Both respected and feared Kevin Keegan as a player for Liverpool and England. Every time he faced Scotland (3 times the team we are now), KK almost single handedly, was the reason for our downfall.

He came after the Georgie Best era, and whilst GB had unlimited natural ability, speed and vision, (coupled to boozy benders, fags and wild nights with umpteen women), KK was the direct opposite; ie he squeezed every gram of energy, football ability and determination to succeed by sheer hard graft and an undoubtable courage.

He was an integral if not instrumental part in developing and elevating Liverpool to a superteam statue.

He can take his rightful place next to his manager that influenced him most; Shankly.

Kevin Keegan was my first football hero. My first hand football memories begin as an eight year old in 1979 and he was the England captain then. If he'd been playing in England at the time I would probably now be a supporter of whichever team he was at then. As it was his almost telepathic understanding with Trevor Brooking in the England team (the only real bright spot for England back then) led me towards West Ham.

His rapport with Newcastle was genuine, although not a geordie, and loved the club. The team he built there was, despite winning nothing, a breath of fresh air to the game. His passion shone through and the "I'll love it if we beat them!" rant still gives me goosebumps.

RIP Kevin.

Sad news.

He always seemed a real character but also a genuine guy, not to mention his incredible talent.

One of the game's good guys. Always gave 100% on the park and honest on and off the park.
