Dundee Utd 3-1 Inverness CT - SPL

Noel Hunt scores twice and David Robertson wraps it ups as Craig Levein continues his good start at Tannadice. Club Historian Ian Broadfoot provides this report from Tannadice Stadium.
DUNDEE UTD 3-1 ICT
18th November 2006  Tannadice Park, Dundee  DUNDEE UTD  3 (Hunt 22 & 65, Robertson 78) Team: Stillie, Duff, Mair, Archibald, Kalvenes, Conway, Kerr, Robertson, Robson, Samuel (Cameron 63), Hunt (Goodwillie 84)
SUBS: McLean, McCracken, Robb, Kenneth & Smith
INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  1 (Wilson 15)  Team: Brown, Tokely, McCaffrey, Munro, Hastings, Wilson (Wyness 76), Black, Rankin, McBain, Dargo, Bayne
SUBS: Morgan, Duncan, Soane, Sutherland, McAllister & Fraser
Referee  Stuart Dougal  Attendance  5294  Man of the Match  Noel Hunt (Dundee Utd)   Dundee United’s revival under new manager Craig Levein continued at the expense of Caley Thistle, despite the visitors taking a 15th minute lead through Barry Wilson. By half time it was 1-1 and United scored two second half goals to seal the victory.   With Darren Dods suspended Stuart McCaffrey came in for his second league start of the season for ICT and Barry Wilson was made captain for the day. Injuries restricted Charlie Christie’s options but he did bring back John Rankin with Russell Duncan dropping to the bench. Alan Morgan also took a bench slot, his first squad appearance since September.   United dominated the opening period and a strong run by Collin Samuel in the second minute was stopped by Grant Munro. The home side could easily have taken the lead in nine minutes were it not for a superb save by Mark Brown from a Noel Hunt close-range header. A Craig Conway header then flashed past Brown’s post to safety.   The opening came at the other end in 15 minutes when Wilson was brought down by Samuel just outside the box and the captain-for-the-day curled the 25 yard free kick expertly round the wall and into the top corner. This ended Caley Thistle’s goal drought but United equalised seven minutes later when Hunt headed home a Craig Conway cross from seven yards out. The away camp thought Hunt was offside but the goal stood.   The crime count was rising by the minute and seven names finished up in Stuart Dougal’s book by the end of the match.  Five minutes from the break a John Rankin free kick was dropped by Derek Stillie but he recovered in time to block Graham Bayne’s follow-up. Brown kept it to 1-1 just before the interval when he saved from Barry Robson.   Half Time: 1-1   Into the second half and more pressure from United. They went 2-1 up in 65 minutes when a Robson corner reached Hunt via David Robertson and he had an easy job to touch it home from virtually the goal line although it was probably going in anyway. Hunt then came close to a hat trick but his header went past the post.   Hunt turned provider in 78 minutes when he sent a ball from the bye line which Robertson hit home from six yards for 3-1. With four minutes left Caley Thistle were awarded a penalty for a Stuart Duff foul on Dennis Wyness but Craig Dargo’s kick sailed over the bar.   Full Time: 3-1   It ended 3-1 to United and Caley Thistle remain eighth – but on goal difference from Dundee United.

Dundee Utd V ICT - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Andrew Fraser previews this weekend's match against Dundee United. Caley Thistle have not been beaten by Dundee United in their last 6 meetings, lets hope that the streak continues, but with Brewster gone and Levein now in his place, United seem to be performing better so it will be yet another hard game for ICT.

Inverness CT: 3 wins (2 League, 1 Cup) Draws: 6 (5 League, 1 Cup) Dundee Utd: 3 wins (2 League, 1 Cup) A GAME TO REMEMBER For this weeks game to remember we take you back to Inverness CT’s first ever victory over Dundee Utd. In their previous 7 attempts Inverness had failed to beat the Terrors but the midweek CIS Cup match gave them another chance to break the duck. Only 2 minutes had gone when Liam Fox put Inverness CT into an early lead. And with 4 minutes left of the first half, Barry Wilson capitalised on a keeper error to slam the ball home making it 2-0 and very difficult for United to come back. If I remember correctly Barry Robson hit the woodwork 3 times during the match!! The 2nd half didn’t bring any goals giving Caley Thistle their first victory over Dundee United in history. Inverness CT eventually lost in the next round away to Livingston. The attendance was 1919. The teams were as follows: INVERNESS CT: Brown, Duncan, Dods, Munro, Morgan, Proctor, Hart, Fox, Wilson, Wyness, McAllister. Subs- Black (for McAllister), Fraser, Parratt, Finnigan, Brewster. DUNDEE UTD: Stillie, McCracken, Ritchie, Archibald, Wilson, Canero, Brebner, Duff, Robson, Miller, Fernandez. Subs- Samuel (for Duff), McIntyre (for Miller), McInnes (for Canero), Kenneth, McLean. The referee was John Underhill and there was only 1 booking on the day: Miller of Dundee Utd. Nine of the Inverness players who started the match still play for the club! FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Inverness CT are currently unbeaten in the last 6 meetings between the sides. • Dundee Utd never lost any of the first 7 meetings between the teams. • The biggest wins were by Inverness CT 2-0 and 4-2 last season. • Craig Dargo (Inverness CT) was the last person to score in the fixture. PLAYERS TO WATCH Stuart McCaffrey (Inverness CT): The ex-Aberdeen and Hibs player has been subjected to the bench since he got sent off against Kilmarnock in October 2004, only making rare starts. This is all because of a very solid ICT defence which has kept out Golabek aswell. However with Dods getting sent off last week this gives McCaffrey a chance in getting a place in the defence, in the same way Dods did it 2 years ago. Stuart has played the majority of reserve games this year and is eager to gain his place back. Stuart has made over 180 apps for the club and is keen to get playing regular SPL football again. Noel Hunt (Dundee Utd): Craig Brewster signed Hunt during the summer transfer window of this year. However Noel failed to shine under Brewster’s guidance, although still managed a couple of goals. With the new arrival of Craig Levein though, he has started finding the goals again and will return from injury for Saturdays game. FUTURE FIXTURES 3rd Mar 2007 at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium NOTE: The Scottish Cup 3rd round draw takes place on Saturday shortly after 5pm at the Meadowbank Stadium where Edinburgh City v Stirling Albion is taking place. Inverness CT will be number 20 in the draw which takes place live on BBC Scotland TV and Radio. Inverness CT 0-1 Motherwell - SPL

Motherwell make it 3 wins in their last 3 visits to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. However, it took until the 90th minute for that  victory to be achieved when Darren Dods made a last man challenge that was judged as a foul meaning a red card for him and a penalty for 'Well. Richie Foran made no mistake from the spot. Ian Broadfoot reports.
ICT 0-1 MOTHERWELL
2nd December 2006 Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Inverness  INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  0 Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods , Munro, Hastings, Wilson (Rankin 82), Duncan (Hart 68), Black, McBain, Dargo (McAllister 63), Bayne Subs: McCaffrey, Wyness, Sutherland & Fraser
MOTHERWELL  1 (Foran 90pen)  Team: Meldrum, Quinn, Craigan (Kinniburgh 89), Reynolds, Paterson, McGarry, Lasley (Corrigan 74), Kerr, Foran, Clarkson (Elliot 72), McDonald Subs: D Smith, Connolly, Fitzpatrick, & G Smith
Referee  Eddie Smith  Attendance  3668  Man of the Match  Darren Dods (ICT) Not a game to write home about and with neither side showing any real cutting edge it looked like ending goalless. All that changed two minutes from the end of normal time when Darren Dods upended Scott McDonald and Richie Foran netted from the penalty spot to give Motherwell three precious points.
Dods received a second yellow card and headed for an early shower, just minutes after being named ‘Man of the Match’. It was no consolation that Foran was booked for his celebrations in front of the small but vocal travelling support.
Charlie Christie made just one change to the starting line-up with Dennis Wyness making way for Graham Bayne. There was heavy overnight rain, and more in the hour leading to kick-off, but it was dry overhead for the match although the surface was slippy. Scott McDonald was always a threat for the visitors and he had two chances from kick-off. First he shot miles wide from 25 yards then he ran for half the length of the park before hitting over the bar.
In the fourth minute an excellent ICT move nearly paid off. A Richard Hastings header reached Craig Dargo via Graham Bayne and it was knocked on for Barry Wilson to chase. He did enough to ensure that ‘keeper Colin Meldrum missed it and it fell for Dargo. He hit it across goal from wide left and, with Meldrum stranded, a defender cleared off the line. It was to be a rare moment of excitement in a lacklustre game.
A Hastings cross in 14 minutes was volleyed first time by Dargo but Colin Meldrum held it confidently. Meldrum dived to hold a Bayne header in 21 minutes then the move and result were repeated on the half hour mark.
Two Dods shots were blocked five minutes from the break then came the best chance of the half. A poor ball out of defence was pounced on by Wilson and, with just Meldrum blocking his route to goal, he hit an angled shot from the right. Meldrum did well to scramble it clear.
Motherwell shots were rare in the first half and most were off target. They did create danger seconds before the half time whistle when a low ball from the left skidded across goal and was missed by everybody. Strangely a corner was awarded.
Half Time: 0-0
Into the second half and a flurry of activity from the visitors. They still rarely found a route to goal but a David Clarkson header did go just wide in 49 minutes.
At the other end Meldrum dealt with anything that came his way and there was little to enthuse about. In 70 minutes Keith Lasley fouled Ian Black and was injured in the process. After a four minute delay, during which Motherwell made two substitutions, Lasley was booked and stretchered off.
By now ICT had introduced Rory McAllister and Richie Hart but still nothing came off. Motherwell came close in 78 minutes when McDonald shot over from close range.
With two minutes left McDonald was bearing down on Mark Brown’s goal with Dods in pursuit when the defender tackled him and he went down spectacularly. There were half-hearted protests but it was a penalty. Richie Foran gave Brown no chance and the goal proved to be the winner despite five added minutes.
Full Time: 0-0
A worrying four games without a goal but seventh spot retained.

ICT V Motherwell - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Motherwell are struggling at the moment and were soundly beaten by Hibs two weeks ago at Fir Park by a scoreline of 1-6. However, fast forward 7 days to last week and it was Motherwell handing out the 'doing' at Fir Park by beating Falkirk 4-2. With the visiting side winning each of the last 5 fixtures between the sides (3 wins for ICT at FP, 2 for 'Well at TCS) its a difficult game to predict. Andrew Fraser supplies the preview. DETAILS Inverness CT v Motherwell Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Saturday 2nd December at 3pm SPL Referee: Eddie Smith Others: Keith Sorbie, Mark Doyle (Assistants), Anthony Law (4th official)
Tickets: Cash gates available on the day for north/south stands. Main stand all ticket. TV-info: LIVE commentary on BBC Radio Scotland. Highlights on Monday on Scotsport SPL. FIXTURES Saturday 2nd December: Celtic v Aberdeen Hibernian v Dundee Utd Inverness CT v Motherwell Kilmarnock v Dunfermline St Mirren v Hearts Sunday 3rd December: Falkirk v Rangers (Setanta, 2pm) SPL RESULTS Saturday 25th November: Dunfermline 0-3 Aberdeen (Mackie 2, Miller) Inverness CT 0-0 Hearts Motherwell (Foran 2, McDonald (5000th spl goal), Elliot) 4-2 Falkirk (Stokes, Latapy) Sunday 26th November: Dundee Utd (Hunt) 1-0 St Mirren Hibernian (Sproule, Thomson) 2-2 Celtic (Sno, McGeady) Rangers (Adam, Prso, Boyd) 3-0 Kilmarnock RECENT SPL FORM Inverness CT: DLLDD Motherwell: WLLDD PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 12 times (8 League, 4 Cup) with 28 goals (16 Inverness CT, 12 Motherwell) between them. Inverness CT: 6 wins (5 League, 1 Cup) Draws: 2 (1 League, 1 Cup(won by well on penalties)) Motherwell: 4 wins (2 League, 2 Cup) A GAME TO REMEMBER For this weeks game to remember we take you back another one of Inverness’s great cup killing shocks. On the 6th March 2004 in the Scottish Cup Quarter finals, Inverness CT were drawn away to Motherwell. Inverness were going strong in the league and we full of confidence heading to Fir Park. What we didn’t know was that Barry Wilson was to score a wonder goal. Both teams started the game well but after 10 mins, Inverness took the lead thanks to goal of the season by Wilson. Barry received the ball 35 yards+ from goal and he chested it and striked a half volley that dipped over Marshall. By far goal of the round. Motherwell never really got going throughout the match and Inverness CT had a few chances to finish the tie in the second half but they eventually held out to reach the semi-finals for the first ever time in their history. The look on Barry’s face at the end of the game showed how much it meant to him as he was delighted. The attendance was 7930. The teams were as follows: INVERNESS CT: Brown, Tokely, Mann, McCaffrey, Golabek, McBain, Duncan, Thomson, Wilson, Ritchie, Keogh. Subs- Munro (for Thomson), Proctor (for Ritchie), Fraser, Hart, McMillan. MOTHERWELL: Marshall, Quinn, Corrigan, Craigan, Hammell, Lasley, Adams, Fagan, Burns, McDonald, Clarkson. Subs- O’Donnell (for Fagan), Wright (for Clarkson), Corr, K.McDonald, Kinniburgh. The referee was Kenny Clark and there were NO bookings on the day. Eight of the Inverness players who started the match still play for the club. FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Only twice has a team scored 3 or more goals in this fixture and both teams have had the joy. Inverness CT were the latest in the last fixture winning 4-1 away at Fir Park. • In games between the two teams, not a lot of goals have been scored so don’t expect a goal fest this weekend, but if the last game is anything to go by, we may see a few goals. OVERVIEW This is a big match for both teams. Motherwell bounced back last week after getting hammered 6-1 by Hibs the week before. They beat Falkirk 4-2 after another high scoring game. Motherwell are putting in a mixture of different performances and know that they need to get a run of victories to ease any relegation worries. Scott McDonald managed to score the 5000th SPL goal last week which will give him confidence. They have had 16 bookings in their last 6 games but no player has scored in two consecutive games in these 6 games. Inverness CT have not won since they beat Falkirk 3-2 at home on the 21st October. This sounds like a worrying statistic but Inverness are still in a contention for a top six and to be fair, their fixtures in November (Aberdeen, Hibs, Celtic and Hearts) were very tough. Christie will be looking for his players to turn some draws into wins in December with a decent set of fixtures against teams around about them. Inverness CT haven’t scored in 283 minutes of football and they will be looking to end this early in the match on Saturday. They have had 24 bookings in their last 12 games and one red card. I don’t think Christie cares who scores on Saturday, as long as somebody does and it gives the Highlanders the three points. FUTURE FIXTURES 17th Feb 2007 at Fir Park Squad: Mark Brown, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Darren Dods, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, Stuart Golabek, Grant Munro, John Rankin, Ian Black, Roy McBain, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Richie Hart, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Craig Dargo, Rory McAllister, Dennis Wyness, Graham Bayne Injured: Gary McSwegan (ankle) Liam Keogh (doubtful) Suspended: Nobody.

Inverness CT 0-0 Hearts - SPL

It finished honours even at the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium after a more recognisable Hearts team - with Pressley restored to it as captain - held Caley Thistle at bay. Club Historian Ian Broadfoot reports from the match.
ICT 0-0 HEARTS
25th November 2006  Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Inverness  INVERNESS CALEDONIAN THISTLE FC  0 Team: Brown, Tokely, Dods, Munro, Hastings, Wilson, Duncan, Black (Hart 73), McBain, Dargo (McAllister 87), Wyness (Bayne 79) Subs: McCaffrey, Rankin, Sutherland & Fraser
HEARTS  0  Team: Gordon, Neilson, Fyssas (Wallace 68), Pressley, Aguiar (Mole 83), Hartley, Barasa, Brellier, Mikoliunas (McCann 86), Berra, Velicka              Subs: Tall, Zaliukas, Jankauskas & Banks
Referee  Iain Brines  Attendance  5603  Man of the Match  Darren Dods (ICT)   A good point earned against Hearts but with a rub of the green it could have been three. The unrest and management confusion at Hearts did not stop them from being dangerous opponents but Caley Thistle matched them in every department.   Mark Brown came back from suspension to take his place in the home goal with Mike Fraser reverting to the bench, Ian Black came in for John Rankin and Dennis Wyness replaced Graham Bayne in the starting line-up.   The big news from Hearts was that Stephen Pressley was back in the team and as captain. As the teams ran out the cameras were all trained on the Directors’ box to see the arrival of Vladimir Romanov and returning manager Valdas Ivanauskas, team matters were however still in the hands of Eduard Malofeev for one more match.   Caley Thistle strode upfield from the kick-off but Hearts immediately counter-attacked and Paul Hartley sent an angled shot over the home bar from the right of the box. With five minutes on the clock a long Grant Munro free kick was met on the volley by Craig Dargo six yards out and he forced a good save from Craig Gordon – it all looked good but the offside flag was up.   Another Munro free kick four minutes later led to a blocked Wyness shot and a cleared Roy McBain header. It all went rather quiet until the 26th minute when a Dargo pass set up Barry Wilson just outside the box. Wilson sent a strong bouncing shot goalwards but Gordon showed his class to divert it for a corner.   On the half hour mark Saulius Mikoliunas robbed Ross Tokely but his on-target shot was parried by Brown. In 35 minutes a Wilson chipped free kick led to danger that was only ended when Gordon bravely smothered the ball under pressure.   Gordon produced his best save of the match in 41 minutes when Black headed a Richard Hastings cross towards the top corner and the ‘keeper tipped it up in the air before catching it on the way down.   Half Time: 0-0   Hartley was in a dangerous position five minutes into the second half but he slipped before he could shoot. With an hour gone Pressley volleyed well wide then a Mikoliunas shot from 18 yards was blocked. Bruno Aguiar tried a spectacular shot in 75 minutes but it safely cleared the bar.   Caley Thistle substitute Richie Hart sent in an excellent cross a minute later but Dargo’s header was saved by Gordon. The closing period was almost all Caley Thistle and in 79 minutes a long Dargo run was set up by a neat Russell Duncan pass. Dargo headed straight for goal but his final shot went wide.   Graham Bayne came on for Wyness and his height and strong presence caused the Hearts’ defence additional problems. Seconds after he arrived on the scene he latched onto a Munro free kick and headed across goal for Dargo – Gordon stepped in to save. In the closing ten minutes Hart hit wide from long range, Ross Tokely also struck wide, Gordon saved from McBain and Darren Dods headed off target.   Brown had been rarely troubled but with three minutes of normal time left Hartley sent in a long shot which the ‘keeper expertly tipped for a corner. In added time Julien Brellier slid in to deny Wilson a shot then a Bayne effort was cleared. The last action was a bouncing shot from Hart that ran wide.   Full Time: 0-0   A fine ICT performance but just one point and seventh spot retained.

ICT V Hearts - Preview

Teaser Paragraph:
Mark Brown returns to the squad to face Hearts after missing last week's game through suspension. Hearts are in deep turmoil and its not clear who will be in charge of the side (or on the pitch) for this game. Valdas Ivanauskas flew in to Edinburgh with Vladimir Romanov on Friday but supposedly wont resume his post until Monday, and both Eduard Malofeev and Eugenijus Riabovas are unavailable ... Can ICT take advantage, and all three points ? Andrew Fraser provides the preview.
TV-info: LIVE commentary on BBC Radio Scotland (UK only). Highlights available on Scotsport SPL on Monday night. DETAILS Inverness CT v Hearts Tulloch Caledonian Stadium Saturday 25th November at 3pm Referee: ? Others: ?
FIXTURES Saturday 25th November: Dunfermline v Aberdeen Inverness CT v Hearts Motherwell v Falkirk Sunday 26th November: Dundee Utd v St Mirren Hibernian v Celtic (Setanta, 2pm) Rangers v Kilmarnock SPL ROUND-UP Only 12 goals were scored in the 6 games last weekend. At least there wasn’t any Monday night football!! Aberdeen kept up the pressure on 2nd place with a well deserved 2-0 over St Mirren. Darren Mackie got a much needed 2 goals for his club keeping up the form of Aberdeen and pushing St Mirren further down near the bottom of the table. Celtic eventually stopped any chance of Caley going Ballistic at Celtic Park. A Dods own goal, Hesselink and Jarosik gave Celtic a 3-0 victory after a closely fought first half. Had Inverness CT gone in front in the 1st minute when they created a great chance, it would have been a different story. Inverness CT are yet to beat Celtic in the SPL, but I am sure it will happen eventually. Dunfermline look set for a bright future as their new manager Kenny watched this game from the stands. Craig Levein lost his first game as Dundee Utd manager as they lost 2-1. Robson opened the scoring for Utd but Shields and Mason gave the Pars the much needed 3pts to take them level with Motherwell. Kilmarnock came from behind as well to beat Falkirk 2-1. Again the away side took the lead through, yes you guessed it, Anthony Stokes. Hay and an O’Donnell own goal gifted Killie the win. Colin Nish was sent off for Kilmarnock after 88 mins. The result of the day however came from Fir Park where Motherwell were completely brushed aside by a fast flowing Hibernian side. John Collins already seems to be continuing the good work of Tony Mowbray, especially after this 6-1 victory. Goals from Brown, Killen, Sproule 2, Jones and Shiels secured the trouncing even though Maguire scored a consolation for the Well. Malpas must be wondering how long he can survive especially after losing by such a considerable score line. He will have to lift the players before next weeks home match against Falkirk or could end up bottom on their own. On the other hand, this isn’t a better time for Hibs to entertain Celtic next week. Well done John Collins after a terrific start as manager!! On Sunday, there was a pulsating match at Tynecastle between Hearts and Rangers. There was only one goal however, and it came from Nacho Novo for Rangers with 12 mins to go. A total of 7 players were booked but none were sent off. 5 were for Rangers with only 2 for Hearts. So after 15 games, Celtic lead by 15pts and Dunfermline and Motherwell are bottom by 2pts. PAST MEETINGS The teams have played a total of 8 times (7 League, 1 Cup) with 15 goals (7 Inverness CT, 8 Hearts) between them. Inverness CT: 2 wins (1 League, 1 Cup) Draws: 3 (3 League, 0 Cup) Hearts: 3 wins (3 League, 0 Cup) A GAME TO REMEMBER For this weeks game to remember we take you back another one of Inverness’s great cup killing shocks. On the 26th January 2001 in the Scottish Cup 4th round, Inverness CT were drawn away to Hearts. Nobody predicted a shock, but Inverness weren’t listening. A tremendous display from the inform 1st Division side gave the Highlanders another giant cup killing act to add to their collection. Ross Tokely’s opener was cancelled out just before the break by Gary Wales of Hearts. A few thought that was the chance of a shock gone but Inverness showed the world how to play football in the second half when Dennis Wyness and David Bagan both slotted perfect goals to gift Inverness CT passage to the Quarter-final. Man of the match was Hearts fan Ross Tokely. The attendance was 12016. The teams were as follows: INVERNESS CT: Walker, Tokely, Mann, McCaffrey, McBain, Munro, Duncan, Chrisite, Robson, Ritchie, Wyness. Subs- Bagan (for Christie), Calder, Bavidge, Golabek, Stewart. HEARTS: Niemi, Webster, Severin, Mahe, Maybury, Flogel, Gronlund, Fulton, McCann, Fuller, Wales. Subs- Kirk (for Webster), Simmons (for McCann), Adam (for Wales), McKenzie, Kazcan. The referee was Alan Freeland and there were two bookings on the day: Duncan and Robson both of Inverness CT. Six of the Inverness players who started the match still play for the club and one is now the manager! FACTS BETWEEN THE TEAMS • All League meetings between the teams have taken place in the SPL. • Paul Hartley is the top scorer in the fixture with 2 goals. • Inverness CT have never beaten Hearts at home. They have played 3 times in Inverness resulting in 2 draws and a 1-0 win for Hearts. TOP SCORERS 2 goals: Hartley (Hearts) 1 goal: Tokely, Wyness, Bagan, Juanjo, Dods, Wilson, Bayne (all ICT), Wales, Skacel, Pinilla, Mole, Driver, Aguiar (all Hearts). PLAYERS TO WATCH Dennis Wyness (Inverness CT): The ex-Hearts man has been on the sidelines for Inverness the past few weeks after an injury that has kept him out since August 26th. He could finally get called on from the start on Saturday after Caley Thistle going goal-shy upfront in the last two games. A great player who set up a great partnership with Craig Dargo last year is eager to get back into the starting 11 and score his first goal of the season on Saturday. Steven Pressley (Hearts): The (possibly ex) Hearts captain is a rock solid Scotland internationalist who is one of the main reasons behind Hearts success in the last few years. Although after he spoke out about the turmoil, he has been dropped for the last 2 games with apparently his armband stripped from him. If the Jambos were to lose this guy, it would be a big loss and one the management team might just regret. Manager (Hearts): Whoever it may be. Will there actually be a manager on Saturday? Who knows!! FUTURE FIXTURES 10th Feb 2007 at Tynecastle Squad: Mark Brown, Jonathon Smith, Michael Fraser, Darren Dods, Stuart Soane, Ross Tokely, Guy Kerr, Richard Hastings, Stuart McCaffrey, Stuart Golabek, Grant Munro, John Rankin, Ian Black, Roy McBain, Zander Sutherland, Alan Morgan, Liam Keogh, Richie Hart, Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan, Craig Dargo, Gary McSwegan, Rory McAllister, Dennis Wyness, Graham Bayne Injured: Nobody. Suspended: Nobody.

Celtic 3-0 Inverness CT - SPL

CELTIC 3-0 ICT Caley Thistle were soundly beaten by Celtic but in truth didnt play at all badly.  Referee  Kenny Clark  Attendance  56637  Man of the Match   A disappointing afternoon in Paradise for Caley Thistle but a good performance – particularly in the first half.
It took until close to half time before Celtic broke down the resolute defence but it was not all about defending. There were good moves going forward and chances created.
With Mark Brown suspended Mike Fraser came in for only his second start and he had an excellent game – early stops gave him confidence and he had no chance with any of the goals. Teenage keeper Jonathon Smith took Fraser’s usual bench spot.
Russell Duncan was captain for the day to mark his 200th appearance since joining the club in the summer of 2001. The August 1-1 draw between the teams in Inverness was the last SPL point dropped by Celtic and they went into this game looking for a clean sweep over the other eleven teams. They succeeded but victory was only assured when the second goal went in.
The visitors pushed hard from the kick-off and nearly gave Celtic a fright in the second minute. Ross Tokely crossed from the right and Roy McBain had two shots blocked with Graham Bayne and Barry Wilson fighting hard to latch onto the rebounds – eventually it went over for a corner.
Mike Fraser was called into action in the fifth minute when Maciej Zurawski raced down the left and shot – the keeper parried it for a corner. Five minutes later Fraser dived to take a header from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. A long Fraser clearance in 14 minutes was headed down by Bayne for John Rankin but the midfielder was fouled 23 yards out. The free kick by Wilson was touched back to him by Rankin but his shot was held by Artur Boruc.
Bayne headed a Shunsuke Nakamura corner off the line in 21 minutes then a break upfield led to a cross from McBain which just eluded Craig Dargo. In 25 minutes there was an old fashioned stramash in the Caley Thistle goal following a header from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. It took Fraser plus two defenders to clear the danger at the third attempt. A minute later a Wilson corner from the left at the other end was headed back across goal by Grant Munro and a Bayne diving header looked in – in the event it slid just wide.
Fraser saved from Maloney and Boruc from Rankin before the opening goal came in 43 minutes. A Nakamura corner from the left was touched on by Zurawski and Darren Dods went for it along with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink – it skidded past Fraser and was credited as a Dods own goal.
Half Time: 1-0
This was a blow from which ICT really never recovered. Straight after the break Dods blocked a Maloney cross and the home fans claimed a hand was used. Kenny Clark was having none of it. Caley Thistle continued to give as good as they got until the 72nd minute when a second goal put the game beyond them. Paul Telfer played a clever one-two with Nakamura then crossed from the right - Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink slid in to net from eight yards out.
With ten minutes left Maloney tried one of his trademark free kicks from 25 yards out. It went over the wall and dropped just above the bar as Fraser could only watch. Goal number three came with five minutes left when Maloney sent a corner from the right and substitute Jiri Jarosik rose high to head into the top left corner. In added time Fraser held a Nakamura low shot and time was up.
Full Time: 3-0
The defeat took ICT back to seventh place with Celtic streets ahead at the top.
