Who on earth can be serious around you IHE.? You are a narcissistic, brilliant show off. One of these very eccentric but very wealthy entrepreneurs from long ago, an American, built a huge dream seaplane and flew it a few feet off the ground in New York Harbour and named it the Flying Goose or the Sea Goose or something? What was his name again....it's on the tip of my tongue but that's now controlled by Mr Al Zheimer. There we go: It's here: http://www.historytoday.com/ian-fitzgerald/maiden-flight-spruce-goose It was in fact a long lost relative of John Hughes 'cos his name was Howard Hughes. But there are no eccentrics in Canada to match that by calling something the "Flying Moose".:- So........ "The Flying Goose one time got loose and flew to Kessock Ferry He bribed the Captain who then agreed to attach a tow line to the "Eileen Dubh" and drag him across to County Derry "Hullo.Hullo" cooed the Harbour Master sitting smoking his pipe He bribed the Master who thereupon then turned down one pound fifty p. and said" That's a load of tripe" "If I accept that " he rumbled " The boss will nae gie me anither stripe." So they splt the bribe and aff they went intae the nearest pub. Therein sat IHE with a thirsty leer upon his face just sitting there on a tub "Youse yins buying then?" he quips, all cocky like So the Maister put doon his pipe and swatted him with a spike. "Oh, that wiz nasty, ah really didna like it" Says IHE, pickin himself up aff the flair Tae heck with this, it's nae ma gig, so a'm aff tae sleep it aff in mah lair Can wan oh youse yins haud yer wheesht fur jus' a minute an' just gie me a haun up the stair?" "O.K". The captain says . "Ah'm sorry I hit yese sae hard. But when ah meet a wee nyaff who get's mah goat an all It disnae sit sae weil wi' me at all so ah gets lyrical, like, and' turn intae the BARD So here's mah haun , just shake it well and then yese can ring mah bell by slipping in anither bawbee and we'll finish it and ah promise ah willnae tell Yer Mammy, 'Cos I met her years ago and ah hiv tae say she wiz really nice and made me a bowlie of rice. That wiz mah meal and this is the end of mah speil so ah think ye should get back tae Inverness So ah can drink the remains of yer beer and get back hame afore mah wifie tells me ah'm a mess. "Cos ah tend tae shoot frae the hip and mah conshinsh is gi'ing me jip , I must now confess. Farewell , dear mariner, speed yonnie boatie and on yer way afore ye become a floatie. -
Well, this Article is for you! A likely lad or a likely lass. With ambition, not afraid of hard work, get along with people and are willing to qualify yourself in whichever way is necessary to satisfy the requirements of your selected job and employer. You don't even have to be qualified in any field to have your request for employment looked at with interest.,,as is clearly stated in the article. But you do have to be willing to be flexible, adaptable, and be willing to listen and learn. http://www.bbc.com/capital/story/20140430-need-work-think-canadian-energy It's the best article on job seeking, securing and developing a career in a highly-paid and emotionally satisfying work environment here in present-day Canada that I have ever read? Why? Because every paragraph resonates with truth and satisfies my acutely developed sense of what is correct and accurate as it pertains to this country in which I have now dwelt for over 40 years. e.g the references to the burgeoning field of LNG , Liquid Natural Gas, is spot-on. In B.C. the current Premier is busting her gut in attempting to get the industry started up North and there is a very high probability of success. In northern British Columbia here on the coast, and in Northern Alberta our next door Province neighbor, there are very high-paying jobs available in oil rigs. In Alberta they are crying out for workers to operate in the tar-sands projects which are not going to go bust or go away any time soon since the money they spew out is incredible. An oil refinery is mooted for north eastern B.C. which will take 3 years to build and which will spawn thousands of jobs both in its construction and to operate the refinery after completion. So, if you are bored with your employment, realize that your position is a dead end, or the boss doesn't like you and you have the distinct feeling that there really is no future there, I can suggest that you make a move. The race goes to the swift not the moribund or the laggards. The population of Canada is only 35,000,000 or thereabouts--imagine that in the second largest country in the world and you can see what opportunities are available for those who are willing to take a chance. This is now a very multi-cultural country where what you can do and how you can get along with people is more important than what you look like or where you come from. If you ask someone where they come from , meaning what overseas place, you might get a big surprise if they say Burnaby, which is a local Municipality here in B.C. I have two stepsons aged 28 and 35. Vitaly and Yuri came here some 14 years ago and did not speak a word of English. Now they speak fluent English without a trace of an any accent and read and write reasonably well. VItaly took courses and qualified as a senior cook, as a computer graphic artist and now has done very well as a professional welder and is in charge of q welding shop some 60 mil4es from where we live in Maple Ridge, B.C. He is continually studying to upgrade his welding expertise and I keep telling him to go to the Tar Sands, or up north, and come back in three to four years with a huge amount of money in his pocket. I also could have got him into the shipbuilding of Federal Government vessels in North Vancouver district for the twenty year contract about to start there through a man who lives just down the road from us who is a foreman painter in the docks there and said he knew the project boss!! I know he has a goof future ahead of him and lives in a very nice part of the Province. Yuri is a mastermind when it comes to anything mechanical electrical, woodworking or plumbing. . Having started playing with tools as young kid in Ukraine he was ably taught by his grandfather from an early age and is now a foreman of an auto body shop, has just bought a $50,000 GMC large pick-up truck, has rebuilt his mobile home and does all his own work. In other words he will never be short of money because people love to use his skills in any project hey need him for --includig me. The difference being that I now pay him for his labour and cost of materials. Sigh! Reason? Because he is so busy that I have to make an appointment and or grovel to get projects done that my arthritic hands can no longer handle... If you are caught up in the old boy/girl network, can only see promotion on the horizon if you wait for "dead men's shoes" or are very restless and unfulfilled, or just know that a change is as good as a rest, then you probably have the following options: 1. Make your mind up and determine your own self-directed course of action. 2. Contact Canada House in London and start to express enthusiastic interest in emigrating--don't allow them to put you off, pester them if necessary! 3. Send me a P.M. and we can talk. 4. Examine your qualifications and consider whether they may be strong enough to present as an option for you to continue in your current employment if you like it or think about a change of career where you use skills you may think you have but have never really employed before as a means of survival or as a career. Once you get into Canada and make some good money then your options also change for the better. 5 Re-read the above article carefully and even write to one of the Company references mentioned in it , such as Packers I think he said. If you do contact a Canadian company, format your letter in a very positive way, expressing your willingness to listen and learn, your adaptability and ambition to master another trade etc. 6. Start searching online for job opportunities in Canada and contact people. The worst thing is to become discouraged because you just never know what conversations with others will lead to. Anyway, hope that you enjoy the article and reflect on the information and wisdom it hands out. Kind regards to all --great win today.eh?

I also highly recommend the video from the selection shown at the end of this video which is headed "learn to fly" . This gives a tour of the inside of the cockpit of a Canadian F18 Hornet fighter with the pilot who has a French accent who then takes us up for a flight and you can see how hard he has to work, even as a very highly trained and experienced professional. The camera is situated just behind the pilot and captures it all --I am wondering if anyone can tell me why he looks up to his right and left frequently. Stunning experience though. Don't miss this one. Every little boy and girkl who ever wanted to be a pilot when he or she grew up will realize what their dream would have brought them. -
Abbotsford B.C., Canada, is situated in the Fraser Valley about 70 Kilometers East of Vancouver which is situated on the Pacific Coast. It's the annual venue for the Air Show and is usually spectacular and attracts a crowd of over 100,000. It's no longer just a few dollars to gain entry to the field but things are expensive these days : This year the featured team on this video is not the U.S. Blue Angels, which are peerless, but the home boys , the Snowbirds, who put on a fantastic precision flying demonstration. A year or so ago one of our pilots was killed in the States during a demonstration like this so these events are incredible to see but always carry a very high risk of disaster. This video also features some aircraft that some of you may have never seen before such as the U.S. PF51 which was the best fighter during the 2nd W.War and literally saved our bacon when it was introduced later on in the conflict. It is a rough and rugged plane which was superior in speed to any fighter aircraft that the Germans could field at that stage of the war. This is a very pretty airport and the flying is done against a backdrop of mountains in the Faser River valley. The river starts 1200 miles to the North in B.C. and exits into the Pacific at Vancouver. The snow-covered round-topped mountain you will see in the background is Mount Baker, a non-active volcano, which is actually just over the border in The United States and non -varied terrain is more or less what you see and so was a little boring on the day. It's about 75 miles from Vancouver , like the airport, so it's not a favorite destination for me. Here we go :

so I don't remember him...smile! To sum up: - to be quite honest it probably was the best thing that happened to me at that age because it opened me up and broadened my horizons and self-confidence. Then they did away with it which was good for their bottom line but not good for the youth of Britain who since then probably have never been subjected to much discipline and training like that. Per ardua ad astra , eh Bughtie?

Yes, IBM, I do remember the recoil on the .303 which I had been told to expect and to hold on tight so I did whit ah wuz telt an' all. I can't say that I didn't enjoy it altogether: I got away from home and to learn to stand on my own feet which I relished. I was also posted to England and then to Germany which was an experience although our mingling with the population was very minimal indeed. Mostly because the local town was quite a ways away and we didn't have any money in our pockets anyway; so ...go figure. It wasn't really a hard experience because once you were posted to your regular air force base then regimentation was very minimal. I can't remember on parade that we had to do. But the thought of enlisting after the end of our two years was rarely seen as an option, or even desirable in anyway, for the majority of us lads at that time. On my home station in North Germany we did have a swimming pool on the base which we enjoyed diving into in the darkness and moonlight after midnight in the summer. Otherwise it was sleep go on duty, return to base and study for your future career or go and have a game of snooker in the NAAFI etc. No women around though until the local town had a Schutzenfest (shooting festival) or something like it. Then the locals welcomed you because you bought their beer and the young girls in the town also found us somewhat intriguing which was a mutual feeling although it never led to anything other than a wee dance since us youngsters at the time were every innocent and chaste. Bughtmaster claims he ,met me at an inter base soccer match on our airfield at that time and I doi remember meeting up with some h=guy who was better looking than me bu

Geez. Scotty-- at that price is it in Technicolor or illuminated by strip lighting? Goodness, what a shocker. I think you will need to think seriously about coming out to Vancouver where the house prices start at $850,000 for an old 3 bedroom detached residence in the city -- which is the reason I moved out to Maple Ridge-- the rain rarely stops in the winter but heat waves are now common in the Summer and the beaches are and the skiing and sports is ...OUTSTANDING. If these images don't turn your crank then ..nothing will. https://www.google.ca/search?q=vancouver+b.c.%2Fimages&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&ie=&oe=&rlz=&gfe_rd=cr&ei=5chaVLjYOcuV8Qf6-oFo&gws_rd=ssl

Sneckboy--nooooo! Who would have thunk it? Did I say that the reference was about our fine new manager?....eh? For me there is only one John Hughes and other invebntions are surplus to requirements. The main point about this video re Pat Stanto is that -
Charles I don't think you would fit in too well here in Canada. Why? Cos the CBC,(Canadian Broadcasting Corp) , who preen their feathers regularly by calling themselves the premier broadcasting unit in the country, feel it is necessary to put cute phraseology on the English language just to make it spound what used to be called "mod" but now probably just modern cute.. Like "Take a listen " or "Have a listen": when listen in this context (according to the oxford English Dictionary) is an adverb not a noun. Other manipulations for effect are now ignored by yours truly in honour of Mr C.B. because I know darn well that if I send them an e.mail they will ignore it completely. Or they might send me a nasty email advising that I take a powder, a hot shower , Horlicks or Viagra to get mah jollies.

National Service--6 months training and then 18 months of relative boredom or trying to sleep on an airfield in Germany when the U.S. Super Sabre jets were taking off for night flying. The racket was just incredible. Like thunderclaps all around you.Help, murder, polis. Or spending half your life underground or not having the price of a cup of coffee in the NAAFI--Or getting 7 guineas evey two weeks for pay? For the younger lads:- a guinea is one pound and one shilling. Passing rich, like. Oh but in training they taught us how to shoot .22's and then .303's--does that count?

In this video that I have just posted above, go to minute number 21 and wait a few seconds. It's about our manager!! You will hear him talk about the time that "Big John MacNamee was going over to kick JOHN HUGHES and they tried to get a hold of him. This is hilarious........ when MacNamee kicks the Celtic dugout walls and they disintegrate.....ha! Ha! Ha! -

You certainly did Mantis. And what a fantastic job you did of them. Lads and lasses -if you want to open these links you will see the terracings packed, some great football, great atmosphere and the inimitable Pat Stanton controlling things seemingly effortlessly through the middle. Remember he was a left half but more often than not he was in the thick of things near the goals. As a younger player :- Here's one to make you think as well..." Strangely enough they put me on the left to fill a hole and here I was only yards from (the great) Gordon Smith. I looked at him and he looked at me and smiled and my knees turned to jelly." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_EtVGXbVdo Now, as a man over 60, he has a fantastic sense of humor and in the first video, at the meeting, he has the fans rolling around. in raucous laughter. Me too, the tears were rolling down my cheeks as he reminisced. Thanks Mantis, you have made my day. -
Life Boys 1st Company, then the BB's, followed by the Air Cadets who kindly took me up in an old Anson for my first flight from the tarmac at Dalcross. Fond memories actually. Then straight into the RAF for my 2 years stint National Service.

A positive post from Doofers Dad--positivity in action. Yessss!

Be careful Alex...many a word spoken in jest, et al. I hae mah doots about Richie coming back in early course. His injury is in the worst body part possible and he might just consider retirement into management to be a strategically- blessed move in view of his age as well. Then I think he might turn out to be a very useful manager away from ICT because ah also hae mah doots that any place will be available to him at Tulloch .

Would love to see photies mantis? With Stanton I can only say that he more often than not looked as if he was on skates on smooth ice in the National Hockey League, just flowing through the game. Apart, perhaps, from Edie Turnbull, Pat Stanton was the only Hibs player that I really remember by name which speaks to the impression he left on me I guess.. There you go......another little bit of back talk from the Workers Compensation Board. -
No! You mean THE Jimmie Pines? Wasn't he the lad who had a dirty reputation for fouls? And he had red hair did he not? Ah the memories flood back.... and now I am beginning to PINE for the auld days of yore.

Meekings on 100 appearances. Wow! He sure is meeking progress.

I saw the Manchester United versus Chelsea match on T V . A lot of huffing and puffing without much excitement and clever passing across the park frankly but with few goals. Passing around (including back to the goalie which I generally abhor) but no obvious passionate desire to get the ball forward as fast as possible. The games I just saw on the Scottish highlights today are much more exciting than these English games. Maybe not all of the Premier League teams perhaps but a good number. As I said earlier, more effort, loads of footie skill on display in our Premiership, great pace and fantastic goals. You've got it made chums.
-
The players were fitter than those of Celtic I imagine to be able to mount such pressure at the end against them. Any opposing views about that? One mistake leading to an advantage to the Celtic players on the ball to allow them to quickly scoot upfeild and score..Pretty tough break, but a very meritorious performance, apparently, overall. Big crowd there at 42,000. Whew! wouldn't it be nice if we could get a bumper crowd like that just once?.

What position would be acceptable this season
Scarlet Pimple replied to gordieict's topic in Caley Thistle
Calibre of players ? Well, there is no doubt about that but, after enjoying all the videos of the other games, a I am gobsmacked at the talent and effort on display. I can't imagine what anyone is complaining about as an excuse to stay away since the games revealed tremendous effort, great ball control and skill and the pace is frenetic - much higher than the games in the NASL where games are improving all round right now. Truly you are getting your money's worth and , based on what I see in these highlights they are terrific value for money . Just look at the goals on the highlights of the Hamiton game-weren't they terrific? Fantastic. Even Dougle Imrie's last goal at the death was a thing of skill and beauty with which the goalie had no chance. If you are treated to games like these shown for this week then you are privileged indeed. -
Didn't that firm produce and sell Wills Whiffs? Thank you Sneckboy for that excellent explanation. To think I have waited all my life to satisfy my curiosity about + Fours and now you have made my day. This I will not forget. You now have one chance to insult me without retaliation..ha!
