  1. doesnt matter if Brewster started the interest or not he didnt stick around to finish the job and actually sign the player so the plain and simple fact of the matter is that JOHN RANKIN was Charlie Christie's first signing for the club. end of.

    Elton & Europe

The news has been out there for more than a week so to come on today and call him a fat, bald bum fondler and have a title that talks of ICT taking it up the bum for Elton makes it homophobic in my book which is why it was edited. I should have gone with my first inclination which was to delete it entirely. I wont make that mistake again. I edited the content & title rather than deleting it as I felt the subject (minus the inappropriate comments) was worthy of discussion and hoped it might develop into a normal thread for once. Obviously I was wrong and yet again it seems that normal threads cannot exist or develop on this site any more. so, the thread is being closed. Some days I question whether its worth bothering with a forum at all - it really is more hassle than its worth.

  12. see my comments [and pdf file] above ... plan approved in 2006 for that very idea. The whole 're-zoning' issue seems to revolve around the names of areas. Longman "core" has been made smaller over the years and cannot be used for this type of thing but Longman Bay which realistically didnt exist in previous plans can be used for this. I was sure I read something more extensive online somewhere, might have been courier or HN or a different site altogether, but sure I saw something that had an artists impression of the area. might have a look later
  13. Topic closed - already being discussed in this one http://www.caleythistleonline.com/index.ph...mp;topic=3591.0
  14. Think it was the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act of 1980 that brought this ban (and a few other things) into law. Think the act has been added to or superseded over time but that was the original name I believe ...... no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong.
  15. Definitely a different culture .... It was "Escort" magazine on our side :015: :015: :015: The bike conversation also gave me another couple of memories ..... "Cheepy" Charlie in Caledonian Road with his ultra-cool "Chopper" bike :021: when the best any of the rest of us had were "cowhorns" ... and when thinking of Caledonian Road it reminded me of the Morrisons Bakers van that went round the scheme every day .... used to enjoy that van and Campbell Allan's van, never quite enjoyed the fish van as much :015:
  16. Aha ... found the plan (approved June 2006) : {Click on the link to see the approved plan - PDF} In it, Longman Bay - (the blue bit in the pic below) is classified for redevelopment as "a high density “urban village”/visitor “gateway” of mixed residential, hotel and office development, tourist attractions including marina, together with major recreational links, the Caledonian Stadium and park n’ ride terminus; [attach=1] There's also this old article in the Courier that suggests that whole area is going to end up with industrial one one side and leisure nearer the coastal side .... {Harbour Development} [attach=2]
  17. read that in the Highland News .... {LINK} What it doesnt say is when we will be changing the name of the Stadium to "Portacabin Park" :024: but seriously ..... I would imagine the gym (at least initially) would be private as its for the players benefit and if open to the public why bother spending money on it - just go to a public gym as they do now. Moving onto the pub .... every time it has been mentioned in the last few years most people have regarded it as something that could be a considerable money maker if it is done correctly. I hope that the club actually seek advice from people who have been involved in the licensed trade who are associated with the club (eg. Caley Club landlord) or who are big supporters of the club (eg. George MacLean) to talk through their plans and any potential pitfalls rather than go it alone. In my own opinion, it would need to be a decent building - prefab is ok so long as its not portacabin style like the shop - It would also need to be large enough to accomodate a big rush once a fortnight. Perhaps what is required is not a huge building that costs a lot in heat and light but maybe a smaller main bar which has an enclosed (fenced off) 'patio' or 'beer garden' so that the overspill on match days could stand outside. This would have the added benefit that (if it is actually open at other times) its not like a huge empty cavern inside on days when there are no matches. They do this quite successfully in Toronto - even when it is -30 and snowing outside - by using pull down/out canopies on the sides of smaller bars in conjunction with heat lamps to make it comfortable so a similar arrangement in Inverness should not be a big problem. Maybe the bar could be open all day on a Saturday when the team are at home and restricted hours during the week - good pub lunches during the week might bring in a bit of trade too. I dont have the same fears of zoning that CaleyD has - for years the council have quietly been moving towards establishing the coastal area from the edge of the harbour to the nairn road as a marina/leisure area - I am sure the plans were online somewhere just about a year ago but cant find them.
  18. Confused !!!
  19. Couldnt get away with that, but we could go as low as 376 away tickets (5% of ground capacity)
  20. I have no problem with anyone taking topics in the direction they want so long as it is actually a discussion and reasonably relevant to the actual topic ... this one has gone in several directions over the last few days and to be honest, I am also not sure exactly what its about - outrage at opinions ? Racism ? Sectarianism ? They have all been covered in here. However, what it is not is a platform to throw out abuse to other posters regardless of who they are. I am getting fed up to the back teeth with posters who consistently and systematically use threads as an opportunity to abuse others. You might find it funny to bait IHE in here and you are probably quite correct in saying that he probably wouldnt take offence to your comments as he takes as much abuse as he dishes out and is no angel himself. However, the rest of us dont really want to read this nonsense and drivel and quite frankly its not funny. There is a private messaging system on here as well as a chatroom - if you want to slag each other off, do it in there. If that makes me on of the "little feckin pompous, politically correct erseholes who have no feckin sense of humour" then so be it.
  21. JohnBoy - with the exception of one word your last comment has nothing to do with the subject. :018: If you or anyone else wants to carry on a sarcastic or verbally abusive session with another poster please do it by private messaging.

  25. Depends where you looked from - chain was on the wall to the left if you were on the canal side or on the right if you were at the bottom of it. On the other side, there was usually some form of rope swing which was pretty hairy as the ground fell away quite dramatically Yup - did that too long before the Caley Inn was a hostelry I worked there before going to uni - would have been from about May 84 to August 84. Was a general dogsbody on the marina side helping out the likes of Richie Foss, Brill, and Peter the boatbuilder -- did get a day out doffing my cap to the posh people at the Moy Fair though and a few occasions where i got to birl (sp ?) about on the cruisers on a Saturday moving them from the berths to the transom jetty for cleaning and back again before they were rented out. I remember that area - quite steep and scary Here's a few more for you ..... .... going from the Bumbers Lane to the Cemetery on a bike (usually with playing cards clipped onto the spokes to make noise) through all the lanes where the garages / sheds were ...... through fairfield road-lilac grove lane, then on the road to st ninian then through the lanes all the way to the police houses opposite the cemetery ...... .... go karting from the top lock to top of hawthorn drive or down the bumbers lane on home made carts .... hiding in the 'air raid shelters' along the canalside - one at the top lock end, one at tomnahurich .... seeing a colour TV programme (seem to recall it was a game in the 76 world cup) in Tony Wood's house - his dad worked for Radio Rentals and I think he was the first in the street to have one !
