Caley Jags 2017/18 squad + changes in/out
Council Juice replied to Council Juice's topic in Caley Thistle
Didn't realise that Ridgers had signed a 3 year deal. I wouldn't have thought we'd be handing out any long deals out in the championship but it looks like he's the choice to make the goalkeeper position his and settled. “To be able to move here on a three-year deal is massive. It gives me the opportunity to focus fully on football." - Press and Journal article. -
Quinn would be a solid signing. If he's available for a decent wage and wants to join, get him on board.
-
Maybe he was an exec director and is now becoming a non exec chairman and he had to resign as an executive before registering as non exec. I'm sure it's probably/hopefully just some silly technicality.
-
Still played 18 games in league last season despite knee Op. If he's fit he'd be an exceptional Championship player and one we know could make the step back up. Something likes of Warren and Raven probably couldn't do in a year.

I don't think we'd have brought Ridgers in if OFW wasn't moving on. Even if he wasn't at his best last season OFW would still be a top keeper for the Championship and there'd be no need for signing someone. He'll be on a decent wage so we can hopefully reinvest it elsewhere even if we don't get a fee. In hindsight it might have been better to cash in on OFW after the Euros last year and kept big Dean Brill as no1 who was always more commanding anyway. I imagine Ridgers will be number 1 next season backed up by Mackay or Hoban, with the other being loaned out. Esson will be coach but registered as a player as so that the loanee doesn't need to be recalled/ we're not left with 2 rookies if an injury was to come about. -
There's probably no point in registering someone at companies house until the SFA approve it. Even if it is just a formality. Or maybe we're just slow at getting things done.
-
The family home that was promised in the contract not living up to expectations perhaps...
-
He's only 21. Most players at that age tend to have not pulled up many roots unless they're something quite special. Look at Hayes record when he joined us. Hardly breathtaking. However we can hopefully provide the springboard for young players to showcase their talents. We just need to get better at maximising revenue from them.

Yeah thought he was offered one at same time as Kevin McNaughton but hadn't heard anything since. I guess we'll know soon enough. -

Did Cammie Mackay also sign a new deal? -

Has Lewis Horner left the Building? -
I'd like to think rather than being paid off so to speak, we continued to pay him until he signs elsewhere. And maybe any difference in wages if he's taken a wage cut. Seems though that the wage money is there to reinvest so any pay off appears nominal. On another note, I'm sure I've had Joe Chalmers in football manager.

Trouble being the "short time you seen him play". His Achilles injury wasn't the first injury he'd had in recent years and as a result he hadn't played much football. Having him on the books in the championship might have been seen as a pricey risk, despite his ability and experience. -
Sometimes I like to go with "no news is good news". Perhaps we haven't heard anything because there's nothing to announce.

I imagine that we won't start making a great deal of signings until the 1st of July once all contracts have expired elsewhere. Though I'd expect we'll take a number of players on trial as we get closer to pre-season games. It's likely Robbo will want to see them in action rather than just the general fitness training the players would be primarily be doing in the first couple of weeks of pre season. McNaughton was offered a new deal by Foran. The offer was put on hold when he left and Kevin was left sitting on his thumbs. Then when Robbo came in he decided that the money would be better spent elsewhere. Not ideal for the player but the club has to let the new manager make these decisions so that he can build his squad. Shame to lose Laing as well though. -

Self confirmed that Kevin McNaughton is departing. All the best. -
Thanks scotty. I'll try and keep on top of it week to week during the windows. And also on deadline days. Hopefully our injury list isn't as mad as it was first half of last season so we'll already know who's in and out of games. Either that or it can be done in "team line up for X game"

Is it not possible to edit posts anymore after a length of time? I started a thread in the main caley board and was hoping to edit the original post as information became available or changed.
-
Not necessarily. If you remember we were languishing in mid table 12 points behind Dundee and there were calls for terry to walk in the first few months of our last foray down here. Cue 24 point swing. Champions in May. It's not how you start in the championship. All about the run in. Sometimes it's better to chase early on and then peak post Christmas, keep off the radar early and once momentum kicks in let it go. The playoffs are the minimum aim.

Thanks for the update. Any idea of Mackay contract length? Bit of a shame that I can't edit the original post after a certain amount of time after posting. Was hoping to edit the first post as changes came in rather than continously copying pasting and editing little bits. -
Even if it's our own sprinkler system?!!

Started a little squad roster with ins and outs from the season past. There's gonna be a fair bit of movement I think. This might help keep track Any help noting confirmed signings in the comments and I'll edit the post to suit. Please avoid idle gossip and rumours. Just definite inward bound (contract length if possible) and departures (Destination). Also any up to date information on those I've put ??? next to would be appreciated as well. With regard to Rory McAllister, and his previous of turning down full time gigs to remain a plumber and get a high PT wage, is there anything in the rules that says we couldn't sign him for a year part time in the championship or do full time clubs have to only sign full time Players?
-
Had no idea Jason Brown had been let go. I always thought he was considered one for the future. Hopefully we can get Polworth in his natural position. Likes of Doran and hopefully Mulraney should thrive at this level. Loan players are away so will Boden remain? He could be a championship goal machine. I'll get right behind Robbo. Always been found of him as a person and he's been a great ambassador for us over the years. Admittedly the appointment has surprised and raised the collective eyebrow. You'd think there are more "current" managers that we'd have enough clout to attract by now. But he does have the experience. Also far less likely to jump ship again. Moving to Hearts was understandable. They are a bigger club and he's a legend there. But I can see him sticking around if all goes well.

Might come down to who we can afford to keep as much as anything. Draper, Vigurs, Warren and Fon Williams bound to be on a few bob.
