I thought Phil McGuire was going to USA some time this season and thats why he was playing at a club in the highland league and now he has signed for Abroath

Did he go to the USA and it not work out?

MLS season doesnt start until the end of this month so it seems unlikely.

Most teams are in the middle of pre-season right now and have had plenty of trialists during the last month or so but if he was over, he might have found them unwilling to use a coveted "senior international" roster slot on a player who wasnt head and shoulders above anything they could find in an American/Canadian player who would be classed as a "domestic".

He had a 1 year contract at Formartine, but it was cancelled in January (probably a "mutual consent" thing) and he has been a free agent since then.

It was certainly reported when he signed for them that he was hoping to move to the USA. If Formartine was his stepping stone, he appears to have slipped off it.

Maybe he's found his true level?
