Disgrace that is the Ferry of today
Scarlet Pimple replied to IMMORTAL HOWDEN ENDER's topic in Olde Inverness
It's just that I thought you looked rather "bookish" that's all. -
Looks like Raven was not ravin'. As previously remarked, he has also found that the "grass is always greener over the fence. But stability is underrated. It can lead to greater forward movement when a player's reputation grows by sticking by what works for him and his club and this is clear evidence that he can be relied upon as a "stayer". That's not to say that moving on to try to improve your life's position is a negative thing--far from it. If your career and yourself has become stifled, and seems to have few opportunities open for future progression to a more challenging job or situation, then moving on is a very good move to carefully consider. It opens up fresh pastures and opportunities for growth, leads to the possibility of the making of new contacts which can benefit you in may ways and allows you to put past mistakes behind you, thus encouraging you to make different choices. IMHO, It's all about growth and self fulfillment and there's no doubt, as seen from my personal standpoint, that moving when it is time to is not just an optional way to go but is imperative to future mental, physical health an spiritual health growth. Staying put can lead to negative consequences in your life which may be hard to recover from. A very wise person once said to me that if I got into a situation where the other party or parties did not think the same way as I did then that was the time to move on -i.e away from them.

Well, as has been said before .."The grass is always greener over the fence". From a club's point of view, it's far better for them to simply do the best deal for their own players and then also do their best to further their training and knowledge. Then, when the player thinks it is time to leave, continue to try to maintain the best of relations by assisting them in their new adventure. That way, if things don't work out at that player's new club and, like Tansey, they decide to come back they know that they are always welcome and should be motivated to try harder. Not to mention that ,when they leave, they are far more likely to speak well of their old club as they move around in other clubs and leagues. Which does ICT no harm whatsoever and might encourage a very good player to consider ICT as worth a try in the future .

A very thoughtful Charlie B..in an Academy jacket reminiscing about the chocolate bars of his youth. Very fetching picture though of an intellectual amongst us. -
Re the OP-large oak trees grow from little acorns. He will stay and develop into a long time regular poster probably.

This thread has become too complicated for me. As I remember, I was not into chocolate bars since they were few and far between during the 2nd world war years of 1940 to 1945.But the occasional ice cream cone off the barrow that trundled down the street with bells ringing were enough to put me into a state of feverish excitement. Mind you, in them thar days, the taste of real ice cream was far superior to what they call ice cream nowadays, most of which still DOES come hidden inside a chocolate coating anyway. And , believe it or not, running out the front door to stand at the kiosk on wheels to hand over my few pennies and then be handed this gorgeous -looking cone was part of the overall thrill of this simple event in the heart and mind of a very young lad.

Charles--maybe Scarlet was just not thinking. But now I do remember the name Ethel Forbes. That was her. When I look at these pupils and admire how clean-cut and smart they were and compare them to the youngsters that I see nowadays, I realize that I must either learn to move on and stop reminiscing about what the world might have been had things not changed so radically or just accept that I am old-fashioned fella and the world will never be the same again. At the same time there was something altogether innocent and wholesome about our lives in these days and I do see that reflected in the uncomplicated expressions on the faces of these prefects. I had better stop whilst I am ahead . -

D J MacDonald does look younger than I remember him. But the relative awe in which a 12-16 year old boy would have reegarded him at that age would probably instill in my memory a more austere portrait of the gentleman. He was a stern man but not unfair as I recall. Mrs Forbes taught either French r Latin...is that correct, the former I think. Well regarded throughout the school. I seem to know the face of the boy in the bottom row, second from the left. If his name was or is Brian then please tell me because he looks awfully like a very bright lad that I knew fairly well in the Law Department of the Head Office of the Royal Bank of Scotland when I was there later on in my banking career, before I emigrated to Canada. Brian was an easy person to like, genuine to a fault and always a ready smile on his physiognomy and always willing to stop in the passageways and have a chat. IHE that is a fantastic photo and I thank you for posting it up here. But the bad news is ...."boy oh boy, does the old memory dim with age!". -
If I remember correctly, Torquil was in the Academy as a pupil (or was it a teacher, ha! ?) when I first went there at the age of 12 i.e 1950. Would that be correct Charles? Whatever, the name is very familiar, maybe because it was mentioned as an acquaintance of my sister and her pals who also started there 3 years prior to my entry.

OMG Charles, sometimes I feel a wee bit sorry for you since some of your posts lately seem to be ranter -driven and bitter and twisted rather than calm and flexible. What kind of bee do you have in your bonnet this time? Bumble it must be 'cos there aint no HUMBLE there at all. Recently, ever post reflects the pain of every sting your special brand of bumble has afflicted you with. Remember the fine words addressed to one S. Pimple when he fired an ex employee for not dong the work to which he was assigned and paid to do, (accompanied by a few choice words) and he was told by this younger person that "you get more with honey than with vinegar." To which a frothing Pimple croaked in reply ..." There's the door over there . Shut it on the way out." As for your caustic views on Oddquine, I am very sorry to tell you that, in comparison with yours, her views are eminently logical , cogent and TRUTHFUl and never occasion shock and awe in me. When she does her research she doesn't need a whisky bottle or a hot water bottle at her bedside because her lucid and fair mind grabs the facts as they are spoken and transfers them accurately onto paper. And what she digs up is amazing stuff. Amazing, Sir , Amazing. Just as I have explained why, financial benefit accrues to the Scottish banks by maintaining a Fiduciary issue but there is also no doubt in my mind that part of the reason that they do this is also to continue a Scottish presence in the banking markets of the world and reminding all and sundry that Scottish banks were, to the best of my knowledge, first on the banking scene here in Britain a long time ago and always have , in the past, been successful, often revered for their canniness and common sense etc., and a powerful influence and helper to the business world here and abroad.. Even if the RBS is now a disgraceful shadow of the honest, integrity-afflicted and down to earth former RBS Institution they still have immense power and wealth at their finger tips. Their contacts are still the very Wealthy (e.g. the Queen and her Mama, the Marquis of Bath, The Duke of Westminster, blah, blah) - and all these clients have their accounts at Drummonds branch at the top of Whitehall at Trafalgar Square and their influence in the financial structure of Britain and abroad cannot be downplayed. So, to suggest that the uneducated (not their fault of course) and the uncouth and untutored masses don't know the difference between an English pound and a Scottish pound then life must still go on Charley Lad. The independent Scotsmen of our time have every right to their delusions of grandeur --just as every deluded journalist should be allowed to express himself even if that on the odd occasion allows for a conflict of the facts, an unwillingness to accept the factoids presented in Technicolor to him or her and an inability to listen very carefully to truths that speak for themselves. Now where's mah wee drammie of Toddie--probably cold by now fer goodness sake. OCH------! -

Oddquine, thank goodness for your industrious approach to things. This way with all your gen to back me up I can keep Charles under control although, to be quite frank,I still don't know what his point is. Quebec, Charles. is over 2,000 miles from the Vancouver area where I live. And Manitoba is also about half that distance from me also. And, as I explained in my post, when the RBS issues their fiduciary issue in Scottish RBS banknotes, they save themselves the cost of buying B.of E notes to serve the same purpose. One thing is certain, when I used to get in to Telford Street for six pence when I was about 13 or 14 I shudder to think of what it would cost a wee boy to get in now. And that was always standing for me not sitting.Yep, pards, the times they keep a'changin. -

Nice to note that Raven wasn't backwards but NEVAR put a foot wrong . I liked Chinos' post. I note you are supposed to "not have made any friends yet" on your profile but, with a positive post like that, it won't be long before you do! It's Interesting also how people see things so differently from time to time. -

But CB--so long as my memory serves me, the Fiduciary Issue is the amount that the banks in Scotland can issue Scottish Bank notes as valid currency without having to purchase B of E notes as cover. This way they make , or save, money. Above that limit they have to have cover but I can't exactly remember in what form this must take--it's 40 years since I lived in Scotland! But they will have to make some type of deposit in the B of E as surety. I think they have to buy B of E notes up to the amount they decide to issue as Scottish bank notes. -

That's really interesting since the Fiduciary issue of Scottish Banks (as you describe as being fully covered etc) is legal tender in Britain. I think that if Cameron and Co try to bypass that then a legal challenge could kill off his political career. Would the mighty Royal Bank of Scotland allow him to get away with that? -

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/30317051 Hearn says self-pity, poor belief in ourselves together with a lack of promotion of our game, plus lack of alcohol and dithering on whether or not to go over to Summer football, is severely holding back Scorttish football. Since I agree wholeheartedly, with some reservations about the re-introduction of alcohol to the terraces, I will not say another word . This article is explicit and is a very good start to implementation of programmes. He does declare that standing is now allowed throughout the game but local authorities are holding back on the issuance of certificates to allow this and so .........?

Agree with all posters on this one. .100%. So, will it change? I think not . Dear Varlet, The times they are a-changing and yonder referee knoweth best which side his bread is buttered thereon. Dost thou not presenteth me with fripperies like video. -- Leave all such matters to the future, way over yonder hill. Egad and Forsooth-- what is this game all about anyway if it is to lose it's magic like hacking and cracking, tripping and cheating, ref roasting, crying the blues , simulation and exaggeration, stealthy fouling and elimination of pussies and cissies. EH? -
