Coping in the Championship

After last night's fantastic win I was thinking ahead (hopefully not tempting fate) to playing in the Championship next season. I know there are still 11 games left including away trips to Stenny and Alloa but lets just make that assumption for now.

We've picked up an away "point" at Partick in 2nd and an away win at Ayr in 4th. I know these are cup games with a different mindset but we still got the results, and with a much changed team last night to boot. Also (ignoring the 15 point penalty) we were only 6 points behind last season's League 1 champions Arbroath who currently sit in 3rd (well clear of Ayr as we speak).

All this leads me to think that (depending on player transfers in and out) we are well equipped to cope in the Championship and finish in the top half. Is this just the euphoria of reaching a cup final blurring the reality?

I think it's too soon for us to be thinking of that. I nearly wrote before last night's game that it, and the Partick tie, would give Kells & co a good idea of how we might fare in the Championship, should we get there. But then I decided not to. As the bloke on Alba said last night, in football, "should" is a big word.

As you say, it would be very dependent on what our squad is like. I'm sure Kells will have that not too far back in his mind, but 5 points ahead with 33 at stake is nothing. Just ask any Arsenal supporter.

Ask me again in a month's time lol

Watching last night's game on Alba I was impressed by how well we outplayed Ayr for the majority of the game.

Not so sure if we currently have the tools to gain promotion from the Championship but we will certainly be able to compete at Championship level and will not be out of our depth.

I think it's a bit too soon for that. Although, I would say looking at our performances it is certainly looking likely that we could achieve a mid-table finish. That's as long as Sole can keep himself on the pitch ... that is. What was he thinking? You don't go throwing your head about 2-1 up against a team from the division above with 5 minutes left to play.

Currently playing every league game in 3rd gear, it's nice to see a performance like last night as an indicator of progress.

I'm sure we could cope if we can keep/sign the right players, although I'd expect the workload to take more of a toll than we are currently exposed to.
