Referee is pretty bad also. Interesting that Australia replaced keeper just before the end of ET. Ryan is apparently a better penalty stopper than the starting keeper. We shall see in the shootout. Winner to face Argentina or Cape Verde ... both of whom would likely win against them on today's performance. edit: didnt work for them, Egypt through on pens.

Have given up at 90 minutes in Australia vs Egypt. I don't care who goes through. They are both rubbish - at times it was like watching a school playground match.

Don't blame me for the VAR! ☹️ It certainly affected the game here in Toronto last night! Setting aside the VAR controversy, this game was the dream game for much of Toronto when people started working out the potential matchups for this fixture. There is a huge population of both Portuguese and Croatian descent in and around the Toronto area and from (Portuguese) drivers literally shutting down the highways to get a glimpse of the team bus heading from the airport to downtown, mobbing the team hotel (before and after the game) and the respective marches to the game from each set of supporters it was something pretty damn awesome! This kind of has a bit of everything ion the feed: https://www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/article/portugal-advances-to-world-cup-round-of-16-with-2-1-over-croatia-in-final-match-at-toronto-stadium-live-updates-here/ Absolutely, although, as you can tell, I prefer a good waffle with my maple syrup! Watching TFC is a roller-coaster of emotions and frustrations, and is, in many ways similar to supporting ICT but with added money (which they don't seem to use very well)! 100% - always long for that on my trips home. You just can't beat the heavily blackened top of what was once an edible pie, and waiting until 10 minutes into the second half to get it :) I do have to say though I am somewhat surprised that the SFA have not banned it as the top crust might be usable as a Scottish Ninja Star It's worse than that .... its Dingwall for you, my friend.

What a big sook or girls blouse, not sure which. PS..... take my remarks with a pinch of salt. PS 2.... that's me getting you back for saying I hit the ball like a " P##F at a golf outing many moons ago.😅

Scotty rabbits on rubbish most of the time, so don’t feel alone disagreeing about his crazy posts. I put it down to far too many maple syrup pancakes and watching a rich duff big city team with the trapping of privilege. Misses a tepid bovril and rock hard pie of a February mid week game I suspect! 🍁 (glass house bc)

Just when we thought we had seen the most ludicrous ever VAR decisions coming out from The Scottish Premiership, the World Cup said "hold my beer" and the SFA have been dropped down the rankings. I normally agree with Scotty on everything, but some of these decisions are absolutely baffling. I just don't know anymore. Please don't send me to the salt mines for disagreeing Scotty...

I have pre-ordered the strips for my four grandchildren and when I phoned the shop to check the size for my eldest who requires the small adult at age 13, the girl I spoke to said that the betting logo starts at adult medium. My grandson age 9 is disappointed that his will be different from the players🤣 They are expected to be in the shop sometime next week.

end of the day I am not a fan of betting logos on shirts, and I know we have previously turned down offers to sponsor this website from betting companies with one single exception. We did take on an offer from one firm to sponsor our betting forum for a short time based on the "offer being too good to refuse" and maybe that's the situation the club find itself in as they continue to rebuild from the brink of extinction. I would rather this type of gamble than the gambles the previous regime took!

The holding and shirt pulling may well start before the ball is in play but it usually continues well after the ball is back in play

It was noted on the commentary last night that FIFA has responded to North American media queries regarding the "clear and obvious" definition and received a response that it is "not the decision that we are aiming to reach". The decision we are looking for is based on "was it the correct call?". Overall, I think most of the VAR has been decent in this World Cup because its setup to be quick with semi-automated offside checks and other calls happening in seconds (so quick in some cases we may not even be aware it happened). I also like the quick check for a corner or goal kick and the speeding up of substitutions/throw-ins and goalkeeper throw/kick outs .... Unfortunately, however these positive tweaks will not trickle down as they are mostly "optional" and most leagues could not afford the costs that FIFA are throwing at the technology for this World Cup. I don't like it when it takes 2-3 minutes of studying the footage from all angles as that is - by definition - not clear and obvious, but as FIFA noted, that's not the benchmark they are using ... But by saying that it then opens up a whole different can of worms. As with VAR everywhere else, it is only as good as the officials behind the scenes and on the pitch and as others have said, that varies wildly in terms of consistency. If you are now saying the question is "Was this the correct call?" then you can look at so many incidents and ask that question. Even yesterday, that means Kane should have been booked for diving before saving their skins, and perhaps it is likely that Balogun would not have been red carded, and the USA penalty would not have been awarded - but that's all subjective. And let's not even go there on the inconsistencies in the Scotland Morocco game with the Uzbekistan ref and the worst MLS ref in the VAR booth!

They are ONLY allowed to review an attacking foul before the ball is in play IF it leads directly to a goal, penalty or disciplinary sanction. Have the attackers gained an advantage unfairly? They are NOT allowed to review defensive fouls before the ball is in play because... what would you award? The ball isn't in play. They are being consistent with the guidelines that they have been given, but you could well argue - as you have done - that the guidance itself is inconsistent. See https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ce8jv326d7vo , "World Cup 2026 new rules", and scroll down to "More VAR, and lots of it" .

It's the inconsistency that gets me. You have the officials spending time to see if there was any contact in incidents like Kane's last night or Tielemans' (which was given) and yet they refuse to get involved when players are holding opponents in bear hugs to stop them getting to the ball at set pieces.
-
World Cup
But that's not how they decided about the Kane dive last night. They decided that the referee had not made a "clear and obvious" error, and so they didn't overrule him. But it was also said that if he'd given a penalty, then, on the same grounds, they wouldn't have overruled him. In the short time available to them - which IS a good thing - VAR was inconclusive.
-
World Cup
Agreed, but when I see decisions like last night I live in hope that VAR can become a force for good in the game and continue to refuse penalties where the player is clearly on the way down before any contact is made, which would help drive it out of the game (especially in conjunction with yellow cards for the diver). Sadly, when you see former refs like Keith Hackett on X/Twitter saying it should have been a penalty you have to doubt that things will get better until the qulity of refs gets better and I won't hold my breath for that to happen.

Putting aside he singlehandedly saved England from a certain defeat tonight with two great striker goals (2nd one world class IMO), the art of conning a referee is now part of the ‘craft’ for just about every player without exception. L Sole and big Chanka were at it in just about every game they players last season, so while I would rather it is pulled up by the refs, it is now part and parcel of the game now. Apart from his two goals Kane was a die-vin git and would have been send off had a good upstanding Scottish referee umpired the match! 😃 bc PS The DRC would have gubbed us I feel !

I know what you mean about Ian Black !!!!! Just seems a bit of an oversight from a club that claims to be family and community minded, that the kids cant wear the same as the players, but your right , no real issue. I like the unbranded shirt better.

We don’t have it on the children’s shirts so I don’t see the issue there. Ian Black would say otherwise on betting…

You can’t say for sure they didn’t eat subway, can you?I can say for sure they can’t bet on football and can’t sell betting sponsor tops to children and players under 18 can’t wear them.
