  1. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34031060 Hughes is determined to find a striker before the end of the transfer window but admitted the search is proving to be difficult. "The board have given me a hand, the money is there to go and get one," he said. "It's finding one. "We thought we had one coming in on Monday but we've been let down. Time's running out." Seems the issue is not the money not being there, or the board not releasing the money either, its because the right striker is proving difficult to find. Personally I prefer this approach of trying to find a striker who has the attributes he's after and who will improve the team, rather than just signing a striker. just because he's a striker.
  2. We've had bad starts before and turned it round. I think we can. Getting Meekings fit again to play alongside Devine is a must. And having Tremarco available for 90 minutes. Just to have a solid predictable back 4. A platform to build on. Warren will be out till the new year almost certainly. I wonder if a left sided centre half on loan would work? Up front we lack both a physical presence and a pacey player who plays off the shoulder. We need on or the other, preferably the latter as it suits our game more. I'll be watching the Malmo -Celtic 2nd leg with a keen eye given that there's a potential 6 figure windfall for us if Celtic qualify for the group stages. Surely some of that could be used for a couple of short term loans or deals? It can't be budgeted for. So would be a bonus cash flow. Clutching straws perhaps.
  3. Of the now little I've seen of Lopez I can see what people are on about with Lopez. He's not quick, doesn't chase much and lacks and real physical presence. However he does have good feet. Traditional technical ability that is common to those in the Iberian peninsula. If the right balance can be found with team mates he could actually be very useful, more specifically in games we're looking to control.
  4. I'd leave it to Tansey. He likes the responsibility of dead balls so obviously has the confidence in his own ability required I'd make young Ryan understudy. The added responsibility would be great for his development and I think the added goals would increase his self confidence further.
  5. Surely with no bids having been made its in the club's long term prerogative to tie him down for another year at least. He is our top prospect. 2 years preferably. Him and his family are known ict loyal and I think would be willing to consider a new improved deal if there's no concrete alternative on the table. It would give him the security and reward his award winning full debut season merits. And he should also be aware that if a premier league club really wants and truly rates him they'll easily be able to stump up the relatively modest fee (of the epl going rate) we'd look for.
  6. Been reading that the club along with the rest of the SPL will see £150000 being paid out if Celtic beat Malmo and reach the group stages of the champions league. (as opposed to around £35000 if they don't) That's a decent amount for a club like us that's presumably not budgeted for (therefore a bonus extra). Wonder if this would allow the funds to get in the pacey or physical striker Yogi is after?
  7. In fairness Curier has a physical presence and has a knack of getting goals at this level. Not prolific by any means but has a use.
  8. Think he was looking to flood the middle of the park and let Mutumbo have a run around chasing hopeful balls alone. Wouldn't be the first time a team has went that way at Celtic Park. In the end. 4-2. Least we managed to bag a couple. Hopefully our attackers will be able to take a positive from that. Was always going to be tough. Always is. We were anhilated there last season when we had a strike force.
  9. Looks like Christie was left out as so we could pack the midfield due to us missing our usual central defence and Draper protecting them. On now as we're chasing the game. Sure he'll bag a hattrick and sort it all out....
  10. We need pace and work rate over the need for a new striker as such IMHO as we're lacking penetration and the ability to stretch the opposition. And if he can play up front it will be interesting to see how the situation develops. Billy Mckay wasn't an out and out striker when he was signed and had a very mediocre goal record. However he was converted into a goal getter. Utilising his key attributes pace and work rate. As for Lopez, I haven't seen enough of him to see if he's really an out and out striker. Some have noted a poor work rate but the British mentality of running your socks off isn't always the best option. Intelligent movement. But work rate aside he's been starved of service. We're just not creating service and clear cut chances. And not creating chances makes strikers look isolated and poor. Seems Hughes views in the Scotsman compliment my thoughts. “We’ve got a boy, Toby Ajala, in on trial from Torquay, and what we’re looking for is someone who makes defenders take a step back, because they’re strong and quick. It will give us room to play. A lot of what we’re doing is in front of teams. We need to be more cutting and dynamic in the final third. “Toby’s an out-and-out striker and looked sharp yesterday morning. He came and watched the Partick Thistle game and, hopefully, he might be the one"
  11. I'm pretty sure he's French. Brother of Paul n all They are all from Africa, Paul just chose to play for France because he's good! I think The Partick Pogba has played for his country and has a twin brother who has also played for his country and plays in France just now. Paul Pogba was born in France and plays for the French national team, whereas the other two older brothers were born in Guinea and both play for the Guinea national team. Is the other brother a striker too?
  12. We only lost to Astra because there wasn't enough competition for us domestically last season. Diddy teams like Celtic weren't clever enough to cope with our passing game as we cantered our way to the Scottish Cup. We should move to England IMO. We still lost though didn't we. Ifs or buts are Celtics domain - excuses and accusations. As far as I'm concerned we just weren't good enough. Didn't score in 180 minutes suggesting that our strikers were neither quick enough or clever enough to do so. But as pointed out by Tom English. Celtic were out of Europe before the season even kicked off last year. Who's faults that?
  13. If he's a Inverness player now then he's got my full support. The past is the past. Neither player or fan were exactly courteous towards each other after he left but it was hand bags at dawn nonsense. Let bygones be bygones. So long as he gives his upmost for the team I'm happy. And if he scores the occasional free kick against county then all the better.
  14. Well we could always take him to Vegas and he might win us a sizeable transfer kitty playing blackjack...
  15. "Aaron Doran, James Vincent and Carl Tremarco could return from injury as Inverness Caledonian Thistle add new signing Iain Vigursto the squad. But Jordan Roberts, Josh Meekings and Richie Foran are fitness doubts" - BBC. I see that's Tremarco on the bench. I imagine that the game comes a little early for the other 2 mentioned but they could be available for the weekend. As for Vigurs, well some people will get annoyed about it but in my opinion if he gives his all and showcases his undoubted ability as often as he can then he'll do fine by me. With him and Tansey we have great goalscoring potential from set pieces.
  16. He's not totally wrong, even if it's not nice to hear. Yes there are isolated occasions where the smaller teams can ruffle the feathers but over the course of a season they cruise it at a canter, and in comparison to European teams most Scottish teams fall quite short. This is shown in the evidence that all the other teams who entered European competition are already out to handy, but quite ordinary 2nd rate European teams. John Collins was just stating the obvious in the fact that playing against the likes of Adam Rooney, Juanma Delgado, Kris Doolan etc etc is not the same as facing Messi. And Yogi is right to state the fact that there is an obvious financial gap. There's no use whining about his comments. Better trying to prove him wrong.
  17. I don't think Deek has it any more. And he's widely regarded as a bit of a twonk down in the Burgh (barred from nearly every club in the city) There's surely better options out there. No kids on loan available? Wyness still playing?
  18. does eating marathons count? For our younger posters think snickers You're a right diva when you're hungry. To get a striker and a left back too that would be superb (as tremarco when fit can slot in at centre half too).
  19. I'd have taken 3 points before the game as well...
  20. Meekings isn't even in the squad! Think the back line is Raven-Draper-Devine-Williams. Other than that I'm not sure. I meant Devine. Just used to typing Meekings. Reading that Christie and Lopez are linking up well and the latter is chasing everything down. Nice to hear. Maybe just needed a few games.
  21. He's got the ability, of that there's no question. But there must be some reason he doesn't have a club and isnt still at Well. Because it's not ability that's the issue. I'm not sure we really need another midfielder either.
  22. Any idea on how the players are lined up? Back 4 of Raven-Draper-Meekings-Horner? Polworth and Tansey the midfield with Christie, Mutombo and Williams behind Lopez?
  23. Well Shinnie would walk into that Chelsea side. Hence why he signed for Aberdeen.
