2008/09 ICT relegated in a 12 team league so the argument that we don't want it to go to ten to save ourselves isn't right, as we would probably get relegated from a 16 ream league on occasion as well.

Yes, with Brewster in charge the number of teams was irrelevant.

Would he have been in favour of the "16 ream league" you refer to?

Sorry, I was watching the New Labour videos from back in the day and got all mixed up.

12th man - are you arguing that a 12 team league produces better European results than a 10 team league? If so, you're going to have to do better than that. It would be very easy to list the superior European achievements of Scottish clubs in the 80's and relate that to a 10 team league but that wouldn't prove a causal link between the two. Why would 10 or 12 make a significant difference to European performance when there are so many other factors at play?

I guess it depends on what set-up you prefer as you'll always be able to find arguments to back it up but equally others will find arguments to blast yours away.

Such a radical change again won't work, has been proved before by changing the league sizes. Small gradual steps should be taken, earlier start to the season, winter break, more rules for young players etc and build from there. None of this has been mentioned, we are all and I include the clowns at the top hung up on the size of our leagues.

Thats a very good point. Now that the game is dominated by tv coverage with the majority of the wealth going to the old firm, there is nothing to suggest that other SPL teams will fare better in Europe in a 10 team league, 12 or larger. So there is no point other SPL clubs reminiscing about the past and thinking that a 10 team league will bring European success back.

So really the old firms European success whilst in the SPL has been greatly assisted by tv revenue, which of course is no longer in abundance, so there is nothing to say a 10 team league will benefit them either.
