1198  Man of the Match  Anthony Stokes (Falkirk)     An eagerly anticipated cup tie against a fellow SPL side but in the end disappointment. In truth it was rather a bland game with neither side making much impact on the other’s goal.   Caley Thistle’s best spell came in the last 15 minutes but they could not make the late pressure count. Falkirk held on to their one goal lead and moved into the fourth round.   The first shot on goal was Liam Keogh’s 30 yard low effort in the fifth minute but it was well wide. The prize for highest of the day went to Stephen O’Donnell in the eighth minute when he shot from 20 yards over the bar and the north stand.    Falkirk were forced into an early substitution when O’Donnell went off injured in the 20th minute and was replaced by the lively Liam Craig. Seconds later a Barry Wilson corner from the left reached Darren Dods just in front of the ‘keeper but his header went over the bar. A Craig corner in 27 minutes caused danger in the ICT box and Russell Duncan was forced to head off the line.   The best home effort in the first half came in 33 minutes when Craig Dargo took a touch on the right of the box then turned and shot on the volley – it went high but it was a good move.   Half Time: 0-0   Into the second half and the expected Caley Thistle improvement was a long time in coming. It was Falkirk that took charge and they were rewarded with the only goal of the match on the hour mark. It was created and scored by ‘Man of the Match’ Anthony Stokes. He raced down the left, cut inside, the ball took a couple of deflections into his path then he hammered it past Mark Brown.   Hard-working Graham Bayne was foiled by Falkirk ‘keeper Scott Higgins in 65 minutes when his header was held. Rory McAllister replaced Richard Hastings in 73 minutes to give Caley Thistle an extra attacker and it did lead to a more exciting last 15 minutes for the sparse home support.   McAllister was only on the pitch for two minutes before he had a chance. A Wilson cross from the right reached the young striker just beyond the back post but he stretched and hit it just wide. An Alan Morgan low shot from 20 yards was blocked in 81 minutes then a McAllister header was cleared by a defender. Higgins then held a Wilson header and, with five minutes left, a trademark long range Richie Hart drive dipped just over the bar.   In added time a long throw from Grant Munro bounced into the Falkirk box and Bayne dived to head over. A good chance but it was to be the last one for the home side.   Full Time: 0-1   Falkirk march on in the CIS Insurance Cup. For ICT – back to the league.

ICT V Falkirk - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Falkirk come to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium this evening (Tuesday 19th) in the 3rd round of the CIS Cup. In the previous round Caley Thistle saw off the challenge of Dumbarton (3-1) while Falkirk demolished Cowdenbeath 5-0. Andrew Fraser provides the match preview. Tickets: Pay at the gate is available. TV-info: Dunfermline v Rangers live on Wednesday on BBC TV. Highlights of Tuesday CIS Cup goals will be broadcast before, during or after the game.

DETAILS Inverness CT v Falkirk Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Tuesday 19th September CIS Insurance Cup Third Round (match will be played to a conclusion on the evening with extra time and penalties if needed) Referee: Dougie McDonald Others: Jim Lyon, Steve Pullar (Assistants), Scott McDonald (4th official). FIXTURES Tuesday 19th September: Celtic v St Mirren Inverness CT v Falkirk Kilmarnock v Livingston St Johnstone v Dundee Utd (all 7.45pm kick-off) Wednesday 20th September: Alloa v Hearts Dunfermline v Rangers (BBC TV) Hibernian v Gretna Queens Park v Motherwell (all 7.45pm kick off) CIS CUP 2ND ROUND RESULTS Alloa 2-1 Ross County Ayr 0-0 Dunfermline (Dunfermline win on penalties) Brechin 0-3 Livingston Cowdenbeath 0-5 Falkirk Dundee Utd 1-0 Airdrie Utd (AET) Hibernian 4-0 Peterhead Motherwell 3-2 Partick (AET) Queen of the Sth 1-2 Kilmarnock (AET) Queens Park 0-0 Aberdeen (Queens Park win on penalties) St Johnstone 4-0 Elgin City St Mirren 3-1 Stenhousemuir Inverness CT 3-1 Dumbarton So we enter the 3rd round of the cup with 16 teams left. There are a few ties with the potential of a cup-upset. St Johnstone will be aiming to knock Brewster’s Utd out the cup after they struggled against Airdrie United. Alloa will be hoping the unthinkable will happen when they host Hearts. Gretna will find it hard away to Hibernian after the Edinburgh side just beat Rangers. Queens Park will be hoping to steal the show again. After dumping the Dons, they have another chance of an SPL scalp. And who’s to say they couldn’t snatch a win at home to Motherwell. Both teams have been on poor form and anything could happen. The old-firm both have potentially tricky ties and Inverness CT and Falkirk will hopefully produce an exciting cup tie. PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 24 times (24 League, 0 Cup) with 77 goals (37 Inverness CT, 40 Falkirk) between them. Inverness CT: 7 wins (7 League, 0 Cup) Draws: 6 (6 League, 0 Cup) Falkirk: 11 wins (11 League, 0 Cup) FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • There have been 20 1st Division games and 4 SPL games between the teams. • There has never been a cup tie between the teams until now. • Falkirk haven’t beaten Inverness CT in the 2 meetings in 2006. • The biggest win in the fixture was when Inverness CT beat the Bairns 4-1 at the Falkirk Stadium on the 21/01/2006. Goals from Wilson, Wyness, Dargo and Tokely gave Caley Thistle a comfortable victory. Ireland scored a consolation for Falkirk. PLAYERS TO WATCH Stuart McCaffrey (Inverness CT): Stuart hasn’t enjoyed the best of the seasons since Inverness entered the SPL. He was a key part of the starting 11 as we started our SPL life until Dargo of Kilmarnock at the time got him sent off for a last man challenge. Then Dods came in and produced some quality displays and Stuart injured his back. Last season he spent most of the season on the bench and made some appearances. This season, Stuart played against St Mirren on the opening day and the Dumbarton game. We have great cover in Stuart and he is eager to get back into the first team after featuring heavily for the reserves and putting in some good performances. A reliable centre-back who can also play right-back. If Dods does leave in January or next summer, I am sure Stuart will be given his chance again. He could play against Falkirk on Tuesday. John Stewart (Falkirk): The ex-Aberdeen man almost signed for Inverness CT last month before Falkirk quickly made a move for him. Apparently, John signed for Falkirk for £50,000 and will have to produce the goals to keep the fans happy. The two games he has played in for the Bairns have both produced no goals for Falkirk. Time will tell if Falkirk have saved us wasting money or if Falkirk were right to jump in front of us and claim a bargain. Then again, we have Gary McSwegan. TEAM NEWS INVERNESS CT: Inverness will make a couple of changes with the choice of Stuart Golabek, Stuart McCaffrey, Alan Morgan, Russell Duncan, Liam Keogh and Richie Hart. At least two of these will feature. Dennis Wyness is still sidelined and Gary McSwegan may make his debut. FUTURE FIXTURES 21st Oct 2006 at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium 20th Dec 2006 at Falkirk Stadium 7th April 2007 at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium (all SPL) Squad: Mark Brown, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Darren Dods, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, Stuart Golabek, Grant Munro, John Rankin, Ian Black, Roy McBain, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Liam Keogh, Richie Hart, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Craig Dargo, Rory McAllister, Graham Bayne Injured: Dennis Wyness (shoulder) Suspended: Nobody.

Inverness CT 0-0 Dundee Utd - SPL

Inverness CT 0-0 Dundee Utd After a summer of transfer trauma between the clubs this was billed by the media as a Christie versus Brewster grudge match. It was nothing like that and the only heat generated was from the strong sun. Apart from a few boos it was just another SPL match between two lively teams but it could have done with some goals. Club Historian Ian Broadfoot reports from the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium...

16th September 2006 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Inverness Caledonian Thistle  0 Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Wilson (Keogh 71), Black (Morgan 78), Rankin, McBain,  Dargo (McAllister 84), Bayne.
Subs: McCaffrey, Duncan, Sutherland & Fraser.
Dundee Utd  0 Team: Stillie, Proctor, Kenneth, Archibald, Kalvenes, Robson, Kerr (Brewster 53), Duff (Robb 71), Cameron, Conway, Samuel (Hunt 46)
Subs: Mair, Easton, Robertson & McLean.
Referee Kenny Clark  Attendance 3586  Man of the Match Roy McBain (ICT)
After a summer of transfer trauma between the clubs this was billed by the media as a Christie versus Brewster grudge match. It was nothing like that and the only heat generated was from the strong sun. Apart from a few boos it was just another SPL match between two lively teams but it could have done with some goals.
United’s new captain Barry Robson returned from suspension and received his share of heckling from his former fans and the visitors also included recent signing David Proctor, returning for the first time to his former home.
Caley Thistle retained the same team as last week with Dennis Wyness still on the sidelines. Caley Thistle had most of the play in the first half but Craig Conway came closest to a goal at the other end when he rattled the crossbar in the ninth minute. Before that Derek Stillie saved a Craig Dargo header and a first-time shot on the turn by Graham Bayne. Stillie dived to save from Bayne in the twelfth minute then two minutes later Bayne headed wide.
A John Rankin bouncing shot from 20 yards went wide in 31 minutes then Bayne had his best chance of the game in 37 minutes. He was set up by a Rankin interception but his on-target effort was blocked by Stillie. Seconds later a strong Ross Tokely run set up another chance. Tokely’s shot was off target but Dargo latched onto it and scored from six yards – the offside flag was up however before the ball hit the back of the net.
Half Time: 0-0
Another Rankin effort from just outside the box went wide just after the break and United then began to push forward. Lone striker Collin Samuel was replaced at the interval by Noel Hunt and he was joined up front in 53 minutes by Craig Brewster. This added some spice to the game – particularly as he was in direct opposition to his signing target Darren Dods. Dods came out on top most of the time and Brewster had few sights of goal. He was close to a shot in 61 minutes but Grant Munro stepped in with a trademark timely tackle. Brewster did net in 67 minutes but he was well offside.
In 73 minutes he latched onto a Robson bouncing ball but his flick was easily taken by Brown. Brewster robbed Dods seven minutes from time then found Hunt in the box – Hunt went down claiming a penalty but Kenny Clark did not agree. The defining moment of the match came with five minutes left when Steven Robb crossed and Barry Robson dived to head goalwards. It looked net bound but Mark Brown dived to produce the save of the match and push the ball away. It would have been a bitter blow to the home side.
An Alan Morgan free kick flew just over Stillie’s bar as time ran out and it ended zero-zero.
Full Time: 0-0
The two teams are now level on seven points but Caley Thistle edged up to eighth spot on goal difference.

ICT V DUFC - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Charlie Christie will face off against Craig Brewster this weekend hoping that the talking will finally be about what happens on the park rather than the strained relations between the clubs. He will also be hoping to make it 3 wins out of three against the Tannadice mob since taking over from Brewster.
Brewster knows he is unlikely to get the warmest of welcomes at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium but shrugged it off when he spoke to the Inverness Courier earlier in the week saying ... "The way I see it is, if the crowd are giving me stick, they're not giving my players stick. If other people want to talk up other issues, rather than the game and put an added spin on it, that's up to them. Charlie's job is to get his players up for it and mine is to get Dundee United up for it. We'll see how it works out on the day."
Charlie however had his own comment on the start to the season when he said "I find it strange some people seem to regard Dundee United as having had a relatively good start to the season and us a mediocre one, yet we're above them in the league. It makes you smile."

DETAILS Inverness CT v Dundee Utd Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Inverness Saturday 16th September at 3pm SPL Referee: Kenny Clark Others: Gary Cheyne, Tommy Johnston (Assistants), Colin Brown(4th official). FIXTURES
Saturday 16th September: Celtic v Dunfermline Falkirk v Aberdeen Inverness CT v Dundee Utd St Mirren v Kilmarnock (all 3pm) Sunday 17th September: Hibernian v Rangers (Setanta, 2pm) Motherwell v Hearts (3pm) SPL ROUND-UP Celtic held onto their top spot in the SPL after a nervy win in Aberdeen. The game kicked off at 12.30pm and it was the commentators nightmare Jan Vennegor of Hesselink who scored with 12 minutes remaining. Rangers comfortably brushed aside Falkirk at Ibrox by 4 goals to nil. Bardlsey, Prso, Boyd and Buffel all contributed with a goal to get Rangers back to winning ways. St Mirren produced one of the shocks of the days as they battled hard defensively to snatch a 1-0 victory away to Hearts. I seem to remember a so called Inverness CT doing this, working hard defensively then catching the opposition out on the break. Copying us, how dare they!!!! Anyway, a good result that keeps the Saints in the top six and knocked Hearts off top spot. Stewart Kean got the goal. Dunfermline beat Kilmarnock 3-2 to move them off the bottom. Stevie Crawford scored on his return to the Pars. Motherwell lost again at home as Inverness CT easily dispatched the Well by winning 4-1. Tokely put Inverness 1-0 up at half time and Dargo added shortly afterwards. Scott McDonald scored to give Motherwell hope but slack defending and good attacking play by Barry Wilson, let an unexpected Munro get his second of the season and youngster Rory McAllister get his first league goal for the club. On Sunday Hibernian calmly beat Dundee Utd 3-0 with goals from Killen, Sheils and Sproule. After 6 games, Celtic lead with 13pts and Motherwell prop up the table with 3pts. Only 32 games to go!!!!! RECENT SPL FORM Inverness CT: WLDDDL Dundee Utd: LWDDDL PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 11 times (8 League, 3 Cup) with 28 goals (15 Inverness CT, 13 Dundee Utd) between them. Inverness CT: 3 wins (2 League, 1 Cup) Draws: 5 (4 League, 1 Cup) Dundee Utd: 3 wins (2 League, 1 Cup) A GAME TO REMEMBER For this weeks game to remember we take you back to Inverness CT’s first ever victory over Dundee Utd. In their previous 7 attempts Inverness had failed to beat the Terrors but the midweek CIS Cup match gave them another chance to break the duck. Only 2 minutes had gone when Liam Fox put Inverness CT into an early lead. And with 4 minutes left of the first half, Barry Wilson capitalised on a keeper error to slam the ball home making it 2-0 and very difficult for United to come back. If I remember correctly Barry Robson hit the woodwork 3 times during the match!! The 2nd half didn’t bring any goals giving Caley Thistle their first victory over Dundee United in history. Inverness CT eventually lost in the next round away to Livingston. The attendance was 1919. The teams were as follows: INVERNESS CT: Brown, Duncan, Dods, Munro, Morgan, Proctor, Hart, Fox, Wilson, Wyness, McAllister. Subs- Black (for McAllister), Fraser, Parratt, Finnigan, Brewster. DUNDEE UTD: Stillie, McCracken, Ritchie, Archibald, Wilson, Canero, Brebner, Duff, Robson, Miller, Fernandez. Subs- Samuel (for Duff), McIntyre (for Miller), McInnes (for Canero), Kenneth, McLean. The referee was John Underhill and there was only 1 booking on the day: Miller of Dundee Utd. Nine of the Inverness players who started the match still play for the club! FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Inverness CT are currently unbeaten in the last 5 meetings between the sides. • Dundee Utd never lost any of the first 7 meetings between the teams. • The biggest wins were by Inverness CT 2-0 and 4-2 last season. • Craig Dargo (Inverness CT) was the last person to score in the fixture. PLAYERS TO WATCH Darren Dods (Inverness CT): After a Summer of speculation, most Inverness CT fans are just glad that Dods still plays for the side after Brewster’s many attempts to sign him. This Saturday, they come face to face. Brewster really wanted Dods to join him at United but a strong Caley Jags never gave in and kept hold of their terrific centre-back. He is a really strong defender who was on form for most of last season. A lot of us are looking forward to see what sort of performance he puts in against Brewster’s Utd. Barry Robson (Dundee Utd): The ex-Rangers and Inverness CT player is now one of the best players at the club. Although he does get sent-off a few times each year. During his spell in the Highlands, he was loaned out to Forfar and he hasn’t looked back since. Enjoyed a terrific period playing for Inverness and eventually decided it was time to move on. Time will tell if it was the right decision. Always glad to be back playing at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium and is keen to beat his old club. Always be remembered as the ginger winger. FUTURE FIXTURES 9td Dec 2006 at Tannadice, Dundee 3rd Mar 2007 at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Squad: Mark Brown, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Darren Dods, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, Stuart Golabek, Grant Munro, John Rankin, Ian Black, Roy McBain, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Liam Keogh, Richie Hart, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Craig Dargo, Rory McAllister, Graham Bayne Injured: Dennis Wyness (shoulder) Suspended: Nobody.

Motherwell 1-4 Inverness CT - SPL

Motherwell 1-4 ICT
Barry wilson has a great day as he sets up all 4 of Caley Thistle's goals against Motherwell.
Ross Tokely opened the scoring in a tight first half but second half goals from Craig Dargo, Grant Munro and Rory McAllister's first league goal - which was also ICT's 100th goal in the SPL -  sealed the match in style.

9th September 2006  Fir Park, Motherwell  MOTHERWELL  1 (McDonald 71) Team: Smith, Quinn, Craigan, Reynolds, Paterson (MacLean 18), McBride (McGarry 53), Kerr, Lasley, Foran, Elliot (Coakley 65), McDonald
Subs – Fitzpatrick, Connolly, McCormack & Meldrum
INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  4 (Tokely 25, Dargo 48, Munro 78, McAllister 88) Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Wilson, Black (Morgan 81), Rankin (Keogh 80), McBain, Dargo (McAllister 83), Bayne
Subs – McCaffrey, Duncan, Sutherland & Fraser
Referee  William Collum  Attendance  4091  Man of the Match  Barry Wilson (ICT)
The Hearts’ result at Tynecastle equalled ICT’s worst defeat in the SPL but a fortnight is a long time in football – this fine win at Motherwell equalled the club’s best SPL score.
Motherwell manager Maurice Malpas may not have been happy with his strikers or his defence but Charlie Christie was delighted to gain the first SPL victory of the season. With Dennis Wyness still sidelined Craig Dargo came back from injury to partner Graham Bayne up front. Otherwise the team from Tynecastle remained intact.
Ian Black, fresh from signing an extended contract, made his 50th appearance. His name may not have appeared on the score sheet but the Highland hero of the day was Barry Wilson who set up all four goals and was always a threat with his pinpoint crosses.
After exchanges at both ends Motherwell should have taken the lead in 20 minutes when Kevin McBride failed to connect with a Scott MacDonald cross in a good position.
The first goal came five minutes later at the other end when a Wilson free kick was punched away by Graeme Smith but only as far as Ross Tokely. The big defender scored with a looping header to open his account for the season. In 36 minutes the Steelmen came close when a Brian Kerr 20 yard free kick rebounded off the bar. With the break looming Smith parried a Wilson drive and Bayne was robbed of the ball by Brian McLean as he seemed certain to score.
Half Time: 0-1
The second goal came just three minutes into the second half when Wilson robbed Paul Quinn and squared the ball to give Dargo a close-range chance which he did not turn down. The Motherwell camp began to realise this was not their day when in 54 minutes Richie Foran missed the easiest of chances from just two yards out.
They did pull one back in 71 minutes when Scott McDonald headed home a Keith Lasley free kick. Smith made an excellent save from Dargo in 78 minutes but the resultant corner from Wilson proved fatal. Bayne flicked it on and Grant Munro was in the right place to hammer home his second goal of the season. It was now all over for Motherwell and their fans started to head for home. Youngster Rory McAllister finished the scoring two minutes from time when he headed in another Wilson corner.
Full Time: 1-4
A good day’s work, three valuable points and a small but significant climb from tenth to ninth.
