Depends where you looked from - chain was on the wall to the left if you were on the canal side or on the right if you were at the bottom of it. On the other side, there was usually some form of rope swing which was pretty hairy as the ground fell away quite dramatically Yup - did that too long before the Caley Inn was a hostelry I worked there before going to uni - would have been from about May 84 to August 84. Was a general dogsbody on the marina side helping out the likes of Richie Foss, Brill, and Peter the boatbuilder -- did get a day out doffing my cap to the posh people at the Moy Fair though and a few occasions where i got to birl (sp ?) about on the cruisers on a Saturday moving them from the berths to the transom jetty for cleaning and back again before they were rented out. I remember that area - quite steep and scary Here's a few more for you ..... .... going from the Bumbers Lane to the Cemetery on a bike (usually with playing cards clipped onto the spokes to make noise) through all the lanes where the garages / sheds were ...... through fairfield road-lilac grove lane, then on the road to st ninian then through the lanes all the way to the police houses opposite the cemetery ...... .... go karting from the top lock to top of hawthorn drive or down the bumbers lane on home made carts .... hiding in the 'air raid shelters' along the canalside - one at the top lock end, one at tomnahurich .... seeing a colour TV programme (seem to recall it was a game in the 76 world cup) in Tony Wood's house - his dad worked for Radio Rentals and I think he was the first in the street to have one !

:015: :015: :015: - Yup - there was also a section of the trees near the end of Hawthorn Drive before St Valery where between the trees and the canal banks it was pretty well cleared out - It made a great 'fort' in those days and the trees had enough straggly branches that you could climb pretty high. Yup and catching a small fish thinking it was a monster !!! Didnt like the eels though ... euuughhhhh Me too !! Do you mean the one opposite Scott II or the one nearer the Top Lock ? There was a ledge on each side ..... and trees at both. The tree beside either one was handy but the chain on the wall near the top lock one was more fun !! while we are on Canal Bank memories ..... [minds out of the gutter please] ..... how about Bramble picking .... recall seeing many an old wifie wandering around filling bucketloads of brambles into containers for jam. Or how about canoe hire at Caley Cruisers when it was still just a small boatyard - could go there on a saturday morning and get one for an hour or two and go anywhere you wanted so long as it was no further than top lock to tomnahurich bridge

Yup - pretty much what I have heard over the years .... If it were a normal stand it might only be a (very) few rows deep because of the pipe and the inability to re-route it without incurring considerable costs ..... guess we will just have to wait for the SPL / UEFA / FIFA and see if they give any credence to the growing movement to allow 'safe standing areas' at stadia. This area would be perfect for a standing area given that it was one before we reached the SPL.

unfortunately, our site search function stopped working properly a little while back so the only option is to use the sitemap in the main menu on the left to look for old articles. We have a few tweaks to make when the season ends and hopefully it will make searching the site and finding old articles a little easier

Think this is the main reason
-
I think David Sutherland did float the possibility a couple of years ago ... however our current chairman made it quite clear that a 4th stand would be built only when it was actually needed ..... PAGE 2 for stadium questions

I am in agreement with this comment and am moving it elsewhere as there has not been a football related comment in it, far less an ICT related one, for quite some time. If anyone wishes to question that decision, please do it via email or private message or it will be ignored.

Got this from the club a little earlier ....... unfortunately, I will be unable to make it on account of being 3500 miles away, but I assume I was meant to highlight it to local fans who might be able to make it along ...... The Reserve team are at home to Rangers tomorrow evening (Tuesday 17th April) with a 7.00pm kick-off. Admission prices are £5 adults, £3 adult Season Ticket holders, £1 concessions. Why not come along and give the boys your support?

You are what you think you are ....... If you were born in one place and brought up in another you could legitimately say you were from either place. If you moved to a place at any part of your life and have become embedded in that society then you can also legitimately claim to be from there. Its your own opinion that matters, not anyone elses. example .... To the rest of Canada (outside Toronto), I am classed as a Torontonian !!! To a fellow Torontonian, I am seen by many as a Scotsman To a fellow Scotsman in Toronto, I am always seen as an Invernessian. To myself, I am an Invernessian first as I was born and brought up there, but I am also a Torontonian as I live and work here and also pay my taxes here.

That sounds about right !!!!

Latapy probably doesnt need a permit as he has become 'naturalised' ... same would apply to Richard Hastings if he is officially classed as Canadian !!!
-
{LINK} I am a little confused over the criteria and didnt think the SPL could / could not grant a permit ? .... I know there is a UK HOME OFFICE rule that the player must have played OR BE EXPECTED TO PLAY in 75% of his country's last/next international games and that the country should be in the top however-many teams in the world (25 ? 50 ?) before a permit is granted. However, how is it that the SPL can refuse a permit whereas the SFL can grant it ? Is there a quota in each league ?

Gretna will (eventually) stand or fall on their own merits just like Livingston. They currently have a small fanbase and a chairman with deep pockets who can do whatever he likes with his cash. He will realise his dream of seeing them in the SPL but its a very good question to ask what will happen next if he succumbs to illness or if he loses interest once they are actually in the SPL. Both scenarios are possible and Gretna may well tumble to division 1 or 2 ... in the end, they will find their level and compete at that. The same applies to Livingston, with a small fanbase, who spent wads of their chairman's cash to get where they were. It will be some time, if ever before they get back, but if they do it, this time it might just be on merit. Dundee Utd might be accused of a similar thing with Eddie Thompson throwing cash around to secure McCall, then Brewster as well as players, the difference is that they are a big club with a decent fanbase and he is trying to get them back to where they were. His best signing in the debacle of the last few years is undoubtedly Craig Levein who is an excellent manager. Caley Thistle are also seen as similar by a few - a chairman with loadsa money who built two stands to get us back to our ground to play SPL football. They might be right in some ways but we are fortunate that David Sutherland didnt just throw pots of money at us, he educated the staff / management of the club to work within a fiscal plan so that we could try and live within our means while still progressing and only came forward with cash where absolutely necessary. Hopefully Alan Savage - who is also not short of a bob or two - will take us forward in a sensible manner so we are in the SPL for years to come. anyway ... to answer the question I would prefer St Mirren to go down. I know more Pars fans and used to spend a bit of time in Dunfermline on courses a few years ago so prefer that team and town as opposed to Paisley.

If IHE took you on a pub crawl, then somewhere in there was probably the Tarry Ile ....... glad to hear you survived your expedition with the tattoed one, not many do :015: :015: Clacher - you are on ..... there shall be no more promoting of Johnny Foxes to non-natives as soon as we receive the cheque .... 5 grand should cover it. But instead of a ban, we shall impose the penalty of a pub crawl with IHE and the offender has to buy all the drinks :015: :015:

Agree 100%. Not only do the players have to be dedicated, but so do the coaches. There are minimum certification requirements for all coaches at SPL clubs from head coach down to youth coaches. All have to be certified to certain (different) levels and as 'D' says, this doesnt come cheap so why should they put up with someone who 'cant be ersed'. Whats the player going to be like 10 years down the line if they cant be bothered at that age ? Many people on this site do or have had some affiliation to local 'amateur' football in Inverness .... ask yourself how frustrated you felt when some of the players signed to your amateur team didnt turn up because they couldnt be bothered ......... it used to drive me nuts !!!! Take that to a professional level and you have to tell people 'these are the rules, and if you dont follow them, there's the door ........' I am sure there are plenty of other youngsters chomping at the bit to get the chance.

Yeah the route has you swimming quite nicely along the English Channel heading for Weymouth or maybe Southampton before getting you to make a sharp right turn and heading for Le Havre ..... also, no matter where you are in North America, it has you diving into the water in Boston !

Gringo sent me a nice little Google Map quirk .... I wondered whether anyone else has had any 'beauties' when searching Google Maps ? Here's the one Gringo sent me. Step 26 is very cool (bloody freezing if you tried it){LINK}

:015: :015: not fear .... just being realistic. DUFC are a different beast under CL than they ever were with previous managers

8 in 23 games is a decent strike rate although it is lower than last season for him. However, lets not forget he was out injured for a fair bit of time. league goals this season from strikers ..... Bayne - 5 in 33 McAllister - 1 in 17 Wyness - 1 in 19 McSwegan 0 in 9 I think those numbers speaks for themselves, unless of course we want to score all our goals from midfield/defence Rankin 6 in 31 Wilson 4 in 31 Dods 4 in 31 Munro 2 in 31 Paatelainen 2 in 7 Tokely 2 in 32 McBain 1 in 29 Answer - yes we will miss him if he goes !!
