  1. Outstanding result and stats suggest we bossed it with 10 men. I think all grounds should be Astro - clearly suits us!
  2. Dave the Rave talking sense, anyway! Hopefully, these comments and those from Greg Tansey will get the others out of contract to see sense! Well done Dave! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30734788
  3. Loving this! My rule of thumb has always been that >1 point a game is enough for survival, ~1.5 for top six and ~2 for Europe: Winners are usually well over 2 points/game. With a few exceptions, this holds true across the seasons shown here and is also uncannily accurate for other leagues too. On Sneckboy's calculation, we'd need ~42 points for top six at the split (33 games).....so a win against Kilmarnock on saturday and a draw at Dundee United in the next few weeks will do the job!
  4. That's excellent! Let's hope the others follow and we can shut the speculation down!
  5. I hate the January window - it only serves to unsettle everybody. whether any of the rumours are true or garbage, they don't help the togetherness of any team. Of course, supporters of the big fish love it - "who will we get to strengthen our squad?" they cry. For everybody else, it's "who are we going to lose?" I'm sure we'll not escape unscathed come February - I just hope that if we do lose one or more that we get decent compensation!
  6. Good to see him being punished for cheating. I agree that it should be the player that is penalised, but I also feel some discomfort that his team benefits in the short term (by at least 2 points in this case). In the longer-term St J might pay a penalty(!) through his absence from 2 games, but that doesn't sdo us much good! Uncomfortable as it is, however, I don't think retrospective points deductions or replays etc is an option - it would just become a farce over the season. I think we just have to swallow the bitter pill and take our frustration out on Aberdeen!
  7. one thing for certain is that this won't do his form any good! My guess is that his Dad will advise him to stay another year here, cement a fitrst team place and then move on to get the kind of wage that he deserves. Celtic would not be everyone's cup of tea by any means - need a strong constitution to play there.....
  8. Shinnie rumoured to be a target for Birmingham....I'd prefer that to him going to Aberdeen, I have to say!
  9. Even if there is little activity in the window, the speculation is really unsettling: it's had an impact on us over the last couple of years. Hopefully, we can just fly under the radar this year and keep the momentum going, but I hope Shinnie and Christie in particular can keep focused when all the cr@p starts to fly about!
  10. Strange performance. Partick played the pressing game fantastically: If we're going to play the way that JH wants all the time, they need to all be at the peak of their abilities to play through high pressing teams. None were yesterday. Someone lost their man (Elliott) for the first and Brill hesitated. Second was the result of good pressure and poor technique combined. Third killed it, but the combined pen appeal/Raven disallowed goal might have changed the last half hour or so. Think Doran and Christie need to start the next one (not that Vincent was the worst). Shame to have imploded so dramatically, but sometimes teams need a kick up the b/side to get them grounded again.
  11. That's the kind of turnaround that can make a good season into an outstanding one! Fantastic - could easily have leaked points there. Well done lads - sounds like another well-deserved victory!
  12. Just a point about midweek attendances - some clubs will be hit harder than others if they play a match in midweek. First, there's a distance issue: it is almost impossible for away fans to travel large distances midweek because of work/other commitments. This will disproportionately affect home games at RC, us and Aberdire. Second, there's a supporters' demographic issue: I think it is fair to say that we have an unusual ratio of older people and young children compared to most clubs - we lack the stereotypical 20-40 age bracket. It is young kids and older folk who are less likely to be able/allowed to go to evening matches on a "school night" in the middle of winter. So, no surprise at all that last night's attendance was ~1700 less than the average Saturday afternoon gate. On this occasion, I don't think there is anything that could be done to help this because it was a replay. However, I think midweek league games should be completely avoided, except in very rare circumstances when bad weather might play a part. SUMMER FOOTBALL!
  13. Away again??! OK let's not get ahead of ourselves and do the biz tomorrow night, but yet another home draw for SEVCO and another potential away for us.....you've got to be kidding!
  14. I'm with RIG on this one Vincent drops back, Doran, Christie and Williams behind Mckay. Other option is Shinnie into midfield, Tremarco at the back and Doran in for Watkins. C'mon Inverness!
  15. Well done team! Couldn't go yesterday, but sounds like we played them off the park! Always worrying at 1-1 that the goal wasn't going to come, but very comfortable in the end. Tricky away game at Dundee next, but should go there full of confidence. Likewise for cup game at Midden
  16. RF has also been spotted helping out at youth level. Nothing more than you would expect for somebody who has indicated that he'd like to get into coaching/management and is doing his badges.
  17. You're probably right in terms of direct transfers, but with Rooney and Robson too, it feels like they're an ICT 2nd XI!
  18. We'll get next to nothing for him in January: Any offer would effectively to pay off his remaining contract. Better to keep him until May and hope he increases our winnings! Really hope he doesn't go to Aberdeen: It feels like we're a feeder club for them and we're in the same league!!
  19. Re: the ref. thought he let a few too many incidents go yesterday. The danger is that it boils over - an early card can sometimes settle it all down. There were loads of niggly incidents in the game which resulted in a few tempers (Shinnie, Tansey and one right near the end). I thought the ref handled all of these sensibly, but they might not have happened if he'd been firmer earlier.
  20. Brilliant result from an excellent game. The win was well-deserved, but Hamilton contributed to and end-to-end second half full of chances. Both of their goals were pretty stuffy: Just glad the bad luck affected us in a game that we scored 4! There's nobody to fear in this league and, if we can keep the squad together and keep the guys fit, Europe is there for the taking. That said, our bench is looking really strong just now: Christie and Doran on for Vincent and Williams - great strength in depth!
  21. There really is nothing wrong with the football standard that is being played in Scotland just now - vast improvement over the last few years and a pretty good example (in most cases) of the modern game. One of the biggest differences between EPL and Scots Premiership is the size and noise of the crowd. It is really difficult to get excited about an outstanding goal anywhere when the only crowd reaction is a couple of guys behind the goal politely clapping! Even the commentators struggle to get enthused! Not many would argue that they would be more excited by being in a packed and rocking Hampden to watch Scotland score a scruffy goal in the last minute of a poor game than by watching ICT and Hamilton play out a technically excellent match in front of ~3000 quiet fans at TCS. TInteresting how the attitude and number of your fellow customers has such an impact on your ultimate excitement of the event.....
  22. .....and yet another away cup game for us! Still, I'm not complaining because we lost our last home cup game badly against DU! Nevertheless, not counting the "neutral" semi finals and finals, I make it 10 away ties to 3 home in both cups since 12/13 season...
  23. Always difficult to get the balance between containment and having a go at Celtic park right. The best policy seems to be contain for 60 min and grab a goal late, but the risk is to sit too deep. Sounds like we were too deep in the first half, like at Ibrox. Conceded the goal at a bad time, but came out fighting in the last quarter. So, the plan NEARLY worked and, but for poor finishing, we'd have nicked a point. Agree that getting d!cked 6-0 playing an open style would have been more damaging. We can take Hamilton next week!
  24. Excellent outcome and well deserved by all accounts. The stats tell the story - let's start converting these chances (starting next week). Joint top after the first round of matches is just outstanding. Well played lads!
  25. Is that not Draper suspended for the next game too? Could have done with not losing Christie and Draper for United. Still, we've got a bit of depth in the squad, so hopefully it'll not upset the balance too much.
