  4. Must be from an paper out of your loft IHE no chance of CB spotting Betty Munro The cars Morris Marina, Hillman Avenger & Volvo 245 estate. The lorry is a Volvo F86 which became very popular and led to the demise of the British truck industry. I think the van is a Austin JU250, the photo was taken when the old magic roundabout was in place in the town.

  8. The off-licence is Chalkys and it is still there. The 25m range was part of the same building upstairs right behind the Haugh Bar where I fired my first real bullets .22, it was freezing cold and poor lights but it was a great introduction to shooting.
  9. Just brilliant well done to the team tonight a lot of happy fans tonight going out of the park and up the road after such a long time without a win, sets us up well to take another point of Celtic on Wednesday night
  10. At that time there was there was the Vanden Plas, Riley, Wolseley, MG, Morris and Austin all shared the Cambridge body but in these days you could easy tell them by the different grille and badges, there was also a range of engines. In 1967 while working in Skye my father bought a Riley 4/72 which was in that range, reg. 479FS Black and White, it was smashed and an insurance write off and it was a left hand drive! He not only repaired it but converted it to right hand drive using spares from a MG Magnette including the wooden dashboard from the MG which was different from the Riley but all fitted and run it for a couple of years. I was always helping him when he was working on cars so picked up a lot which now with modern cars is of no use at all
  11. The Rover is an MG Magnette MK3, the MK4 had a wider wheelbase which might have been better for this race. The other 2 are Mk5 Hilman Minx I think.
  12. Mcdermotts although I did not work there I worked onsite many times where it was mud and gutters or dry and sand blowing everywhere. I am sure some posters made a fortune working there
  13. I was a regular customer there from about 1973-76 when the hosts were Alex and Marion from Denmark and grumpy Bob the barman!

    Not working for me either.
  15. A Young Scot Attends English University Donald MacDonald from the Scottish Highlands went to study Law at a renowned and austere English university and was living in the hall of residence with all the other students there. After he had been there a month, his elderly mother came to visit him. "And how do you find the English students, Donald?" she asked. "Mother," he replied, "they're such terrible, noisy people... ...The one on that side keeps banging his head on the wall and won't stop... ...The one on the other side screams and screams all night." "Oh Donald! How do you manage to put up with these awful noisy English neighbours?" She asked her son. Donald replied enthusiastically: "Mother, I keep calm, I do nothing. I simply ignore them. I just stay here quietly, playing my bagpipes."
  16. No chance of identifying any of these cars, 007 has a lot of safety gear! i am sure he must have got a knocks and bumps during the racing.
  17. Receiving loud and clear, great work you are doing CaleyD
  18. The Consul could do with a set! About 1970 my next door neighbour had just passed his driving test and he borrowed his fathers Consul to visit his sister who had just moved to Avoch. His younger brother sat in the front passenger side with me in the middle on the bench seat as it was a 3 speed with column gear change. We went over on the ferry but to save money on the way home we were heading round by Muir of Ord and near Tore there was a huge pool of water across the road and Malcolm put his foot down to speed through it only to rip the exhaust clean off the car! What a racket all the way home and needless to say there were a few choice words from his father.
  19. I missed your post before replying to snorbens!
  20. I thought the roofline looked like that but the wheels looked to big but I see now the engine is transverse mounted which would confirm your thoughts.

  22. I went to the stock car racing at the Longman which was on the old dump which would be where the New Century House and east towards the approach to the bridge. Picture 1 K16 ?????, Hillman Minx Series 3, Ford Consul Mk2, behind the Minx is Wolseley 4/44, MG Magnette or Riley 2.6 which all shared the same body and the one behing the Consul is a Morris Oxford MO. Second picture I haven't a clue thought it was a SWB Landrover by the steering wheel but there are only 4 studs on the wheels!
