bottom line is that yes, it was only a cup win but it was arguably the cup win that put us on the map and became a driver for future progress. Our biggest ever result you might argue was against St Johnstone that won us the title but that was the culmination of a season of work. If you ask Celtic fans it was also a huge game for them too but in other ways ... read some of the recent articles comparing Barnes and Mowbray and you will realise that most Celtic fans see it as something painful but ultimately positive, they got rid of Barnes, got O'Neill in the end and ultimately he won them a lot of trophies and took them to Seville ........ if we hadnt beaten them, how much longer would Barnes have lasted? would they have ended up with O'Neill? and would they have ended up down the same road to Seville? they dont seem to think so. if you dont like it, dont listen, no-one os forcing you :wave01:

I thought we paid 50K for him ... so we have anything from 40-60K speculated at. Given he is out of contract at the end of the season we either need to sign him up on a new contract or get what we can now as we would get nothing at the end of the season. Somebody posted a few days ago that he wants to stay, I would have no problem with that but we need to offer him a deal for that to happen. If we can't or he wont sign one, then we need to cash in. Although he can be a valuable player, he blows hot and cold and IMHO is not going to be the difference between us winning or losing the league so the principle (touted for others in the past) that keeping him to the end of the season will earn us more in the long run may be moot. Transfer window in Scotland was 5pm, same as England but is now midnight I believe (it was extended). they mentioned something to this effect on open all mics at the weekend.

I do not for one second believe that you think there are no reporters, local or national, who use this forum. It is in fact well documented that The Highland News and Inverness Courier have in the past quoted directly from threads posted here. Scotty and CaleyD have also stated that they are well aware of employees of ICT at all levels who use this site, going as far as to say threads are even printed off and handed around at TCS so your point of view is either sadly deluded or extremely naive, sorry. This is taking it a bit off topic, but you are both partially correct in my mind. It is a public website in the sense that anyone can access most of it (the main site etc) without joining. However, to access the full site, and specifically the forum portion of it, you do need complete a free registration and become a member. This by its very nature makes it a private forum open to members only. We can, if we choose to, reject or remove any account which we feel does not warrant membership or abuses that membership. If you are not a member and you choose not to join you can view only the first post in each thread as noted in the privacy policy: "If you choose not to register or not provide personal information, you may still visit the caleythistleonline.com websites but you will not be able to access the restricted areas available to registered users...." When signing up as a member, you do accept the terms of use whether you read them or not and part of those terms are as follows: "Any redistribution or reproduction of part or all of the contents in any form is prohibited. I personally dont have an issue in people printing stuff off for personal use, but if they are doing so and using it as the basis for termination of employment then you could easily argue that they are in breach of the forum copyright rules.

Yes Birdog, Don probably should (and will) take some responsibility for any projects that get cancelled due to this event and if you read back, you will see he has posted about this very dilemma. However given that all of these projects are being pretty much driven by us rather than the club, I dont think he should be villified for this. I hesitate to post this as it may be getting a little too personal for my liking, but one thing about Don is what you see is what you get. Yes he is opinionated, yes he can rub people the wrong way with those opinions or with his blunt approach to answering a problem, but that also describes half of our membership on this site !!! As far as I am concerned, I would not have it any other way from Don or from the posters. As many of you know, Don and I are in business together running our web design company, and I feel we work well together because Don's style actually complements mine. Where I am too soft or naive, or where I usually want to give the benefit of any doubt, he will try to cut through the bull, and deal with the actual issue. Between us (and with the help of the mods on this site) we normally try to have a happy medium. His avatar is a dog with a bone and like his avatar, when the issue is not being dealt with or avoided, then he does get his teeth into it and I think that applies equally to projects we work on together or life in general. Going back to the issue that precipitated this action .... If there is nothing within the stadium ownership discussion that doesnt pass the sniff test then why does the mere mention of it get hackles rising? Why has there been no denunciation of his theories? Why will none of the principles sit down with him and give him an answer even if it is off the record? And why was he sacked for questioning the issue when the person who he is primarily directing these questions at is not employed by the club nor on the board in anything other than an honorary capacity? As I mentioned above, the "why" is not that difficult to work out, its the "how" that frequently sticks in the throat and that is a trait that has been evident for quite some time. Govan Jaggie mentioned his father Dougie. Dougie - for those that may not remember - was also a stadium announcer (and a good one too) who managed to survive for years in the post until he too was unceremoniously dumped. Roger will know more details but I do remember that one week he was there and the next he wasnt. Fast forward a little bit and I too experienced the same treatment over the website. I bent over backwards to help the club for years, never taking a penny from them (although I will admit to the odd free ticket or invitation to hospitality), but some at the club questioned my motives especially as I wasnt trying to coin it in from the site. The simple fact is that I have never been that motivated by money, its nice to have but its not my primary driver. I did it because I wanted to help and it was enjoyable, and I do it now because it keeps me in touch with Inverness and ICT. Towards the end of our stint as the official website - and after the racism accusation directed at one of my friends in which I chose to back him trather than the club - it became apparent that three individuals in particular, all of whom were in the employ of the club and who I regarded as friends, were speaking nice to my face but stabbing me in the back at every opportunity. I could (and perhaps should) have reacted differently, but being someone who believes in "what goes around comes around", and because I was still settling into life in a new country, I elected to bide my time. We actually created a "temporary" official site including an integrated club shop for the club, hosted it for them for free, and continued to update it for them for 6 months, all the while working alongside them to ensure a smooth transition to the site they have now. During this whole process, the three were still sticking the knife in (something I have documented proof of if they want to deny it). Two of them have now had their comeuppance, there is one to go and that person will also "get theirs" and the best part is ... in all these cases, I have not had to compromise my own principles because they will have failed by their own hands and not by anything I have done. In fact, I have actually worked with all three in the 5 years since this happened and held no grudges when doing so as what we worked on was for the benefit of the fans and/or the club. It is that same principle of working for the good and benefit of the club despite personal grievances that I would hope to see in terms of the ideas we have submitted to them in areas such as Audio, Video, Twitter and other projects that have been in discussion. There is zero budget for those at the club to accomplish these things so we have leveraged the 2000+ members on here to help in areas where the membership may have expertise, and on top of that we have offered our own services free of charge - as is our norm when dealing with the club - to try and get a lot of these projects off the ground. We do not want "ownership" of them, nor necessarily to run them, we are just happy to do the legwork and get them running for the benefit of us all ........... We are happy to continue and the offers we made to help with this are still on the table. Whether they proceed is not up to us, and if the projects disappear, it will not be by our hand.

As I understand it, Don does not know whether he is banned from the stadium or not. The question was asked when he was sacked, but as a third party was having to do the dirty work, the response was one of uncertainty until the board had been consulted. Whether the board have issued an edict on the matter yet I dont know. From my own point of view I can understand the "why" in the same way that Don himself does but I cannot support the "how", which was cowardly, shameful, and sleekit. A little more respect drains away ........ soon there will be none left. I also fear for the future of several projects we had either started talking about, had already lined up jointly with the club (audio/video) or have in operation already (twitter updates etc). Whilst both myself and Don are pushing for them and take equal roles in getting things setup on the web, it is Don who is on the ground getting it done and without him around the stadium, these will likely not continue as no-one will be remotely interested in picking up the slack. I very much doubt anyone considered the ripple effect on other projects when making this decision.

I have been checking the SFL website almost daily for re-arranged fixtures as we need to adjust dates in our prediction league but nothing has been scheduled yet.

Jay7 got it pretty well right. There was no "banter" in the answers like their was with series 1, and heck, they didnt even try spinning an answer when they didnt like the question like they did in series 1, they just ignored it. When my emails on the subject started to go unanswered I pulled the plug as unlike during series 1, I dont have the time to go chasing folk who dont want to be caught.

We were the official club site between 1999/2000 and 2003/04 and the "almost" official site before that but Mr Smith decided that PTV gave them more of an opportunity to make it a commercial success so went with them when we hit the SPL. We are always available to talk to the club should they have any queries regarding their web needs. That applies whether they wish to discuss upgrading their site in any manner or just want an opinion about something. That was told to Mr Smith when he moved to PTV and it has been said numerous times since then but only Darren has ever actually asked for an opinion about something which is why I am confident they will get round to improving it.

OK, I will make one further comment then I am going to shut up on the subject. Bottom line is that one person is charged with running the website. I am not sure if she gets much or even any help or whether she still has other duties on top of the website ones but she does her best with the tools she has been given. Her efforts are not in doubt as far as I am concerned. I know the club want to get it looking better but the fact of the matter is that there is no budget to get this done so it certainly wont be done by PTV (the provider). There are several problems with the site, many of which have been highlighted on here over the years but for me the biggie is the actual format. It may work well for the provider, who can trot out dozens of identical websites in a week if they had to just by tweaking colour assignments in the CSS files and creating logos or banners for the relevant teams but this standard template is optimal for 800 pixels wide (most screens are now a minimum of 1024 or bigger) and it is very rigid. It is equivalent to what we were using on SportNetwork 6 or 7 years ago and we left there almost entirely because the design was old even back then and as we developed we wanted to modernise our site and make use of more exciting and up to date features that could not be done on a global template shared by multiple websites. Another problem is some of the centralised features ... like the squad list or the fixtures .... How many times have we seen players listed who were no longer at the club or just last week a report of our game against Livingston instead of Airdrie !!! The club dont control this info as it is pulled in by the provider and it is rarely if ever accurate. It will improve, I am sure of it, but we need to be prepared to realise its lower on the priority list than some other things at the club. Darren still sends us info here so we will also continue to publicise whatever they send us either on the main site, in the events forum or both.

I am largely going to stay out of this debate (people in glass houses and all that) other than to say that the club are more than aware that their official site is far from perfect and they are looking to improve it soon.

it was the "with immediate effect" part that caught my eye ... that suggests some sort of explosive bust up or other perceived malfeasance that merited a sacking due to gross misconduct rather than just sacking him for losing to the Dons or asking for more money to buy players which seem to be the only two things he did wrong this week !
