  1. Past hour
  2. Desperate Stuff A dreadful game where we shared a goal apiece with almost relegated East Fife. We prevailed in the penalty shoot-out to earn the bonus point but the performance was not what was expected. I know I know it is usually a competition we use to fine tune our squad but we are a far cry from the finished article going by that performance. An absolutely honking performance mostly played at pre-season pace. The one bit of quality got us level in time added on, from a neat finish into the bottom corner by MacKinnon after good work down the left flank. Otherwise dreadful. Too many players looked as if they were still on a pre-season jolly with no apparent urgency on the job in hand. I've seen better stuff at the Hub over the last few weeks from under 12's. I don't know why I bother sometimes. Gaffney opened the scoring after the half hour in a dour uneventful game. A slack ball by Sole was transferred forward with the Fife forward player looking yards offside. Myles Gaffney knocked in with nobody near him. MacKinnon's goal was a good low curling effort from around 16 yards after two or three players were involved down the left side. Ross Munro made one good save in the penalty shoot-out as he saved the Fifers second spot kick. We put all five of ours away comfortably. Shinnie, Wotherspoon, Kargbo, Bates and Longstaff winning us the bonus point. In the other Group F fixture Linlithgow Rose pulled off a good win at Cappielow, defeating Morton 1-0 with a goal from Callum Rae early in the second half. We play the Rose next week at Prestonfield. We were not the only Championship side to struggle. As well as Morton going down, Dunfermline were pumped 3-0 at East Kilbride. Partick Thistle showed how it should be done by hammering Brechin City 6-0. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Date: 11/07/2026 Venue: Caledonian Stadium Attendance: **** Referee: Sean Murdoch Inverness CT: 1 Manager: Scott Kellacher Lineup: Munro; Macleod, Devine, Savage, Boutin (Bates 71), Sole (Kargbo 62), Allan (Wotherspoon 62), Stewart, Shinnie, Duncan (MacKinnon 85) Bavidge (Longstaff 62) Subs (not used): Ross; Clark, Keogh, Chalmers, Scorers: MacKinnon (90+1) Booked: Boutin (59), Bates(90+4) Sent Off: none East Fife: 1 Manager: Dick Campbell Lineup: Gaston; Wilson, Bah, Easton, Peggie, Slattery, Millar, Milne, Newton (Trialist B 81), Gaffney (Skeen-Hamilton 64), Ross (Austin 85) Subs (not used): Rollo; Linton, Healy, Fairley Scorers: Gaffney (34) Booked: Ross (24), Gaffney (59), Bah (74), Wilson (86) Sent Off: none
  3. Play, repeat !! bc
  4. A hydration break would have been more entertaining
  5. Today
  6. At least there were no hydration breaks.
  7. Dreadful performance at times with few players getting pass marks. Noah looked good at full back and generally the defence was sound. Allan and Shinnie okay in midfield. Bavidge got no service at all so surprised to see him subbed for Kargbo, who on first impression, looks worse than Zimba. Sole was very erratic but how Duncan stayed on as long as he did was baffling. Better with Wotherspoon and MacKinnon on. Baffling subs from Kellagher and tactically poor from him. Both the team and management needs to improve and quickly.
  8. Not our finest 90 minutes. We made a fast start but without troubling East Fife, then the game settled down with not much happening. A slack pass by Sole led to the East Fife goal, although from my view I’m convinced there was a clear offside in the build up. We had plenty possession but struggled to break East Fife down and needed a good finish by MacKinnon to get us a draw in stoppage time. Then the plus point: 5 out of 5 in the penalties with good efforts by Shinnie, Wotherspoon, Kargbo, Bates and Longstaff, along with a great save by Munro. We need to improve before the league campaign starts, and too often we played it slowly which played into East Fife’s hands. We did look better after Longstaff, Wotherspoon and MacKinnon came on. No cause for alarm but work to do.

  15. Terrible day to kick off our cup campaign. My son collected the new stripes for the grandchildren and the staff were busy getting the shop ready for today so bring your cards for merchandise. Let’s get a good start today and I will be starting the Player of the Year poll later for anyone who was at the game can vote on the forum.

  18. 38- year old Brian Easton and Andy Munro, 33, his defensive partner, both signed a new contract at the end of the season but aren’t mentioned there. Cammy Ross scored a barrowload for Bonnyrigg in the LL last season.
  19. League Cup - Season Opener The 2026/2027 competitive season kicks off with a home fixture in the Premier Sports Cup, group F. It's not an event we have put all our eggs in the one basket over the last few seasons but I'm sure we will give it a go. Group F consists of the Caley Jags along with Premiership St Johnstone, Championship Morton, League1 East Fife and Linlithgow Rose from the fifth tier in the Lowland League East. East Fife managed to avoid relegation from League1 last season including a hard fought 1-1 draw with the Caley Jags in the penultimate game of last season. Dick Campbell remains in charge. The loss of Michael Mackenna will be a blow to them but Mamadou Bah has signed a new deal at Bayview, as has David Wilson and Reis Peggie. The experienced Pat Slattery is also backalong with Liam Newton and Kieran Millar and in 38 year old Derek Gaston they have a vastly experienced man between the sticks. (see full list at foot of preview) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Match/Ticket/Bus/Info ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ***From the start of the 2026/27 season, the club will be operating a fully cashless/card only payment system at the Sarens PSG Stadium. New signings for this season are Graeme Shinnie, Noa Boutin, Ryan Duncan, Morgan Bates and Hamzad Kargbo along with the Alfie Twins back on loan from Aberdeen. Offski went Chanka Zimba, Oscar MacIntyre, Jake Davidson, Ross Millen and Mitchell Robertson. What a bonus it was to have the likes of Liam Sole, Remi Savage, Paul Allan and Luis Longstaff staying on and these guys will be crucial to our success this season in what will be as always a very tough Championship. 21. The point i am making - as BC seems confused on my earlier post - is that Balogun's card being suspended (which it should not have been once the decision was made) has made a mockery of every other red card whether it was deserved (like Quansah's), or whether it was deemed worthy of a review. This precedent (or should it be president) now gives anyone the ability to question almost any card and ask for it to be suspended rather than automatically applied and that is fundamentally wrong. The ref calls the red card, and at this level it goes to VAR. It's not 100% perfect, but it's what we have. It is upheld or overturned on the field. Decision made. End of story. Player knows he is out for the next game at a minimum. In the following days the disciplinary committee can look at it and determine the ref got it right or wrong. Again, not a perfect system, but it's what we have. They can choose to increase the automatic 1 game suspension (as they did with Quansah), or they drop it back to a yellow if they feel the ref got it wrong (which they didn't do in either case). However, the act of suspending a card is unheard of and let's be honest, was it on anyone's radar until this happened? Personally, I have never heard of this happening before at almost any level. Even the 1962 card for Garrincha, which is the only other example cited in almost 200 World Cup red cards, was not suspended, a ban was simply not imposed. At that time, there was no automatic suspension like there is now, but a disciplinary committee chose to issue a warning rather than a match suspension after alleged pressure from the country leaders of each team in the match. [full story here and its quite interesting: https://fansided.com/soccer/bribery-secret-calls-and-a-vanishing-witness-inside-world-cup-red-card-fifa-actually-reversed].
  22. Quansah went in studs first, his foot was halfway up shin level before he reached the ball, and if you can see his leg "bouncing" off the ball then you're a better man than I! One replay angle even suggests that he positively, actively planted his studs into the guy's leg - see at 0:17 in the video below. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/videos/cp8rrwk5624o
  23. I can't make head nor tail of it. Both were deserved red cards. Neither intended to do what happened. Both were "out of control". Both (unwittingly) endangered their opponent - Balogun turning over the ankle as he couldn't halt his momentum and Quansah's leg bouncing up off the top of ball. I really struggle to see how they can be viewed differently from a punishment perspective.

  26. Not a great video of the second goal. Not so much good free kick as bad defending and goalkeeping. ICT2-1.mp4
