  1. Midweek fixtures haven't done Heart's title aspirations any harm despite a slippery derby game against Hibs, which they won with a last-gasp goal. Great to see Rangers losing a couple of points tonight against a classy Motherwell side, and so close to seeing Celtic doing likewise against rock-bottom Livi! Huge game this Sunday: Rangers vs Hearts. C'mon the Jambos!
  2. As a child I always remember looking at old records and noting the first ever winners of the (English) FA cup were simply "The Wanderers". No nonsense and definitve. I was intrigued as a youngster by the now defunct Third Lanark and always wondered what became of First and Second Lanark. Just 20 minutes up the road from me was the home of Rushden and Diamonds which came about as a merger of Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds. They got themselves into the Football League and even got promoted but suffered a couple of relegations and dropped out of the league before then getting wound up around 15 years ago. The most successful club in Wales' domestic league is The New Saints but this is a new name which came about (I guess) when their sponsor finished as they had been previously known as Total Network Solutions - both obviously being TNS. I know nothing about Marine other than they are from Liverpool but it's an odd name. Maybe an area of the city? My final offering is the Highland League team Banks O'Dee which I suppose literally describes their location but it always strikes me as a bit funny.
  3. Gala Fairydean and Vale of Leithen. London’s hipster club Dulwich Hamlet.
  4. Could maybe include Solihull Moors. Like us, they are merged club between Solihull Borough and Moor Green. Much the same way as MIlton Keynes Dons [I mean MK is bad enough without adding the Dons] although they were not a merged but a club formed as part of the controversial move from Wimbledon [Dons]
  5. Down this way there was a great tradition of coal mining and the clubs seemed to choose names of colourful flowers as a reaction to the players working their shifts in a dark hole. Ormiston Primrose Loanhead Mayflower Easthouses Lily Dundonald Bluebell Hill of Beath Hawthorn Rose - Bonnyrigg and Linlithgow Obviously a few prickly Thistles and a couple of Stars, and over in the West there’s Glenbuck Cherrypickers, Lugar Boswell Thistle, Auchinleck Talbot, Irvine Meadow, Kilbirnie Ladeside, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Craigmark Burntonians, Shotts Bon Accord, Ardrossan Winton Rovers. In the amateurs, Rothesay Brandanes. And don’t forget Hamilton Academical in our own division…
  6. I think that’s being charitable to Stenny 😂 Just like the two league games against us (can’t comment on the KDM game) there was only one team trying to win. Gary Naysmith has done a great job with limited resources (as you would expect from someone who went to my old school 😉 ) but this percentage football would make your eyes bleed.
  7. Shhh...don't mention Remi He's been class ever since he joined us, and I was amazed he stayed with us over the summer, but says much about him that he wanted to [there is a bit of the Marc Guehi about him in playing style and presence]. I hope he has hitched up to a nice Inverness lady who will influence him to stay if we get promotion
  8. I thought we were really good yesterday and could easily have doubled our goal tally. Solid at the back and with good interplay in midfield to set up a lot of chances. After scoring early it looked certain we would get a 2nd before long, but chances went a begging and slowly East Fife began to believe that they might get something out of the game. Then Allan came on and we immediately looked more threatening again and it was he who gave us breathing space with a curling shot which left the East Fife keeper rooted to the spot. Zimba will be disappointed not to have been on the score sheet but he provided 2 assists. His 2nd was a delightfully weighted little flick on back to Allan to set him up for the shot. It was good to see a good number of shots being taken rather than trying to walk it into the net. A good few flew a little wide or high but it looked to me that players have been told to shoot to get it just inside the post rather than simply "on target". What was disappointing was that the crowd was down on our last home game against Alloa. If people missed the game so that they could watch on TV a game played by men with funny shaped balls, then you definitely made the wrong choice.
  9. Scottish football has been enriched by the Campbells. Really looking forward to the final game against them this season if only to hear Dick's post game analysis. The complete opposite to Derek Adams. That said, what a contrast it is to be an ICT supporter this season. Another great win yesterday.
  10. Inverness looked a we bit better than us
  11. After a first half of missed scoring opportunities it was in the end a comfortable and deserved victory over an average opponent in EF. Whilst AlfieS was MoTM (deserved IMO) and Paul Allan’s goal was the pick for me, I feel a word is merited for Remi’s performance and all round contribution yesterday. It was a great tussle he had with the big lad Oladipo (No 25) and came out the winner more times than not. Oladipo was good at holding up the ball, had good feet for someone his size, and if better served could have tested our defence more. Remi can easily play at a much higher level. A good test for him would be the Championship. Thou the attraction of playing back in England may be appealing I hope he says around for next season. I suspect some admirers are already thinking about what package would be required to attract his attention. I know every player is ‘for sale at the right price’ however Remi (for me) is a player that we need to retain if possible . bc
  12. That's an impressive flag! I'm booked to go to East Fife away in April, so could be fun to take it up
