  6. Hi Jock

As you may well know "Hackey"  is the favorite sport in Canada. And I have just witnessed a tremendous game  for the world cup between Russia  and Canada , needless to say the Canadians won the cup in the final in a best of 3 game plan. Boy can they skate...faster than a speeding bullet and faster at turning on a dime than a ballet dancer. Aye!

Onyhoo, since you are 6 years older than me and I am fond of  older fellas 'cos they remind me of my youthful appearance,  I thought I would just send you a  wee note to cheer you up.

Seriously, does it get any easier as you age? Certainly not for me ..after retirement my tendency has been  to go to seed and a lot of pain in the body   from too much sitting around. So, after this, I am going fro a wee nap followed by a 6 mile jaunt on the indoor bike which invariably  perks me up and gets the blood flowing again. Wee willie likes it too since that gets him ready for his annual action,

    Cheers Rod (aka S.P.)

  7. Interesting name you have Rhoda. My name is Scarlet Pimple but in real life my mother was also named MacBean and my actual last name is Rhodes. So you will be able to see the similarities. I was born in Inverness in 1938 so please say ..."you must be an oldie but Goodie" for me.  Smile.
Now,mother  lived with my 3 uncles in Rose Cottage  in Culcabock together with my Grandmother right next to King Duncan's well,  an area you may know. Then she met my father Thomas Henry (Harry) Rhodes who was born in Yorkshire and he settled in Inverness and became a business man.

I am very curious as to whether this resonates with you at all? According to research done by my cousin in America after she came over to Scotland to visit all the churches around to examine their records of births, marriages and deaths, she produced a genealogical record of our forbears on the MacBean side which , believe it or not, indicates that my side of the family is directly descended from the chiefs. The current MacBean chief is located in the U.S. and I have compared his geneaologic records from his website and they co-incide with ours. His site is not a bad one at all and many of his statements regarding the clan, forbears etc. are correct and accurate.

So, there you are, today's surprise contact for you. Have  a great day from beautiful British Columbia , Canada,

    Roderick

  10. Neither did I Jock! Good comment and a very interesting picture.
  11. http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37522482 Neil Le-nnon gives his view on the corruption comparison between English and Scottish football. i.e He is saying lean on me for an honest and factual statement. I have never allowed myself to become involved with player negotiations and such and have never been approached to become involved in such arrangements under the table in return for huge bribes.
  12. Yes and the new stand that Aberdeen seem to have decided to start building shortly is certainly not designed to assist in packing in anything like 45,000 into their ground. More like 20,000 or just above it as far as I can remember from a couple of articles I had read. If this is correct it's a realistic commentary on what the situation is in the premiership for the more favoured teams these days, excluding of course the old firm gates.

  15. Hi IHE

I have just been reading the thread about crowd figures being published and remember that I sent you a message a few days ago asking if you knew the crowd at the recent game, since, for some reason I just couldn't find it showing anywhere, not even on the SPL site. I always check this since it keeps my spirit uplifted if the crowd is up because we desperately need a the money to survive.

To date you haven't replied and I kind of wondered why not i.e. - assuming that we are still on good terms are we not?

One of my thread responses hasn't up-set you by any chance has it? I never hurt anyone deliberately so just making strange and bizarre remarks only means that I am either bored in retirement or just trying to lighten the load by reminding myself that time is passing and  there is far too much viciousness and grief in the world at this time to remain very serious for long. If you did you would go mental. Like ******* Basher Al Assad killing children for fun and agreeing with Russians  bombing humanitarian lorries and aid workers.

Talk soon I hope. Kind regards Itchy..

    Auld S.P. at your service.

I thought that I had replied. It was 6181 which probably included at least 2000 Cellic. NOTHING upsets me !!

  16. If general revenue is not high, whereas wages are higher than the club would hope, then the financial situation within the club can't be balanced. And so reducing prices may be a stiff challenge that the prudent Board may be very reluctant to implement but what other course is available to them. All things considered it does seem as if the club in general is trying very hard to promote the club by various means already, so....? Personally, I think that the club has few options other than to reduce prices for a specific period of at least 6 weeks, which will hopefully increase the crowd numbers thus exposing new fans to seeing how interesting the product on the park is. Otherwise, if they don't come to games, how will they ever become dedicated fans? And so, as the rule of business thumb is in similar situations more often than not, reduce prices an/or give incentives to get them in the door otherwise they may not become regular clients. From my pensioners' point of view and converting pounds into Canadian dollars, at this point I could not afford to attend every week because the cost of living is very high as it seems to be in Scotland.. House prices now in Vancouver are utterly ridiculous, groceries going higher and higher every week and so on. Money also has to be set aside monthly to cover such items as insurance for two cars, home insurance again up this year and now $600 extra per year for earthquake insurance which is separate from the home payment with us living in the Pacific North West where the "BIG ONE" is expected any day, and very high property taxes also have to be set aside on a monthly basis. Not to mention this does not cover future expense requirements such as a holiday or roof renewals and general repairs etc. So I sincerely believe it's a money issue as much as anything.
  17. Posting.
  18. Looks as if the folks will come out to the big matches, such as the Celtic game, but are reluctant to spend the money for the "lesser" matches week in week out? With the team now performing admirably what other reason can there be for not showing up?
  19. I like PerfICT's award of 9 to Richie Foran. Seems that he rarely gets appropiate praise for the taking over of a team in real transition and it could have turned out to be a shambles right from the get-go. Now we are seeing the other side of the coin--stability and success. Despite obviously nervous moments in view of his lack of Managerial experience, he speaks very well and thoughtfully on camera. He may turn out to be an inspired appointment who can really go places as we move right along. .
