  1. No huge surprise with that line up and formation. Absolutely essential now that we take three points against Hamilton on Saturday to keep at least a little distance between us and the play off place.
  2. Both Mutombo and Storey stricken with flu....
  3. A 'wee' Cup that we were gutted not to win at Parkhead a couple of seasons ago...
  4. Has it ever been confirmed that any of the TV companies would want to broadcast it live in opposition to Champions League matches ?. That might be the simple answer.
  5. The trouble is that I do think they know what role is required of them and that they are required to stick to it come what may. More flexibility and discretion on the part of the players is required.
  6. On balance, I'd prefer our fellow Highlanders to win but only after a brutal and hard fought match going all the way to extra time and penalties on a heavy and stamina sapping pitch.
  7. League winners go into Champions League play offs. Scottish Cup winners go into Europa League qualifiers along with second and third in the league. If the cup winners have already qualified for Europe through the league then the third Europa League spot goes to fourth spot in the league. Cup runners up no longer qualify in any circumstances.
  8. Agree, Miles is a very committed player with great potential who has not been used effectively and may be lacking a wee bit in confidence. I sincerely hope we manage to sign him up for at least a couple of years in the Summer.
  9. Agree entirely, saved me the bother.
  10. I predict that the tie between Dundee United and ICT/Hibs will set a record............for the least amount of attention ever paid by the central belt media to a Scottish Cup semi final.
  11. True to say that Polworth did not have his best game but that was entirely due to him being deployed in a role to which he is neither used or suited.
  12. I agree with much of what's been said on this thread. Firstly, it's only fair to give the manager credit for a timely and effective double substitution. Within minutes of being brought on the substitutes combined to score what was a cracking goal. However, I am not sure that Yogi deserves too much more credit for today's largely dire and, sadly recently typical, ineffective performance, The goal apart, our only other notable contributions to the game were Fon William's terrific double(or was it triple) save after the avoidable stramash in our six yard box and then his even better effort at tipping Stokes's goal bound effort onto the post. That apart we are very fortunate to be still in the Cup. Even the best managers make tactical errors, the trouble with Yogi is that he doesn't seem to learn from his. He made precisely the same mistake as he made at Ibrox in the League Cup last season in treating what he alone perceives to be a 'big' lower league team with far too much respect and, had Hibs had a wee bit more fortune in front of goal Mutombo's effort would have been a mere consolation. Hibs are a lower league team, they had been on a horrendous run of form haemorrhaging goals yet until our equaliser had not once tested their 'keeper. Once again, when we were forced to be more positive and direct and only then we looked dangerous and could even have nicked it in the end but that would have been grossly unfair on Hibs. Even with our injuries we have the players to stay in the Premiership and perhaps even sneak into the top six and give ourselves a fighting chance of retaining our trophy. On the other hand, if we continue to play as we did for 70 minutes of this match relegation is a distinct possibility and we have no chance of progressing further in the Cup.
  13. I hope that Yogi does not make the mistake he made last season when we went to Ibrox in the League Cup and gave The Rangers to much respect by not only talking them up as a big team but treating them us such. Our recent form has not been great but, in the context of Sunday we are the big team, we are a division higher, our recent head to head record is a good one and we are the holders something that Hibs have not been able to boast for 114 years. No room for complacency but no need to afford them too much respect either. Whatever the bookies might say, we could and should win this tie. Hibs may be looking for some Sunshine on Leith but for them it will end in yet more sorrow,sorrow,sorrow....
  14. One game at a time is absolutely the right attitude for players and management but, without taking anything for granted, as an ordinary fan I am looking beyond and dreaming of defending our trophy in the May sunshine at the National Stadium...
  15. If Clach had, as originally intended, joined the merger would we have been Inverness Caledonian Thistle Clachnacuddin FC ?
  16. Then I do indeed stand corrected. Thanks for that very interesting information.
  17. Bon Accord had been on the lookout for someone to merge with ever since their 36-0 drubbing by Arbroath.
  18. I have never understood that both these clubs merged with Thistle but in fact merged in 1885 to form Thistle who then went on to win the first ever Highland League title. I do, however, stand to be corrected.
  19. Partick's win tonight and Dundee's unlikely point at Parkhead do little to improve our position. Our next two league games are away to St Johnstone then at home to Hamilton. St Johnstone are on an even worse run than us just now so it's vital that we take at least a point if not three from Perth and win at home against the Accies. Fail to win both matches and we could be in real trouble.
  20. We ought to avoid relegation but there is very little between the teams and the others tend to play at least one striker which could yet be our undoing. A big game at Tannadice this evening for all of the teams in and around us. The last thing any of us need is for United to build on their recent momentum and enter the mix for avoiding the bottom two places. For this evening at least....COYR !
  21. If we are fortunate enough to remain in the Premiership we cannot possibly risk going into next season again with no recognised first team strikers. The system the manager is trying to play was not particularly successful in the first place but now that other teams have worked out what we are doing and that we have no plan B it is increasingly futile and, I know Yogi likes a sideways pass but how many cheap goals do we have to concede before he realises that our own penalty area is not the place to practice that particular art. We have some very capable and reliable defenders, can we please let them defend...
  22. I know that he is a Hughes signing and thus a favourite of the manager but you only needed to watch the first half of the 2-2 match against Dundee United when he was torn to bits by very average players to appreciate that Horner is out of his depth at Premiership level. We are now, without doubt, at risk of at least dropping into the play off place. We have much better than Horner in squad. If Yogi persists with indulging with Horner that risk will only increase.
  23. I am sure that if Yogi had been able to indentify a forward at a half reasonable cost the board would have backed him. That is their history but, when it comes to recruitment, the manager's contact book seems wafer thin.
  24. The development squad are second bottom of their league at the moment and have not exactly been firing in the goals so the answer would appear to be no.
  25. Fon Williams is a very competent 'keeper, he wouldn't be on the verge of going to the Euros if he wasn't but, at his best I personally think Brill has the edge. His shot stopping and instinctive saves are every bit as good and he definitely has the edge when it comes to distribution and spotting the opportunity for mounting a quick attack from defence. I appreciate that he might be more of an injury risk but I have every confidence in Ryan Esson stepping into the breach in that event just as he did last season. Foe that reason I would, on balance, retain the Englishman.
