I don't think they let him go though. There was some behind the scenes stuff going on and he didn't want talks over a new deal. Indeed in his last game at QotS he played the most random selection of players in a formation he had never used before and Airdrie proceeded to hump QotS 3 - 0. McCall might even have a made a friendly farewell gesture to the crowd as he left.

I do rate his managerial abilities however, given a reasonable (or less) amount of resources he seems to do pretty well.
