SPL Week 1

I don't expect them to win but that's a pretty tough team Aberdeen have got out there. Leaps and bounds what they had last year. Not too many changes really but improved in crucial areas with a bit of quality in Naysmith, Anderson (he was only there in spirit last year), McGinn and Hayes.

If we finish a point below the Dons this year, we'll be doing well.

We're now a point above them

I don't think they had a shot on goal yesterday despite all the new signings.

Hayes will win them a couple games as he did us but a midfeild of Rae, milsom, jack, would get demolished by draper, otj and foran. From what I seen yesterday the signing of draper means we will control a lot more games this year.

Aberdeen have real quality throughout the side and will easily finish top 6 this season . Why did I agree to £50 wagers on our games with them this season with my sheep worrying pal ? Must have been the bevvy :furtive:

I also have a £10 bet on with a work colleague that Aberdeen won't finish in the top six. I agree that's they've possibly made the best summer signings but, like ourselves (in my opinion) are missing a striker who will score them 20+ goals which I think they'll need. In terms of other teams, did anyone watch the Dundee Utd Hibs game today? Hibs were dreadful!

Got to remember, Aberdeen were at Celtic Park yesterday. Broon's a cagey guy. A 0-0 away to the champs would have been right up his street. Vernon will score a few goals but he was used to dampen down the Celt's right-wing and get a follow-up from McGinn. Alex Ferguson has done the same thing when with Scotland. I'd expect Vernon supported by Hayes and McGinn to get a few goals.

It was designed for a 0-0 draw and should have been.

I thought, and maybe they will, Hibs would have bought more. Calderwood drained the life out of them and they need a big revamp. They have the money in the bank. Then again, I'm not too sure there will be relegation this year.

Can DU mount a challenge? I don't think so. Celtic will win virtually every game. DU will be the toughest of the rest but don't have the players or budget to guarantee wins.

Exciting start though.

On the basis of 1 game, Celtic will win league by 30-40 points, and may even go unbeaten in the league.

Arabs will be the best of the rest, top 6 will also have Hearts, and Motherwell.

Battling the bottom will be Hibees, Dundee, St J, St M and Killie. That leaves ourselves, county and dons somewhere in between. If county manage to get points early they will be fine, but if they find themselves with only 2 or 3 points after 5 - 6 games they might add to the battlers.

Week 1 only but Hibs look as if they may be continuing with last season's form....
