I would concur !! As has been mentioned either in here or on another thread, we need a proven goalscorer / poacher. Bayne and Wyness have their own particular styles but Dargo was an out and out poacher (and I mean that in a good way). Tokely may be many things but natural goalscorer will never make it onto his C.V. :004:

Charlie will get literally dozens of emails a week offering him players from both the UK and abroad .... so many in fact that he probably bins half of them as a lot of them will be spam or not worth pursuing as the players wouldnt get a work permit. Before the club moved to their new official website (and email addresses) I used to get a fair number of misdirected emails or emails that were just sent to "admin" with a request that they be forwarded to the manager (which I did). A lot of these emails offered players from the likes of Syria, Cameroon, Algeria, Egypt, Ecuador, Brazil etc etc etc .... I am sure he gets a similar dose of more 'professional' emails from UK or European based agents who have actually taken the trouble to look or ask for his direct email address rather than doing a scatterblast mailshot and he probably pays a little more attention to these as well as memos that come from other clubs with lists of players available for loan .... however, the hard part is finding a gem (like Stokes) in amongst all the mediocrity. I would like to see if we could unearth a gem but wouldnt limit this to the SPL .... perhaps Hagi/Popescu will actually recommend someone or maybe our somewhat tenuous and so far unfruitful relationships with teams in England (Sheffield courtesy of a former Chairman, Man Utd courtesy of current Chairman etc etc etc.) will finally come to something.

I dont think there is any hard and fast 'rule' per say ..... Some players get a testimonial after 5 years or 10 years, some get it after a certain number of games and very often senior players will have it built into contracts as a sweetener. I think the main thing in awarding a testimonial is that the player is deserving of it and Barry Wilson certainly falls into that category for ICT as did Ross Tokely. I would add Grant Munro and Richard Hastings to the list for future testimonials. Richard is entering his 11th season at the club (albeit with a 3 year break in the middle - similar to Barry !), and Grant - believe it or not - is entering his 10th ICT season. Although we havent yet added all the matches and reports to our stats program you can click on the squad list to see the seasons that all players were signed for, and if you sort the list "by number" you will see the longest serving players at the top of the page. The "numbers" we used were the player numbers issued by Ian Broadfoot in his stats spreadsheets so, for example, Richard was the 16th player to ever sign for the club and is still going strong ..... (Tokely is #41 and Barry is #42)

I hope it is not moved ..... Sunday 5th August is the the expected debut of David Beckham in MLS. The game against Toronto (in Toronto) has an early kick-off so I would miss the ICT game :007: ..... or maybe I could sell my Beckham tickets ..... $30 tickets ( $30 is face value in season ticket pack but it is $110 if bought on the day) are reportedly going on eBay and other sites for around $600 or $700

I doubt we will play anything other than 'local' sides - the senior leagues wont have returned from end of season break when ICT are there.

At the end of the day no player is bigger than the club as this has been proved time and time again. The player's own agent said that ICT had made a "very good offer" only 2 weeks ago but today hinted that the offer was not good enough when he said you had to put the offer "into context with the goals that Craig had scored for the club and his market value." That to me smacks of rampant ego - either by the player or the agent. In that circumstance, it makes Mr Dargo no better than any other mercenary (think Bingham or Brown) that has jumped ship for the lure of a fatter paycheck and therefore unworthy of our continued support. I have no problem with applauding the likes of Robson going to Dundee Utd, Wyness going to Hearts or even Bobby Mann going to Dundee as they all moved for legitimate reasons that were either to do with stepping up to a higher level than ICT was at at the time or in the case of Bobby, being able to actually have a home life with his family but that agent's statement is either badly worded or totally mercenary. [note: I also have no problem with Darren Dods moving to United either as he was totally up front with the club and the fans and professional to the end.] As with any player, I do thank Dargo for his contribution to ICT in the time he was here but I do not wish him well now that he is no longer an ICT player as his welfare is no longer my concern !!!

agree we need a couple of decent signings but it is not totally true to say no-one is coming in !!! OUT Dods - yes we need a replacement. The starting 4 of Hastings, Munro, Caff, Tokely have little or no cover for injuries and no competition for places which could lead to complacency. Brown - IMHO, Fraser has proved to be a more than adequate replacement after patiently waiting for many seasons. Ridgers is there as #2. Dargo - a blow, but not an insurmountable one. Denzil/Bayne can score goals if given service and our midfield looks good enough to provide that service. Agree we do need an additional striker though to challenge Denzil/Bayne. Rory is not ready and Buchanan (if he comes in) may need some time in the reserves before he is ready for SPL action (or he may be a sensation - in other words - an unknown quantity). Golabek - A tremendous servant to the club over the years but in all honesty did we miss him last year when he went to Livi ? NO. I wish him all the very best at County and thank him for his contribution to ICT but this is one player who can be replaced reasonably easily (or maybe has been if you consider the young left back moving up from the U19 squad). IN Paatelainen - looks a good signing, contributed at the end of last season, will benefit from full time training and I predict he will be one of our 2007/08 shining stars. Cowie - I dont know a lot about him to be honest, but he has been mentioned by ICT supporters for a few seasons as someone who would be good to have. I will defer to the better knowledge of my peers on this one !! Buchanan (?) - One for the future perhaps ? or maybe he could come straight into the first team squad in the same way that Paatelainen did and he has done well. If he were to form a good understanding with either Wyness or Bayne then it could be quite exciting as he does know where the back of the net is. Ridgers - Capable keeper who was #2 ahead of Mike Fraser for a long time at the club. Decent enough signing. Cant see it myself. think Charlie is a little better than that. However, I could see us signing some eastern European player(s) on the recommendation of someone like Hagi or Popescu and that could go either way .... we could unearth a gem or a dog turd. We might get the next Henrik Larsson who was, without doubt, the best transfer Scotland has seen for years (650K !!!!) or we could end up in a deep pile of "Rafael" who must rank as the worst 2.5 million that was ever spent. all we can do is wait and watch .........

I think it is way to early to predict .... With the loss of Dargo and Dods, Charlie needs to get good replacements (rather than younger 'developmental' players) for both defence and up front (I think midfield is just fine and dandy BTW). Once we see who he is signing we might have a better idea of how well we might do !!! My heart says we should hope for top 6 but realistically, with the squad we have right at this minute I would be happy with 8th/9th with any combination of Falkirk, Motherwell, St Mirren, Gretna and maybe (or should that read hopefully) Dundee Utd below us.

I have a feeling that messrs Hagi and Popescu might be busy trying to find us a suitable replacement if that reported scouting deal did indeed come to anything
