  1. Another instance where the radio highlighted his performance. The radio commentators were adamant that it should have been a red card and sounded quite suprised when only a yellow was issued. I remember watching this ref a few times as we came up the leagues and always thought that Brines was one of the better ones - sounds like he either had an off-day or has been infected with the crapness virus that seems to affect many of our top officials.
  2. I prefer to describe it as "robustly cushioned" maself ..... beats 'big boned' :015:

    Gretna

Were we saying the same thing when we almost reached the Scottish Cup Final (twice) and would have qualified for europe without kicking a ball in the final ? The rules in their current format - whether right or wrong - are the rules and Gretna qualified under those rules. Whether you like them or not, you cant bar them from a competition because you dont like them or because they are from a lower division. Not too many champions in the champions league either are there !!!
  5. The radio was quite complimetary about Brines' 1st half performance - talking about how he allowed play to flow and go back to players afterwards to have a word or book them. Listening to second half, his performance sounded far worse and he seemed to get conned a few times into giving decisions one way or the other
  6. sorry - was busy :004: attached ... [attachment deleted by admin]
  7. If the rules havent changed, he may well qualify based on a couple of criteria ..... - How many games he played for his Scottish club since signing - How many International games he has played in - As a regular T&T player, who was involved in the WC, he may be automatically eligible if he has played a part (player/sub) in something like 80% of their most recent fixtures. ... the other questions are ... would we want him ? would he want to come to us ? and would St Johnstone be willing to sell ?
  8. Do you have any money ? The system will not allow you to bid higher than you have in the bank. Its also a simulated transfer system so you cant bid for players from other teams in the league, just from the transfer system.

CaleyD - I cant totally agree with you !!! Whilst we are making many of the same points, the fact remains that this whole thing is a sorry mess that has been conducted by many parties through the media and the player, however professional is not blameless. I am not suggesting a witch-hunt, but I hope he never wears an ICT shirt ever again and I will have no good luck comments for him. We have had players that left at the end of contracts before, for financial reasons, to advance themselves, or to be nearer family - consider Barry Wilson, Dennis Wyness, Barry Robson and even Bobby Mann. Whilst not everyone will like all of these players, they all did a tremendous job for us and moved on - or in two cases, moved on and then back to us. IF DD stays till the end of the season and IF he performs at the same level as last season, and IF he stops his agent (allegedly) leaking things to the press then maybe he can move on with dignity but right now I think most of us are not very happy with him, want him gone, and would not hold the chairman's earlier statements against him if he did decide to sell him to the Grocer. - his efforts last season - :022: - his physical presence in the team - :022: - his desire to be near loved ones - :022: - understandable - - his (alleged) 4 yr + coaching contract request - :022: - cant argue with that, he is looking for security - his reluctance to sign a new contract - :022: - understandable given personal circumstances and lack of 4yr deal - recent reports linking him with DUFC - :020: - recent reports (leaked ?) of him being unhappy - :32: - faxed transfer request (also leaked ?) - :33:

dont think he would WANT to change that statistic ... he is a professional and it would be wrong to suggest he would do something against the team deliberately. It seems we are in danger of letting our disappointment at his transfer request and our desire for him to be dropped because of the uncertainty surrounding that request turn into a 'frankenstein moment' where we send out the lynch mob to confront the monster. I dont want him in the team if he wants away, but I stop short of suggesting he will act anything other than professionally on the park.

What have "Bennett & Co" done wrong other than try to hold onto a contracted player by offering him a new contract while fending off derisory offers from a club that prefer to do business through the media instead of through normal channels ? They made Dods an offer which, as it turns out, wasnt to his liking. Thats fair enough, I can respect that - its a short career and his next deal is possibly his last decent contract. We (now) know that his personal desire is to be closer to loved ones at the end of his current contract if he couldnt get the terms he wanted, and that is also understandable. However, this latest - media driven - move is taking the piss. I have said it before and will say it again NO player is bigger than the club, whoever they are, or think they are. If any player isnt committed 100% to the club and lacking the motivation or desire to perform well in front of fans who pay good money to see it then as far as I am concerned they can GTF !!! I posted my own opinion of our lineup for this week's game on another thread but at the end of the day its up to CC / DP - with Dods embroiled in this saga there is no way he can concentrate 100% on his game - no-one could, machine or not (as we have seen in the last 2 weeks !) - and I hope that Charlie has the balls to drop him for the greater good of the team.

  14. Copy of a news release received from ICT FC. Caley Thistle have today received a transfer request from Darren Dods, by fax from his agent. This has been turned down. Director of football Graeme Bennett says:"We have notified the agent that the situation remains unchanged from our last meeting at the end of July when we indicated that we expected to see Dods honour his contract to play for us this season. "That is the end of the matter as far as we're concerned." Caley Thistle are also disappointed to note fresh media stories in which Craig Brewster criticises the Inverness club for not selling players he has bid for. Mr Bennett says:"We have today spoken to Dundee United chairman Eddie Thomson about this blatant attempt to unsettle our players. "The only player we were prepared to have dialogue with United about was David Proctor but their offer did not meet our valuation. That remains the position and business will only be done if they meet our price for this player. "All other players are not for sale, as our chairman made extremely clear in his statement two weeks ago. In the light of that statement, Mr Brewster's comments are unprofessional. Our board gave him his first opportunity in management and we're very disappointed to see him act in this manner towards us. "Basically, he's complaining because we exercise our right to keep our players. That smacks of desperation. We're fed up with it, our fans are fed up with it, and we'd like to concentrate on our own season rather than keep hearing how frustrated Dundee United are."
  15. some of them have other interests in the media - like Gordon Smith for example. Others probably have other businesses too ... does Paul Cherry still have an insurance firm ? It wouldnt suprise me if some of them are also on 'retainers' from some of their bigger clients if they have them.
  16. Bayne is a little like Paul Ritchie - both had their share of doubters (and boo-boys) but both worked hard at providing for the other strikers. As has been said before, he is never going to be a 20+ goal a season striker, but he will create a fair few for Dargo / Wyness or whoever he is partnered with

It seems simple - Dods does not want to play for us anymore and while their may have been 'gentleman's agreements' in place that made it clear that he might want to move closer to Edinburgh to be nearer loved ones etc at the end of his contract unless ICT offered him something that would warrant moving them closer to him in Inverness, this latest turn of events seems to suggest that he or his agent are stirring up the issue. Whether (his friend) Brewster is in the middle of all this is unclear but at this point immaterial - it is the player or agent talking to the media and therefore the buck stops with him. We have said it time and time again - NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB - IF Dods does want to go and he or 'his people' are responsible for the latest machinations then its simple - he is out of the team and replaced by Stuart McCaffrey. Caff may not be the same style of player but he is a more than adequate replacement for the ungrateful barsteward. If Golly is not playing then give the armband to Barry Wilson, Russell Duncan or Ross Tokely
