Team News - Injuries and Suspensions etc
The injured players. Thread here: http://caleythistleonline.com/topic/30199-risky-strategy/ He refused to deny he'd questioned the players' 'character' when specifically ask the 'loaded' question during interviews before/after the game yesterday, but obviously no names given. Doran? Putting the weight on with little incentive to rush back - no Cup Final soon! Meekings? Remarkable coincidence if his Twitter retort wasn't referring to the just recently published quotes from Hughes' press conference. Foran? Lack of motivation to return after signing an improved 3-year-deal plus a youth-coaching brief, then virtually sitting-out the next two-years? The consensus from the media pundits was that he's simply trying to get a reaction from the players, but that he's sometimes too 'honest' and shouldn't be 'washing our dirty linen in public'! He's also clearly irked with David Raven for some reason. Like every other club, there will be dynamics in the dressing-room - players/management come-and-go. It won't always/ever be totally harmonious. Every player states their new club is the most 'tight-knit, with the best bunch-of-guys, the happiest dressing-room etc" - it's just platitudes. Shinnie claimed such after we won the cup - but, incredibly, a fortnight later, all of the above attributes were the preserve of Aberdeen!

Scottish Cup 2016 - our defence of the trophy!
It was simply 'job done' last night! We move on to the 'Last-16' stage. Motherwell away. Looking at the draw - Motherwell - there were certainly better possible ties - but that applies to both teams! Still to play: East Kilbride v Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale Dundee v Falkirk Forfar Athletic v Linlithgow Rose Last -16 - (ties are on Saturday 6th February at 3pm, unless stated): Rangers v Kilmarnock (12.30pm) Annan Athletic v Greenock Morton Dumbarton v Dundee or Falkirk Dundee United v Partick Thistle Motherwell v Inverness Caledonian Thistle Ross County v Forfar Athletic or Linlithgow Rose Heart of Midlothian v Hibernian (Sunday 7th at 12.30pm) East Kilbride or Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale v Celtic (Sunday 7th at 3pm)

It was Alan Hercher!

Kilmarnock -V- Inverness CT
I agree with that DD. It's very tight. 4th place (and potentially European qualification) is as much a possibility as relegation the play-off...we're just 4 points away from either! By definition, we're equidistant from both scenarios. It would be negative to suggest we're only in the relegation-mix without acknowledging that 4th-place is also a possibility; and similarly it would be silly to suggest that while Europe is a target, relegation is unlikely - both possibilities remain alive, as we approach the season-defining part of the season. We need to make the next 3 league games count - unusually, all are at home. That will take us to the 25 game mark - approx. 3/4 of the way through the 'regular' season. We can then re-evaluate our situation ahead of the 8 remaining fixtures to the split...but, I think, 6 of those are away! It's all-to-play-for!

Goal 1,500...coming soon!
I too am glad! Don't have to 'worry' about goal 2,000, for around 7 or 8 years! The breakdown of goals: League: 1,237 Scottish Cup: 123 League Cup: 93 Challenge Cup: 47 Europe: 0 Although, largely irrelevant, It would have been ironic if say, Dani Lopez had notched it before he left the club. But, all 3 milestone goals have been scored by players who have been significant contributors for us; Xausa (500th), Munro (1,000th) and now Draper (1,500th).

Adam Rooney netted for Aberdeen in Dingwall this afternoon. Another penalty. (F/T: County 2-3 Dons)

Ross Draper!! Well done to him! He doesn't score many, but he's notched the milestone goal! One for pub quizzes nowhere. except perhaps the Innes!

Highland Hospice share transfer
Pure speculation here from me. If the 19% figure is correct, and using Yngwie's figures from above, Alexander Catto's 5% plus Scotlog Sales Ltd's 14% = 19% In actual number of shares, this would be 140,000 plus 433,950 = 573,950 shares. Precisely the figure Tyrone Smith quoted. Also, the 19% share would leave the Hospice as the second biggest shareholder behind the 24% held by the 'Trust' - again consistent with what's been reported. But, as I'm using peoples names here without any supporting evidence, no inference should be drawn from what my simply be an arithmetic coincidence.

Scottish Cup Replay v Stirling Albion : UPDATED
That article is a joke! "Rangers were expelled from Scottish Premier League" is simply nonsense. In no circumstance were they expelled from the SPL! They were 'docked' 10 points for entering administration - that was their only punishment. Subsequently, they failed to exit administration and were eventually liquidised - thus ceasing to exist. 42 clubs became 41. The leagues were re-aligned with an unexpected promotion for Dundee...and so on, down the structure, leaving a 12-10-10-9 set-up with an obvious vacancy to be filled in League 2. The new Rangers were accepted, unopposed. The likes of Spartans realised an application would be futile - they were appeased by the promise of a Pyramid set-up, to effectively stand-aside. And so, The Rangers were automatically accepted into League 2 - which the deluded still consider being relegated to the 4th tier - as a punishment! No such thing ever happened! The media need to grow some balls and report the truth!

Scottish Cup Replay v Stirling Albion : UPDATED
I was the same Alex, little TV payment info 'out there'! But it's true what RossP mentioned...for league games, it's no longer a massive boost (financially), having SKY covering your games. You could have all 38 of your fixtures televised live on SKY - or none at all. The money received would be exactly the same. It's now 'pooled' (as RossP stated) and distributed in league placement 'prize money'. However, having the SKY cameras at a Scottish Cup game does pay to the two individual clubs, so we've 'scored' here - ironically, by not disposing of Stirling at the first attempt! Seemingly the 'fee' is set by the SFA, and is the same, regardless of which company (BBC, SKY, BT Sport etc) broadcasts it. Another point - the TV money from both semi-finals is divided equally amongst the 4 clubs involved, so Celtic at Hampden is no more financially lucrative than playing Annan. But, it should be a decent pay-day for us against Stirling, although it will certainly have a negative impact on the crowd size on the night.

A figure of around £85,000 for SkyTV coverage, rings-a-bell - though, I assume it'll be split with Stirling...But, I could be wrong on both counts!

Scottish Cup 2016 - our defence of the trophy!
Obviously a bit presumptuous to be looking at the draw, as we're not 'officially' in it yet - but I'm confident we'll beat Stirling in the replay! No-brainer...we surely want the 'certain' non-league team left! (East Kilbride or Lothian Thistle HV) However, I seem to remember from earlier in the thread, it was mentioned that we've never been to Annan or Dumbarton ever before - and both are still alive! And of course, we've not been to Linlithgow, East Kilbride or Lothian Thistle either! Please, anyone but Celtic, yet again!
-
Dani Lopez
He just wasn't good enough, IMO. So much for the Aldershot fans saying he was 'too good' for Scottish football! We should have got rid of him after the spitting incident, and made a real statement. Glad he's gone, as I am with Sho-Silva.

January transfer window.
Yeah, and it's still got three-weeks to go! But much of the drama happens in the final day(s)! Not sure of the exact closing date of the 'window', but a quick glance at the net suggests it shuts at 11pm on 1st Feb in England. It's been good so far - extending Storey's loan and getting a new striker in.
