Will oil be less important as time goes along? Well, last Saturday I read that Scotland has now so many wind farms that the energy produced by them can now supply the needs of every home in Scotland! That's something else. That sure raised my eyebrows because here in B.C, a Province of Canada which is 1.5 times the size of France, we don't appear to have any , or at least very few, wind farms either onshore or offshore. Which I think is ridiculous. Scotland also has energy being generated by incoming waves on the West Coast whereas we don't appear to have heard of that out in B.C. As a matter of fact I was idly listening to a talk show on the radio this afternoon sitting in my car and this subject came up and the people who were opining were saying the same thing that we SHOUILD be getting away from oil and into this type of energy? A sentiment that makes perfect sense to me on different levels, the monetary aspect, the saving of resources, the lack of destruction to the environment and no need to store mining deposits at all.---i.e. totally clean enery which is renewable for decades -
Matchday Thread Inverness CT -V- St Mirren
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scotty's topic in Caley Thistle
Maybe . But who will they get to replace him? Their young players have lost confidence as a result of the game losses. As they trooped off at half time their heads were seemingly already down and little spirit or fight left in them You have to feel a bit sad and some sympathy as well as empathy for them. 'Cos "There but for the grace of God go I." type of thing. I am afraid that St Mirren may end up as relegation candidates this term if things don't improve. Let's face it, the norms of Scottish football are changing. Poorer crowds, bigger teams such as the Hibs going down. And remember the day when first place for us would have been seen as absurd and the likes of Hamilton Academical being top of the League in the Premiership to be rather incredulous. You know--we may well just have a chance of winning this League this year. NOT TO MENTION a clean sweep of that and the League cup and the Scottish Cup. Would that bring in the crowds?- 56 replies

Well. Well! You know, I never realised the significance of your references to Americans before this day. Here's the story: My late Aunt Neen, my mother's sister, (they both lived in Spring Cottage, Culcabock, at that time ) married Archie Hepworth , an American G.I. who probably met her at a local dance and they fell in love. Then both returned to the States to Bynumville, Missouri and owned a farm there for the rest of their life. I went there to visit years ago. They were a devoted couple and had 7 children, 6 girls and 1 boy. The lad became a Marine and one day he was out on a lake with a girl friend and a squall blew up. He gave his flotation device to her and he drowned. To me he was, and will always remain, a hero in my mind for such a selfless act of courage and devotion to her and for being able to do the right thing. I have no doubt that it broke my Aunt's heart because he was also, by all accounts, a beautiful person. I just wish I could have met him in person.......

J Hughes went there because he's smart. However , he was also interested? Inquisitive? Go on -- add to the list chums.

The bright side? More money in the bank for ICT . Even at 1,000 as has been suggested (?) that's good money that will pay upkeep.- 50 replies

http://rampantscotland.com/tall_tales/tam_tales_wullie_collectible.htm So Oor Wullie was born in 1940 and it did play a big part in my early days since I was born in 1938. Every Sunday , I think, he appeared in the Sunday Post along with The Broons , both obligatory and fascinating reading for a person of my age at that time. Are they still appearing in the Sunday Post and is that newspaper still being published?

So it seems , Alex, that since they, OPEC countries, are controlling the market and have a finger in both pies they realty can't lose? It's time we got into electric cars in a meaningful way. Tesla is looking to sell their high end electric car for a huge price but , if it does sell, then the average man -in -the-street won't be long in buying it too. I suppose that past electric battery driven cars have never been produced in quantity becaise the current big car makers bought out the inventors. Me? --my next vehicle will have to be a drone. -
Sunstroke is brutal all right. Many years ago I was down in Oregon State in the USA and was out on the beach at midday. By evening I was delirious and either shivering or breaking out in sweats. Headache too. Ruined the weekend completely. Oregon is on a latitude with, say, Marseilles or something,. with Vancouver, B.C. on a line with Paris, France. Didn't take that into account and paid the price. Glad to see support is growing for Summer football then. It could save a few teams from financial disaster.

Yep! Are you getting nervous Alex that there may be a lay-off of workers on the oil rigs? Tell us about about OPEC and in what way your employers are associated with them? -
I am sure I remember Bob Galloway maybe about1953-ish--I think he showed up next door to me a couple of times. Was he quite a tall man with fairish hair.Anyone remember him?

The Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team
Scarlet Pimple replied to Scarlet Pimple's topic in Other Sports
OOPS! I see it's 9,700 Kilometers not 5.7 K's . Slight difference. Ahem! -
http://canucks.nhl.com/ This is the official website of the Vancouver ice hockey team who are in the National Hockey league; They have been in a few finals but have never won the Stanley Cup. Crowds are about 20,000 plus in Vancouver when they play at home in Rogers Arena. The team facilities(e.g. dressing rooms, offices, etc.) are out of this world. First class isn't the word for it. The team Doctors also have X-ray machines in the arena to image injuries as they occur, to ascertain how serious they might be. Players in the NHL start at $500,000 per season and range up to $6,000,000 per season. So they must be kept in top shape. Ice hockey is THE game in Vancouver but the Whitecaps soccer team is also very well supported and they play in front of crowds that approximate 20,000, The puck alone can break hands and feet or a knee. The speed of a hard hit puck is over 100 mph. Videos are best viewed by opening full screen at the bottom right of the video itself. Now they are off on a 7 game road trip in North America by plane totaling some 5,700 Kilometers. That's one game of about 2.25 hours every second night! That's the longest road trip of the season so the sooner they get it out of the way the better. How are they doing--very well after a slow start but not sure exactly where they are in the standings at this very moment. Cheers S.P.

Bobby Bolt? Ex Rangers and I always remembered the sweat on his brow. His son, also named Bobby as I recall, played with Caley for a short time but never seemed to make it. Very hard I imagine to keep up with the reputation of his hard-working Dad. Peter MacKinnon--Pete was well known to me since he lived next door to me and was a very nice man indeed--always a cheery and friendly word for a young boy(me) who, well, kinda idolized him. What a physique he had and what a constitution. He used to dance in the penalty area on his massively muscled calves on his tiptoes in his role of centre half and few strikers or balls got past him. One of the most nimble footballers on record. He passed away not that many years ago and has always been fondly remembered by me for his genuine nature and his kind heart. Did you know that he transferred to Elgin for 50 pounds? What a steal in these days players were, eh? Changed days now, what? I remember Frank MacBeath too on the right wing, Bughtmaster. Rather elegant, effective player he was. Nothing particularly fancy, just diligently did his job. Man, you'll have to stop this reminiscing back to our boyhood or you're going to make me shed a tear from old memories.

Well, IHE that's right on. He seems to have melded the good stuff that T B left behind with his own progressive, more visionary, approach and introduced a brand new, crisper type of football. I am thankful for John Hughes that it's working a treat. And, even more importantly, that the players have adapted to with obvious flexibility and are now playing with enthusiasm and growing confidence. That's the pother benefit of JH's vision. Don't let's also underestimate the strong directives and the supportive role that JH is imparting to the players and the club because I feel sure that he is leaving a lasting impact and, perhaps, a future legacy. No T.B.-type tantrums, no anger outbursts or frothing at the mouth or against the world, emphasizing the positive aspects of any circumstance that may be seen by some as negative. Plus, his own character that really values this club and his loyalty to it - which to me is very important. If and when a manager's heart is in it and he is not just in it for his own good and advancement then the chances of a healthy and very upwardly-progressive movement is bound to pay dividends. We found out with some incredulity and to our cost that this was not the case with a former manager. And this left the acid taste of anger, resentment and deep disappointment to fester as well as a sense of disarray amongst most fans after his departure All this has silenced who Bughtmaster refers to as the naysayers and negative whiners. And let's face it ,Kingsmills, that choice of Manager was made at the behest of Mr. Cameron's direct influence and Bughtie was only connecting the dots, IMHO.

The allusion of devolution may be close to dissolution--and leave us still trying to find the solution. Which might-be the conclusion. But,for this, Confucious says "we need agreement on all paths, so we need more fusion" And so ends my musing. -

Alex Jones--a recent article I read about how ambitious the top guys at Aberdeen F.C. are, states that their plans call for a new enlarged stadium sooner rather then later. And a move to another location if I read it right. If the Dons can get Graeme then his brother might also be a possible candidate for an approach a year or so down the line.

The Rich and Powerful, mun! Way back when, like. 'Cos speaking it their way meant obeisance, forelock-plucking, loyalty, deference, feigned admiration and respect for, their flag....eh? Meaning the Proletariat and the Great Unwashed didnae understaun a word they said......which is precisely what they wanted in their enclaves of excellence..... Right? Meaning control with a capital "C", see. All of which I found detestable, deflating, delineating, demanding of a long tongue for boot licking and darned depressing. Which is part of the reason I left Westminster, London and such vagaries of the business class in Scotland and their ilk and boarded my own H.M.S. Mayflower to seek out a new land of promise and fulfillment. In a land where money is the great leveler, not hoitytoityness, and if you can do the job and get along with people then you don';t have to worry about getting fired by mean- spirited or deranged persons since there is always another job just round the corner that you can expect to get . IF you can prove up front that you are a likely-lad with some acumen. You see, dearies, people either like you or they dislike you right off the bat and I have met some very interesting people that I liked also and retained their goodwill for long periods of time.In business it's not the instant buck that you value the most but recurring business from reliable customers that pay you timeously. Which in turn pays your recurring bills and allows you to consolidate , improve, buy better equipment, advertise and build. Oh, and if you are willing to work at anything then your chances of getting on increase exponentially. At which point you don't have to worry overmuch about asking when you might expect to get promoted since if they fire you on the spot then the guy next door will step forward and say to you....''Heh Scar. I have been watching your situation and I knew that you were either going to quit or get fired so, now it has happened, how about joining me in buying a business in North Vancouver. Sure,John, why not? I aint got nuffink to lose, buddy, and the settlement that I wrung out of that drunken madman will last me for at least 3 months..... And thereby lies a tale, chums, since Uncle Scarlet thereafter built up and stayed in that business for 29 years to retirement....and was much happier to boot since I had got rid of the collar and tie, was my own boss and knew that if I didn't work hard then I wouldn't eat--just the ticket. -
But the weather is much more settled and less cold in the summer isn't it? So, before any of the above suggestions are given serious consideration, is it not just as smart to demand Summer Football from the beaks now. Are the beaks doing anything about bringing Summer football to the Premiership, or all the leagues? Sure--they are holding meetings ...and meetings but I have never read or heard a thing about doing anything about it . Are there any known moves afoot by the clubs working together to demand this? ICT management and the Manager are doing their darndest to provide an above average product so they deserve the right to ...at the very least....try it out. Then the whole family, including the whining and reluctant bairns, can participate. And for that we also need some form of games or entertainment for the families at half time. Otherwise I am going to go into a dwam of frustration and then clinical depression or something? Changes must be rung or the future is bleak. So I say ..TRY IT.

Not ironic but a big surprise that it is Caley D's comment that has brought the older fogies like Buckett back to life and back on here. I miss these former regular posters and the challenges they posed. Ha! Ha! Good to see you posting again and you won't return to OOR WULLIE's seat too soon again. Big man--it takes a as big man to admit the truth. ICT Roughi--I agree that bringing back Greig Tansey was a very smart move. What he loses in ball directional control he makes up for it in effort and a very challenging presence for the opposition players to control. He's a hard player and direct and knows where the goal posts are (but, sometime not always the bar ). Eagle for Caley---isn't it eyrie how the Eagle has Landed from Hibs and the eaglets have rallied to his cause and directives, spreading their wings and fluffing their feathers, like. Let's hope that when they jump from the nest on their first, courageous flight on the great adventure into the unknown that they will not have a pratfall like many others before them. As the wise old eagle intoned to a reporter recently about one of our players (Shinnie?) ..."I think he needs another year under his belt before he is ready for the big jump."
