  1. Was in a waiting room at the dentist yesterday and picked up the Record, an unusual experience for me. For one of the view times in my life I found myself in total agreement with Jim Traynor who, for once, hit the nail on the head for me. If I could post the link I would! GS is and always was all mouth and no trousers. All back and no bone. All that mattered was his imagine. How he looked, how he came across and what people (only those he deemed of a certain standing mind) thought of him. at no point in his tenure did he have enough balls to challenge Peat and the old brigade in a public domain which, for me, proves that he did not have the courage of his convictions or the ability to back them up. GS was well remunerated for his task at circa ?250 kpa, considerably more than than Alex Salmond is paid to run our country. For that sum, I expect an individual of courage, conviction, energy, drive and most of all, ability. GS was sadly lacking in most. Perhaps the blame should lie with those who appointed such a poor corporate beast to a position way beyond his capabilities. If he wasn't such a pompous arse I may have some sympathy. He is, I don't. Goodbye Mr Chocolate. Go back to making money talking $hite on the TV and skimming off %s of young footballers' signing on fees. The real business world is too much for you.
  2. "Got the vaseline now just to decide which one of these guys looks up for it"
  3. If we like it or not, the Sheepmen are, despite their poor performances, a big club in Scottish football terms and will be in a position to offer any player considerably more than we can. As for the "no money" bit, this is just a plead poverty ploy in advance of any dialogue which may take place with any club. There interest worries me, not necessarily because they may end up at the Farm, as it will very quickly flush out other interested parties who may be more attractive than the Dons. The possibility of departure would then be much more significant.
  4. Smith's departure is great news. His handling of the national team from Burley's appointment to Burley's departure and all in between was shambolic. My only fear is that having tried one media idiot, the SFA will now move to appoint Archie MacPherson to the role!! Goodbye Gordon. I have no doubt that punters the length and breadth of our nation will be waxing lyrically about your huge contribution to our game for many years to come. My arse!
  5. Better version Settle RBD! Almost as bad as Paul Young doing "Love Will Tear Us Apart" !
  6. As sung by their great rivals, we should taunt the Dundee moneybags with the classic Inspiral Carpets - This Is How It Feels Told the chorus goes: "So this is how it feels to be Dundee, This is how it feels to be small, This is how it feels when your teams won feck all at all" Top tune anyway!
  7. Not in my name, nor that of any civilised individual from any democratic society. War crimes, nothing less.
  8. I agree with Nick !
  9. Is this the club's biggest achievement to date? To bounce straight back is phenomenal. Called it entirely wrong at Xmas and more than happy to eat my words. Stunning, absolutely stunning. Congratulations to all at TCS with a special mention for Russell Duncan, Ryan Esson and the Dubliners.
  10. Old news :)
  11. You make a fair put and mention some great players there. But another relevant point is that the English top flight is now dominated by the best players from around the world. That was not the case in the 70s and 80s and therefore the best Scottish players were able to compete for places in the top English teams. The likes of Dalgleish and Bremner would have held their own against anybody but many of the others you mention would have struggled in today's Premier Division. A lot of truth in what you say but think that many more than the pair you listed would have coped admirably. Perhaps it could be said that we then produced some of the best players?
  12. I wasn't alive for any of that.. but take your point. I now feel very, very old !!
  13. Have you tried watching dutch football?? Next to the SPL the Eredivisie is one of the poorest leagues in Europe... ffs Steve McLaren is on the verge of winning the title there with FC Twente Our football's got no worse, if Mowbray hadn't made a c*ck up of the money Celtic gave him then we don't even have this conversation. Robbie Keane is playing for celtic, which is just as, if not more impressive than Gascoigne or Laudrup.... and Larsson wasn't bought at his peak he was picked up from some 2nd rate swedish team for peanuts. I think the best way to gauge our league is by looking at the players that have been bought by the EPL and compete on a regular basis... Gordon (Sunderland) Hutton (Sunderland) McFadden (Birmingham) Ferguson (Birmingham) O'Connor (Birmingham) Berra (Wolves) Fletcher (Burnley) not to mention the likes of Dorrans and Adams in the Championship ...stick them back into the SPL and we make it a much more competitve league. We are still producing the same talent but we don't have the money to compete with the likes of Championship clubs so they are leaving Scotland early. There definitely has to be changes to the division though, at the moment with such a small division and only 1 promotion spot from the first division the bottom 6 sides are playing with a constant fear of relegation because they have such a limited oppertunity to get back... you only need to look around us at Dundee, Dunfermline & Partick. It's a win or die attitude from the first game of the season which leaves no space to try and play football... if the SPL is increased and the promotion places increased then you would have more variety in managers, players and most of all standard in football The players you list performing in the EPL are very average journeymen in real terms (Gordon the possible exception). Going back, not too far in time, the spine of the great Liverpool team (Hansen, Souness and Dalglish), Man Utd (Jordan, MacQueen, Albiston, Buchan), Leeds (Harvey, Eddie Gray, Frank Gray, Bremner, Lorimer and Jordan), Notts Forest (McGovern, Burns and Robertson) and no doubt many others in many teams. We are now delighted to talk about players in "The Championship" which is (no matter how you flower it up or rebrand it) the old English Division Two. Bottom line is that Scottish activity in English Division One (proper name) is limited at best. Three guys at an over performing Birmingham City and the rest in teams in the bottom six/eight. This bares absolutely no comparison with the huge Scottish contingents that dominated the top English teams of the 70s and 80s. We even had Stevie Archibald at Barca, idolised in a fashion his replacement Gary Lineker could only dream of. Add to that Jordan's spell at the San Siro, John Collins in Monaco, Eric Black at Metz, Mark McGee at Hamburg, Mo Johnston at Nates even Brewster at Ionikos. Where is our prescence how? Second Division of the Finnish league or Cyprus? I think we have a huge problem and don't know what the solution is. Ban computer games!
  14. Scottish football is probably at it's lowest point in my lifetime. The lack of our nationality playing in top leagues (forget the EPL we used to have people in the La Liga and Seri A), the level of performance delivered by our European representatives and the abject failure of our national team are three very legitimate benchmarks with which to measure our "success". Watching the quality of fare delivered by our so called elite cause despair. Anyone watch the two SPL games this week? Shocking, absolutely shocking. No idea what the solution is, but know that one will not be found as long as the anally challenged drongos that are responsible for the delivery of our national game remain in post. In pure Comical Ali style they remain devoted to telling us that everything in the garden is rosy, the world really is flat, Elvis isn't dead..........
  15. No.
  16. My primary aged kids got their season tickets for ?25 each, under ?1.40 per match, not too unreasonable. Spot on RBD. People are always quick to talk about the "one off" price. In the ESSSSSSPL days the "one off" game that was always wanted was the OF! Club ST prices for kids are great value.
  17. This must be your last season IHE ?
  18. I believe that argument is a load of old tosh, any attraction of new fans will be detracting from the old firm and not in the Highlands. There are more fans of other teams who travel from the Highlands to watch their football so any of them being attracted to support a local team is highly desirable. Yeah, I'm jealous too. I'd love a Hampden final, but I've had a couple of semis and I'm sure we'll get further in time. Wanting County do do well does not make me anti-Caley but I want my friends, colleagues and neighbours to have a wonderful feeling of escapism from their mundane lives. Does that make me less of an ICT fan? I don't think so. Be patient my friend. All this stress can't be helping. In time, I'm sure you will manage to go all the way :D !!
  19. So you are knocking it then? You must have been over the moon to receive the communication regarding ownership of the stadium. Never mind, sure it will be a different story at Clach.
  20. My turn to be like a dog with a bone.
  21. Surely this a false comparison? In recent times all our football has been in the top flight with goals much more difficult to come by. Once one of them has scored 19/20 (which is true?) goals in the SPL like Dargo then it's real. Difficult to compare at different levels. My nephew won the karting at Golspe six years in a row but does that make him better than Michael Schumacher who only won three?
  22. No need to get personal. on topic please. Apologies for taking things OT just indulging RIG in his fantasies :D
  23. You've been at the happy pills haven't ya? Reserving judgement until we (hopefully) see the Emerald Twins in the SPL. Then we can really measure them up against say Brewster/Dargo which was, for me, our best partnership in the highest level. That said, I think Roonney and Foran could make a huge impact with a couple of additions to the squad.
  24. I'll set em up .........
  25. Remember he got a huge rise when he went to Tynecastle :D
