Based on all these positive comments it's great to see him sign for us. I am having nightmares about Proc going up against Humphreys and Murphy, so even if there's a wee chance of this lad playing on Saturday I'll be pleased!2 points

Full time refs would be under further increased pressure - pressure to get decisions right and explain the decisions they made. Remember they are making the decisions quite often in a split-second and don't have the benefit of seeing a replay. IMHO it wouldn't be a good idea. RiG - you're a fit young chap. Ever considered doing the course and taking it up? In seriousness though, the SFA are actively encouraging more younger girls and guys go in to refereeing. I don't think the problem is with the refs per se, but more a case of the pressure placed on them. To hit Cat 1, you need to work up through the ranks doing juniors and u18 games etc - quite often on your own. Because there is so much pressure on players from parents, coaches etc this affects the behaviour both on and off the park. Of note, the physical aspect of the SFA requirements are far more stringent than UEFA. I don't think young players should be joining clubs at such an early age (as Gabby says 10 years old). They should be allowed to enjoy the game and playing it. If this pressure was removed from their shoulders, then the pressure on the refs would lessen and we would have a larger pool of refs to rely on. Another major factor IMHO is the behaviour and conduct of SPL players and coaches / managers. Youngsters look up to them as role models and emulate their behaviour and actions. The change does need to come from the top I think. I even noticed a tweet today from The Sun newspaper stating that "Neil Lennon is ready for battle against Hibs on Saturday". Sorry, it's not a battle Neil. It's a game of football. A game. The sooner people realise this, the better. What I'd suggest to anyone who goes to a football match (perhaps a lower league game or even a game at the bught) is to watch the referee and compare them to the refs who do the SPL games. It's a tough shift. Don't knock it until you try it!2 points

Hi Guys Here is another plea for our own forum users to write some articles for the main page of CTO. If anyone would like to submit articles, especially previews and reports please add your name to this thread and I will be in touch. Last season we had some fantastic previews/reports from gingerjaggy, alternative maryhill and our intrepid biker davie. I know there are others on here who could provide us with some entertaining and informative articles, but it's up to you to come forward and offer your time and effort to keep the articles flowing. We also had a guest appearance from IHE and the different styles added to the quality of the experience. I know who I would like to see on here, but I can't force it upon anyone, so don't leave it to the same handful to do all the work, share the load and share your views for the enjoyment of all site users. I will pm the editorial team once we see who is interested. Don't be shy, cliche central awaits you and we can accommodate plenty of different styles, variety is the spice of life and we can throw in more cliches than Jim on the apprentice. This is part of last seasons plea. I am trying to establish who our editorial team are. We need Previews and Reports for every match. This weekend we have Motherwell on Saturday and nobody has come forward with an offer of a preview for this game. Ideally an article should be ready for publication by Thursday evenings for a Saturday match. We can make any amendments to the article after that, but we need a bit of time to check over any article and submit it for publication on the main page. I could sit down and write every preview and every match report all season, (wife permitting), but people get tired reading the same style of article every week, and I am no expert, just keen to see the site develop and articles are always great for the visiting masses. Last season we have had a handful of contributors, with some excellent articles amongst them, notably Alternative Maryhills version of war and peace. Each to their own, and davie offers a totally different style, bit like a cryptic crossword. Some folk prefer the straight factual approach a la gingerjaggy, some like to get right to the point. All articles are correct of course because there are no right and wrong ways to do them. It's great to have individual styles as that makes for interesting reading. So, bottom line I suppose is, I need previews and reports coming out of my ears, and in time to get them published, especially previews. Previews I find, tend to take longer as there is a lot more research required to find out who is playing etc. Reports require the accuracy which can be easily gleaned by video evidence and now we are in the SPL there are usually plenty of text reports available to enable us to get the picture. Here we go then..............., are you up to doing a preview for any game. Remember these articles are for publication on the Main Page of the site which can have lots of visitors so the articles must be clean and not contain any abusive/racist/etc etc etc etc etc, I think you know the script. For those of you that have access to the editorial forum already, please copy your articles in there and we will publish them as soon as is practicable. For those without access, please pm them to scotty and tm4tj and we can upload them from there. Once we see that articles are gushing from your pen, then access will be permitted to the editorial forum. Nothing too exciting happens in there, but it means that you can post your preview/report in the correct forum and we will take it from there.........simples peeps. I will await the rush of hits on my messenger now. Anyway, cheers for listening guys and hopefully we can keep the articles flowing. yes. it will be ready before Saturday. in fact it has been created, just to add fixtures to it once all the i's are dotted and t's crossed on our fixture license (long story). you can go to the page now and "join" 2011/12 season from your profile on that page. For anyone wanting to try it this year, the login is separate from the forum login so you need to create a login and use that.1 point

I saw him play in the game against Buckie and I thought he was pretty solid. Didn't put a foot wrong and seemed reliable. He looks a bit like Aldred, and I thought it was Aldred being played at right back for an experiment. I even shouted out 'well done Tom' after a good tackle. Luckily they share the same name! If he's signed, I'd imagine for Well we will have a back four of Piemayr, Aldred, Rossco, Gillet. That's a very good defence.1 point

Many players go on trial to many teams and just because they are not then offered a deal does not mean they are not good enough. The main two reasons, other than being sh!te, for a player not getting a contract tend to be - does not add to what we have already - or - style of player not suited to style of game we play. Killie have something like 8 defenders on their books already so its likely that this player doesn't add anything to what they have but could well be suited to what Terry's after. Time will tell.1 point

Still doesn't justify the level of wage and the fact they've got a 5% increase across the board...regardless of performance. It wouldn't bother me so much if they were putting in a weeks work/training/CPD, but they aren't. Most of them seem to manage to hold down other full time jobs whilst being referees...so I doubt the hours invested in being a referee are that considerable. How can they possibly justify a full-time wage?...which is what they are getting (and more). If they want a professional wage (without complaint) then I don't think it's too much to expect them to invest the time in being professional in their training and preparation for the job and also in their performance on the pitch. I can't think of any other profession where you could be slated from every angle for your performance and then stick your hand out and expect a pay increase the following year (apart from politicians and bankers). In fact, if anyone in just about any other profession performed as poorly as most of our refs then they'd be down the job centre right now. I don't blame the refs, if I thought I could get that much money for that little work and not have to worry about performing at my best then I'd be doing it as well. It's the system that's to blame and just like every other aspect of the the way the game is run at the top level in this country....it's a shambles.0 points

Well - as per usual - I / We didnt really have to put in much effort to enjoy ourselves off the park. Bristol is a wee bit too cosmopolitan for me but the scrumpy in Bath was worth the wait. Good craic with the Rovers goalie Scotty Davies who gave as good as he got. Brilliant pub crawl on the Friday nite in Aldershot - pubs went down hill a bit after we hit the hill up to the away end - apart from the Royal Staffs - loved messing the brylcreemed hair of the wannabee casual !! Nice wee base as well but hats of to the staff and customers of the Golden Lion (even if half of them were gay!!) - excellent nite, karaoke and a superb Indian to be sick with. In respect of the football it was very much a tale of two cities - Really enjoyed Rovers as it was an attacking game with both teams going fer it - especially in the second half. Hayes made the big difference when he came on with two very well taken goals by Nicky Ross. Personally i thought that there was a lot to take out of this match - thought Shinnie looked a good pleyer and we at last appear to have a footballer in Tansey. Rosscoe and Aldred appear to be bulding up a good understanding but we were alway vulnerable wide in defence - although I thought Proctor did OK at Bristol. Aldershot game - IMHO - was a typical training match and I wasnt actually impressed by either team. To be honest they are stuffy and defensive and possibly just waht we needed but the game never took off. I thought that Proctor AND Gillet were poor and Proc's mistake fer their goal sume up his potential bombscare rating. Tokely and Aldred looked secure enuff and I actually thought that Jamie Stevenson looked quite impressive at times. We were hampered by the performances of Doran and Hayes as they appeared to have turned up fer training. Trying to feed those two much had a negative effect on Nick Ross and foran was left to do far too much running around. We are certainly a changed team in regard to trying to pass our way out of defence and made siome pretty patterns at times but mostly going sideways and rarely looked a threat in the final third - now that does worry me. Tade may sort that out but I would prefer to see Foran a wee bit deeper and picking a complimenting midfield may be a difficult task. Through the scrumpy haze i felt that TB was mell miffed and no feckin wonder.-1 points
