Whilst looking through the Livilions website I found an interesting idea. I wanted to post this in the "what can we do to help" thread started by CaleyD but couldn't find it.

The Livi supporters trust has started a database of fans willing to help out at the club and the skills which they have.

In response to enquiries about starting a fans skills database, we would like to ask anyone wishing to put their names forward to help out at the club to do so via the Trust enquiries email - [email protected].

We will compile two lists -

1) VOLUNTEERS who simply want to help when they can and when needed, with a range of things such as handing out leaflets, manning a kiosk in the centre (if we can get that up and running), helping on matchdays, half-time activities, food kiosks, selling raffle tickets, clearing snow off the pitch (not in August surely!) . . . The list of possible tasks will be long and varied, and we'll try to nail that down over the next few weeks, taking Health and Safety requirements into consideration too. Please note that volunteering does not commit you to helping out every time you are asked - we hope to have a pool of people to call on from time to time.

2) Specific trades and professional SKILLS which you feel could be used by the club from time to time over the season, e.g. joiner, electrician, painter, etc.

You may feel you can add your name to both.

In your email please provide your name and contact details, especially phone and email address, plus which list (general volunteer or skills database) you wish to put your name forward for. If you are putting yourself into the skills database, please give a few words about which profession or skill you can offer the club. If you wish to be a general volunteer you may (not essential) wish to suggest an area or task you feel you would be particularly good at helping with.

Please note that this is early days for this initiative and we will need to spread the call and information wider than these forums, but we can make a start.

Should add that this database will not jeopardise the positions of the paid staff at the club, and is not being created as a replacement for the excellent work that already gets done by the hard-working staff we have.

I think that our own supporters trust might consider this as an option. Our club is in a fairly good state at the moment but every bit helps, every penny ICT can save through having volunteers help out can be redirected towards helping the club attain and maintain the highest possible level. There is no need to wait for a crisis before taking such actions, this way crisis's might be avoided.

Yep, no harm in giving it another bash though surely?

If there was some sort of database I could only see that organising something like painting the stadium would be easier, a rough idea of numbers available on certain dates would give a better chance of arranging everyone to get together at the same time. All it would take would be an email with three or four available choices of dates to see which one was most popular then an appeal to everyone who is not listed on the database could be published on the forum here to boost the numbers.

We did try to gather a database before for people to clear the pitch if it snowed, but again there wasn't much of an uptake.

We are actually about to launch an appeal for volunteers. The painting was cancelled as there weren't enough volunteers to complete the task in 1 weekend and we didn't think it was fair to ask people to give up any more time than that.

With the changes taking place we will be launching an appeal tomorrow for people who can help out, especially on match days.

Being a member of the Trust is about more than helping with painting and matchday stuff....the "Grunt Work" for want of a better description.

Projects need people to manage them, they need people to get on the phone and do organising, they need promoting and any number of other things. Some people will have these skills, some people will want to learn these skills and by working together everyone benefits.

How would I go about joining, the application form on the website is out of date.

You can just use the form that's on there for the new season.....and I'll add updating them to my "To Do" list.

Looks like I already updated the form.....just not changed the trust website.
