Some football agent / itk Twitter account has said that we have Grant Nelson, Rangers striker, on trial. It's also been reported on one of these accounts that we tried to sign Mitch Megginson from Cove Rangers but he decided to stay there. Apparently Premiership teams were interested in him but he'd rather stay in the Highland League.

I think fans often make assertions about players not trying or not being committed when their form dips but there are other reasons why players might not play well. I doubt many professional footballers, especially playing on a short term contract, ever stop trying.

Hopefully we play him up front with Oakley and Austin either side and play a dogs-of-war, long ball hatchet man style.

People always hark back to former players because we are fans, not scouts. Most normal people don't have the time or inclination to compile in depth knowledge of available players within our budget range.

Greg Tansey would be a great signing for us. We offered Kyle Hutton a deal to play central midfield, it's obvious that Tansey is a better player than him, he's probably a better player than Trafford as well. There isn't a team in the Championship who would turn him down. We won't be signing him as we can't afford him. The P&J reported that he doesn't want to play in the Championship either.

Robbo didn't 'unearth' Donaldson and Austin, they were both well known players in Scottish football, who played for other clubs in the same league as us last season.

To be fair to Robbo, he was in the position of needing to get players in fast last summer and we clearly signed people who were available rather than assessing them and making an informed choice.

Four teams relegated in the last four seasons, all of whom were in the top six a year or two previously. Two of those sides, us and County, won trophies in the two years before. Dundee Utd reached the league cup final the season before they were relegated, and the Scottish cup final the year before that. Scottish teams are on a knife edge - lose even one or two good players or make a poor managerial appointment and you can drop like a stone very quickly.
