If James Vincent (Terry's publically declared first choice) is to be out injured for a while, who should assume the mantle of our spot-kick taker?

I don't see why Aaron Doran couldn't step up! I think he'd be excellent - a wee 'faint' on the run-up, then effortlessly guiding it passed the already commited 'keeper!

Anyway, for the record, here's the list of our current squad's players' records from 12 yards. (in chronological order order from left to right,  i.e. Billy has missed his most recent 3) - still not too shabby, 7 from 10, but I agree with Terry, 3 misses in-a-row means it's time to step aside.

But I'd have no qualms about Billy stepping-up and taking one if we had a shoot-out against Dundee United in the League Cup quarter-final!

Tansey is quite clearly in pole position. That was a sweet hit at Midden and had to be as the keeper guessed right but with that kind of power and positioning it was unstoppable.

  • ...I think we should concentrate on actually getting into the penalty area to start winning penalty kicks than worrying about who's going to take them!

It technically doesn't count as a miss! He can't be given an X and a Y when we were only awarded one penalty.
For the same reason as, if he'd scored first time, but was ordered to re-take it (due to an Inverness encroachment) and netted again - it wouldn't count as two scored pens!

That's not fair saying Tansey's Missus doesn't count.

I don't know if the stats back it up (that's one for Sneckboy) but my impression is that Tansey is our most reliable spot kick taker since Paul Sheerin who's only miss that I can recall was the kinda important one in the Challenge Cup final shoot out.

Adam Rooney had a very good return also - 16 goals from 19 penalties. (I think he's currently on 14 from 14 for Aberdeen!)
Can't find a figure for Paul Sheerin, unfortunately! Thought I'd stumbled upon an old article that would reveal his stats, but to no avail - however, it was interesting to read that he 'learned his trade' from Matt Le Tissier during his spell at Southampton!  http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/sport/championship/1535451/Sheerin-I-owe-it-all-to-Le-Tissier.html

Looks like wee billy's just done what he did in the league cup final again...

Penalties aren't the strongest aspect of his game! I had a gut feeling he was going to miss. Although he's slotted-away a few for Dundee United this season, I think he missed 5 of his last 7 for us.
And again, one-on-one's were never his forte.,,as demonstrated today.
He's a poacher, an instinctive finisher in the penalty box - and is deadly when he goes on streaks of goals. But he has his weaknesses.
All that said, I'd have him back at Inverness in a heartbeat!

We got the best of him last year when he knew he was going and was scoring for fun with zero pressure, before that I don't think that he had scored for months.

If he didn't give himself such a hard time he would score heaps more.
