It's called the stock market. 2. Do you have any idea how cheap stocks are? Wall Street is now being called Wal-Mart Street. 3. The difference between a pigeon and an investment banker: the pigeon can still make a deposit on a BMW. 4. What's the difference between a guy who lost everything in Las Vegas and an investment banker? A tie! 5. The problem with an investment bank balance sheet is that on the left side nothing's right and on the right side nothing's left. 6. I want to warn people from Nigeria - if you get any emails from Washington asking for money, it's a scam. Don't fall for it. 7. What worries me most about the credit crunch is that if one of my checks is returned stamped 'insufficient funds' I won't know whether that refers to mine or the bank's. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  2. On a Russian comedy show last night they were talking about the Georgian PM who eats /chews his tie in times of crisis, some of his latest purlers were, Our team went to Scotland and beat them, good Georgian boys!! (we all know the score ) spin or what?? On visiting a sick soldier in hospital, "Have you any family?" Yes a boy six and a girl four, "Good said the PM Twins" The sad thing is these are attributed to him, in Georgian newspapers
  3. I used to fly helicopters in the Royal Navy and agree with other posts that when things happen they usually do so very quickly. I went down once and flotation bags kept us afloat till the rescue boat arrived I didn't get my feet wet. It was the main gearbox in my case. I agree with Alex , the North Sea safety record is very good considering the number of flights. As to never flying again as it is too dangerous, you have more chance of an accident driving to the airport than in an aircraft. By the way I had a car accident driving to work a couple of days ago!! only pride hurt!!!
  4. Sure as Hell it is, but it's salt into the wound when the Prime Minister shows little if any concern about the goings on... With words to the effect of... "well, it's not a big deal, it been going on for years, let's not talk about it, let's focus on something else, better for you not to know it only upsets you knowing what we get up to". I don't know which of them is the worst, the Home Secretary for "bending the rules" or the Chancellor of the Exchequer decided that he needs a few more quid out of the taxpayers pockets to put in his own. Of all fekkin people hey, he's the one who imposes his Budget on everyone else in the land. The arrogance of Geoff Hoon almost takes the biscuit, but for Gordon to play it all down when he should be clearing the decks of the lot of them beggars belief... It's not just the arrogance though, it's the bleedin' incompetence as well, check out the latest blunder from the Home Office, just shows what gobshytes they are, {is everyone asleep at the switch}, or it could be down to Jacqui's husband entertaining himself... You couldn't make it up, could you... It's a pity that it's only the Opposition who can call for a vote of "No Confidence" in the Government, rather than the voters, if that was the case these b*stards would be the ones wondering where their next job or their next shilling would be coming from. Well over here in Latvia where we have a "Crisis" official words, most of the Govt have Directorships of major companies, who surprise surprise get all the major contracts going. When a reporter asked for a register of interest of govt members he was banned from all Govt meetings and is being sued for defamation of character, by an MP whi is a director of six companies. Now far from being cynical, we ain't much different over here, the MP's take what they can as they will never be ousted , that's the way it is here. At least you have Democracy!!
  5. Make mine a vodka Is alex Rod the Mod in disguise, when I was last home I met him ( Rod) and he said fame would come... "sigh"
  6. I wasn't sure how that'd work either. Suppose the most obvious way is if the 30 "regional" teams are divided up on a season to season basis, so each year the teams are split into 3 regions based on location. Would probably mean every now and then a side on the "border" of 2 regions moves from one region to another, but on the whole it'd probably work. I have never asked you a question before, but how do you decide on who must / go stay. A lot of the players are preforming badly, at the crunch, so were you to have the chance to manage a team again, would you envisage a Good youth structure and giving them a chance , not the whole match but maybe the last 10 mins, or would you stick with the older players?
  7. Not the first choice goalkeeper, does not command the box well, but a favourite of a not farseeing coach

  9. All serious stuff and thought provoking. We have a govt in Latvia, who at best have moderate secondary education(nothing against secondary schools) they enjoyed massive inflation a few years ago, lived on the back of it, and now go with a begging bowl to the IMF and say we are broke, yet they are building a new library at vast cost to keep building workers employed! I cannot understand the logic!! The largest employers are the govt. Massive buildings, too many muppets doing menial tasks, but it keeps the employment record looking good, hence the employment stats look good to IMF. Mrs L works for a bank, and last night we went to a concert sponsored by the Govt with no cash!! I was introduced to the Finance Minister, who purports to speak English, it was like talking to a muppet, ie " our country will prosper again" if IMF money does not come, we Latvia will survive!! My application to Ryan Air is in the post
  10. Sad or what?? I despair of some of the stuff allowed on this site, and I got told off for a small mistake which caley d hasn't had the guts / time to reply to my msge, re' my warning
  11. The wee cameroon player is going to Ross County on trial, maybe you can buy him next season
  12. Watch this space, but only for you!!
  13. See my other post, he is glad to be recognised!!! and I said ages ago the national time were recognising him, That was the time to sign him
  14. Well guys, especially my friend Caley D, told you he would be in the National Squad, so one! for me, he is free from Ventspills, I know, but if you can keep him is another matter, he is now at his prime at what he does. do not believe the Latvian Press, they are too worried about recession to worry about a player who almost didn't make it with Ventspils. except the coach is a *rick. But think on this , do you pundits , not think that all things would have, been checked , prior to Pavels signing? Contrary to certain blogs, I know he is happy in Invss, enjoying his football, money is NOT his priority, of course it is nice, but as I said earlier, he has been recognised by his country, and for some, that is enough!!!
  15. :thumb04: :018: ;) aye he is that! but he's far to smart for me... At the risk of being boring, I have seen on you tuber, the British version of the Dancing on Ice, it is Terrible/. Russia has been doing the same thing for over 4 years now, with amateurs and professionals, they train for yes six months prior to the programme and it is a great show. Mrs L took me to Moscow to see the show, *old it took hours, *old, fat russian judge slating them, but it is so professional, I did suggest to the producer that they should have a contest with the UK, he laughed, perhaps he has seen You tuber as well
  16. Hell Renegade, thats grim, im proud of Scotland and im English, well to be absolutely correct English with Irish blood due to my grandfather being from Inniskilling, don't know if that irish connection is why I fit in well in scotland...But to be very honest I do truely believe that we will always be stonger as a united Kingdom/Great Britain, trouble is I dont see a lot of reason to call Britain great anymore, which is sad. There are two things that always give me a weird feeling of belonging though, one is coming into Bristol on the train and seeing the Clifton Suspension bridge, the other is coming over the hill on the A9 and looking down on Inverness. To Renegade!! I thought Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, he was Scottish , but then again you always get things wrong!!!
  17. I think being a transvestite came after kilts, so maybe you need to rethink that statement. When I first took Mrs L to Inverness, she was bowled over at how nice people were to her. Her English/ Scottish is good but accented, and as I made a Xock up booking a car she by herself got onto a bus into Inverness. she walked round for ages, maxed out the credit card.but came back to the hotel happy with bags in a taxi!!! We go back every year now when work allows, she has more friends than me, always on the net. To her Scotland is the people, we ignore the weather, worse in Latvia, for me it is like I have never been away , just that my friends like me look older
  18. Since I decided to marry Mrs Latviaman, she said that , in Latvia, we share, and that is what we do. We live in a flat so no grass to mow, but as I was in the RN, no-one irons a shirt like me, so I do them, Big Deal. We go to the supermkt together and she is so tight re' bargains you Scots would be proud of her. She buys discounted stuff you can save, as another poster, she asks a price and if she doesn't like it, just walks away as I cringe after ages of haggling. Latvia now is a poor country, I have a contract for two more years guaranteed, (pilots always get work in Eastern Europe) but many men are staying at home as they have no work. So women work as they pay them less here . So the Macho Latvia men are learning to cook, do house work, et al'
  19. So they can go, no, respopnsibility, second chance for no hopers??? c'mon renegade criticize me
  20. gosh here we go , Perm anyone from whatever we have left!!! You have no, repeat strikers, otherwise Saturday with the spirit showed , u would have won repeat NO strikers
  21. I do remember that as well, and you are right re' the "good old days " innocent but good fun
  22. You are absolutely right, too much media hype without the true facts coming out, which as you say can take up to a year.
  23. To all those who take the proverbial re' my talking players up , I love my football and reckon I have a good eye for a player. My first contact to ICTFC was via email and things went on from there. there are others over here, who are interested and yes things are tight moneywise here so Scotland , looks promising to them. Pavels is now being looked at by the LFF as potential for the national team, see what press exposure does, so as an investment? great potential
  24. Veh good, celebrating an infrequent occurance, but it was not, in this case, a "soft" penalty. I think Weir thought he would get away with it, because of "The Rules". A Brave Man, I salute Mr Murray, and his good Heelan name. Old man Weir, past his sell by date, was a numpty hence the definite penalty, end of story, good result, but mind you I have now got a Latvian channel which gives Sentana sports and watched the Rangers Hamilton match, and am not surprised that Rangers lost, against ICT,after watching the Hamilton game , Hamilton were Dismal, on that day, old numptys were playing there hearts out so they might be on a downer, so what future for the bottom three??? Question asked answers expected, except from the prophet IHE
