No reason, just going by Robbo’s comments. As things stand, we have one player who can play right back (Mckay), four who can play centre back (Mckay, Toshney, Deas and McHattie) and row who can play left back (Harper and McHattie) so reasonable cover apart from right back.

That assumes Deas, as a left sided player, cannot play right back.

4 from 6 is good for competition but we do need a solid RB who can get up and down. 4 from 7 better fo us.

Would far prefer seeing our own youth players getting a game than most of the journeymen wev been "treated" to last few seasons will never no how good they are if the manager doesn't play them

I think we would all prefer to see our home grown talent get a game but they have to be good enough to get into the squad in the first place and get the experience to help them stay there. That's where a Reserve team helps.

3 years is a bit short term even for the least patient out there, and if you're looking for a return after that...😂

Patience is not something our club can afford Satan. If our directors  and managers are happy then so be it but it is only prudent to review every part of our business regularly considering our financial situation.

Don't think three years is quite long enough to come to that judgement yet...

from what I hear PB costs are in the 6 figure bracket so 3 years is certainly long enough for the club to review everything and take the required action if it is not producing a return.

Was saying the same yesterday. Could we not drop down a level re project brave or just go it alone?

I would just go it alone OCG and push hard to get our reserves in the SHFL. We don't have dozens of quality kids so let's concentrate on the ones with potential.

When we devalue our youth, we shoot ourselves in the foot. Below extract is from an article on Stuart Armstrong in Dundee's Courier today. Link to full article is below the quote.

"When the family relocated from Inverness to the outskirts of Dundee, Campbell seized an opportunity that had fallen into his lap.

“I was at Inverness before I came to United,” he said. “I spoke to Scott Kellacher (in charge of the Caley Thistle academy) about us having a look at Stuart and I took an instant like to him. Basically, I asked his dad straight away if he’d like to join us at United.

“I’m not going to lie, I was a bit surprised that Inverness said we could have him for nothing. I thought it would be harder than that.”

I don't think anyone is devaluing our youth it's just that we can't afford to run a reserve team where they can gain the necessary experience and develope against men.

Daniel Mackay is probably the worst example,  Roddy McGregor and Cammy Harper are two that should have played more than they did, partly due to pressures on gaining promotion back to the top league and partly due to management persisting with average journeymen.

The pathway is there, it's the management teams call as to if and when the youth make it all the way.

If the management team had followed up on the investment of time & money at youth level, played a few of the youngsters on a weekly basis , we would probably be about the same position in the league...but possibly with more money to attract a top player who might have scored the goals to make a difference.

That's how the system should work.

Sorry Satan I don't agree with you. Every kid needs a level up from playing in youth football before having a chance in the first team. We need a reserve team where they play with and against men, not an U18/U19 squad where there are kids ,who have no chance of making it. We seem to think numbers is a success but it's not, quality with potential is the answer. I don't blame our management for not giving some a chance but maybe next season he will have no option.

For whatever reason,  despite years of cutting back our annual losses are still enormous...but that's another thread/story.

Another team to support, however much that extra costs isn't viable.

If there is no pathway for development there is no point in investing in youth.

Absolutely agree. The Scottish game has long needed radical change but the panic induced by the current crisis is not the environment in which to discuss impliment any change which could affect the game for years, if not decades to come.

We need to have a commission, with a majority of sporting, media and commercial experts from outside the usual Scottish football bubble with a view to looking at things more thoroughly and more objectively to report by this time next year.

That's the problem with footie admin Kingsmills too much talk and not enough action.

A great gesture by the club to all the NHS staff and key workers. Blue is the colour many prominent buildings get lit up in to show that support

As CEO, will it not be that Gardiner is not necessarily a Director?

Correct. He is not a director.

I agree but Andrew might be one of the lucky ones just now he has a trade working full time and still playing part time football.

Andrew was always going to be a good part-time player. When he was released the club did him a favour. A good football wage and full-time work wage instead of crap wage and small chance of a regular start.

What an excellent example of full and honest communication from our CEO. Well done to the club and well done to him personally.

A stark contrast to the way his predecessor conducted herself and in very stark contrast to the way that Dundee FC and the SPFL are conducting themselves just now.

Very proud of our club showing this level of transparency just now when we are all so very much in the dark.

Having listened to Stewart Gilmour (excuse any spelling mistakes) I would agree that our CEO did a very good job but let's not be blinkered here. Our board would not be doing their job if they disregarded our current play off position to potential SPL promotion so the published reason to vote NO was not our only reason.

  13. A good guy, good footballer and a PE Teacher to boot. Just the type we need to coach our kids. I hear he is keen to getting a teaching job up here so the sooner the better imo.
