  2. Ten man Inverness hold out for all three points After Josh Meekings received his second yellow card it was all hands to the pumps for Inverness as Aberdeen surged forward in the second half. However Inverness held out for all three points after Gregory Tade scored the only goal of the game early in the first half to ease the Highlanders relegation squeaks. He also squandered a great opportunity to seal an easy victory after scuffing a shot past Brown's post in the second half, but as time would tell, the Dons misfiring strikers were unable to trouble Jonathon Tuffey and we held out comfortably........................ Terry Butcher had to reshuffle the pack just before kick off as regular goal minder Ryan Esson tweaked his groin and will be a doubt for this Wednesday against St Johnstone. His place was taken by Jonny Tuffey who proved to be an adequate replacement for Esson as he kept a clean sheet whilst keeping Aberdeen at bay during the second half siege, especially after Josh Meekings walked for his second bookable offence. Nothing sinister, just a tad clumsy from young Josh. Esson's absence catapulted young keeper Scott Mathieson out of the stands and onto the bench. Ross Tokely partnered birthday boy Roman Golobart in the heart of the defence and Graeme Shinnie fitted in at left back in place of the injured Kenny Gillet. Owain Tudur-Jones made his long overdue start with Tansey, Foran and Sutherland in the engine room and Tade and McKay were the front runners. Coastal fog kept the sun away, but it never stopped Inverness from making a bright start to the game and as our Marchers will tell you, our bright start got even brighter after 10 minutes. The marchers will provide the full match report when they regroup, and sober up after a hectic week..................and here is Gringo Junior with a double header for you. "A Meaningless Encounter" - This was how this match was described by some in the media in the build up to this fixture, but both Aberdeen's Craig Brown and our very own Terry Butcher were quick to dismiss that notion. It's not too difficult to see their own reasons as to why. Jim Jefferies has been appointed as the new manager at Dunfermline following the sacking of Jim McIntyre, in an effort by their board to instill a little end of season spark to their campaign. With Hibernian just five points behind Inverness at the start of play, Terry Butchers men would be looking to increase the gap between themselves and the bottom pairing. With Aberdeen 9-points away from 6th-placed Hearts with 3 games to go before the split, Craig Browns men would be looking to hold on to the very slim hope of gaining that final top six spot with a victory over ICT, or at least look at being 'best of the rest' come the end of the season. A good number of fans travelled along the A96 to Aberdeen for what Jeff Stelling called 'a Highland Derby'. The Sky Sports presenter, who is usually so knowledgeable when it comes to his football trivia, should perhaps save that terminology for our near neighbour's arrival into the top flight next season. A 1-0 win for them away to Partick Thistle means they need just 6 points from their remaining 7 fixtures to secure the First Division title! Onto the match itself and what a day for football it was. The weather over the week had seen temperatures in the area reach the high teens, but the hint of mist and a slight breeze off the North Sea made the playing conditions almost perfect. The pitch didn't look too bad either! Ryan Esson, who has been fantastic all season for Inverness, was injured in the warm-up and replaced by International goalkeeper, Jonny Tuffey. Johnny Hayes and Kenny Gillet didn't make the trip to Aberdeen due to Injury, and Owain Tudor Jones was to make his first start since recovering from his own injury nightmares. Aberdeen made just one change to the side that lost to Motherwell last week, as Rory Fallon was dropped to the bench in place of Mitch Megginson. The away support were in full song from kick-off, and it wasn't long before they had something to really shout about. Despite a fantastic save by Jonny Tuffey in the Inverness goal following a cross-come-shot by McArdle in the first minute of the game, it was Inverness that broke the deadlock after some fine play between Gregory Tade and Billy McKay. The tall Frenchman neatly flicked on a clearance to the feet of McKay who did well to nip past his marker, round Jason Brown and slot the ball square to Tade. Tade simply bundled the ball, and himself, into the Aberdeen net to put Inverness 1-0 up after less than 10-minutes! Aberdeen didn't seem to get into the game and more chances were forthcoming for Inverness. Tade, who was winning most of the headers against his marker, was able to create a few snippets with his delecate flick-ons, and Billy McKay was having one of his best performances for the club since signing on from Northampton Town. Greame Shinnie was fantastic at left-back, and even had the confidence on one or two occasions to take on the Aberdeen midfield. ICT Captain Richie Foran commanded the midfield well and even got in on the action in front of goal. With only one goal to his name this campaign, he could have doubled his tally, and the score, when he found himself inside the box and should have done better with an effort that was well cleared by Kari Arnason on the goal-line. A cleaner strike either side of the Aberdeen defender and it would have been 2-0. Penalty decisions have eluded Inverness for in excess of 12 months and they were again to miss out in the first half after Sutherland was tripped in the box following a through-ball from Foran. With referee Finnie waving away the players' claims and a weak Scott Vernon effort the only noticable points of the first half, the Caley Jags ended the half the better team. Halt Time:- Aberdeen 0-1 Inverness CT As much as Inverness were the more dominant of the sides in the first half, they were a far cry from watching Brazil. They would certainly need another goal to provide a little comfort and settle any nerves. Unsurprisingly there was to be no substitutions for Inverness CT at half time, although Arnason was replaced by Pawlett in an effort to tighten up the Aberdeen midfield. Aberdeen came out of the blocks in the second half and reduced Inverness to just the rare break, consisting mostly of the famous Caley Thistle long-ball punt up the park, with Tade and McKay trying to latch onto the end of it. A bombardment of balls into the box saw Golobart and Tokely worked fully for the first time in the match. Golobart in particular, who celebrated his 20th birthday mid-week, was solid in clearing the Inverness lines, much to the joy of the travelling supporters who would chant his name with every touch! Graeme Shinnie, who had also performed well in the first half, was lucky to get away with not conceding a free kick on the edge of the box as he appeared to push the ball away with his hands after slipping over under pressure. But Aberdeen were not to be denied a little fortune when Josh Meekings saw red for two second half yellows, both of which were received following clumsy late challenges. The second being on Scott Vernon as he skipped the ball past Meekings, and his trailing leg was caught by the Inverness number 26. There was certainly no complaint from Meekings as he turned immediately towards the tunnel, head bowed. With Inverness now reduced to 10 men, Aberdeen had half and hour to make their extra man count. Piermayr replaced McKay for Inverness as Terry Butcher tried to tighten the back line and keep the Dons at bay, shortly after Craig Brown had put on an extra forward, Chalali in place of midfielder Clarke. Although Aberdeen were pressing and Caley Thislte were down to 10-men, it was Gregory Tade who came closest to changing the score-line after he latched onto a long ball from Golobart. Cutting inside and with his eyes on goal, he scuffed his effort straight at Jason Brown and Tade's frustration was clear to see. The travelling fans were in full voice despite the Aberdeen pressure and after Tade went off for treatment, he returned to the park with a change of shirt, without name or number printed, to chants of 'The Man With No Name'. Chalali and Vernon were beginning to link up well for Aberdeen, yet they continued to misfire as shot after shot failed to trouble Jonny Tuffey. Chalali was, however, to have Aberdeen's best chance for an equaliser by creating space just inside the Inverness box and driving a shot hard towards goal. Jonny Tuffey was equal to the challenge and got a strong fist to the shot to see the ball out of danger. As the game drew to a close, the Inverness fans were still in full song and encouraging their side to push out after every clearence. It was a credit to the stewards to allow the travelling fans to stand and chant for more or less the entire fixture. With Fallon replacing Megginson for the final 10 minutes, Steve Williams replaced Owain Tudur-Jones for the away side to keep the back line solid. Aberdeen became desperate, with even goalkeeper Jason Brown taking throw-ins whenever the ball went out in the Aberdeen half, and a dive from Chalali on the corner of the box saw him yellow carded as Inverness held out for a hard fought victory. Full Time:- Aberdeen 0-1 Inverness CT Delight surrounded the travelling supporters as cries of 'Inverness, Inverness' echoed around the stadium. With each player that approached to show their appreciation, their name was chanted, and not a single soul left their seat until the last player had ventured down the tunnel. A truly fantastic result, and with the Pars and Hibs both dropping points, this 'meaningless encounter' clearly meant something to the Inverness faithful. Next up for Inverness is their re-arranged fixture with St Johnstone which was initially meant to be played at the turn of the year. The 3-points gained from this win sees Inverness close to within 2 points of the Dons and 6 points of Kilmarnock who take up 7th. I wonder if the media again will see Wednesday as another meaningless affair, considering the Saints have already consolidated their place in the top-six? Great report from Rob and as a bonus, here is the Highland March Training Report: I had the pleasure of walking to this game from Elgin as part of my training for the forthcoming Highland March, which sets off in 6 weeks time. CapitalCaley (Mark MacRae), who took part in last year's venture, joined me on the jaunt to Aberdeen which would see us cover a distance of nearly 70 miles. Initially planning to follow Cycle Route 1 all the way (90+ miles), we had to take into consideration the fact we were doing this without a support vehicle. The plan was to camp each night so as to keep costs down, and the added weight certainly slowed us down. We set off from Elgin railway station at 0645 on Wednesday morning and headed along the A96 for 2 miles before turning off on the back roads to Garmouth. Our back packs were pretty heavy and with the sun beaming down on us for the entire day, it was tough going. Despite this, we managed to reach Cullen well in advance of our intended arrival time. Cullen was our planned over-night stop, but with more hours of daylight ahead, we continued on for a further 10-miles and bunked down at Cornhill. A special mention here to the 'Peggy Duffs' bar (Gordon Arms) in Cornhill. The landlady and her customers were more than accommodating and extremely friendly! After waking to noisy crows on Thursday, the pace was extremely slow as the aches, pains and blisters of Wednesday didn't want to let off. The planned end of stage was Turriff, yet with this being just 13 miles away, we had again revised our intentions and looked to make Oldmeldrum instead. Unfortunately, for myself at least, my legs couldn't seem to carry me much further and we wisely called it a day after our lunch stop in Turriff. We did, however, make the most of our afternoon by skipping the next few miles and getting much needed rest, sorted out the feet, grabbed a beer and enjoying the shade. It was again a good decision to ditch the tents and take the opportunity for a comfy room and a shower, yet the price tag per single room left a little to be desired! Sceptical here that 'the last two rooms' were in fact the last ones, as we didn't see anyone else around the establishment for the entire time we were there. Oh well! We knew we could make Dyce, or even Aberdeen, by the end of Friday, but our concern at this time was for the busy main road linking Turriff with Aberdeen. In typical Highland March style, we simply went for it and made our way along the grass verges. At Tarves we were able to once more link up with the cycle route and we followed this all the way into Dyce, making sure we sampled a pub lunch (and a cold pint) upon reaching Newmachar. In typical 'Bear Grylls' style, we headed to the Britannia Hotel on the A96 at Bucksburn for a cheap nights kip and must again praise the bar staff who were doing well to keep the beer flowing in the busy village bar. Our final jaunt was a 6 miles trip to Pittodrie via the railway station (so we could dump Capital's baggage), and it was great to see some friendly faces disembark on the train from Inverness as we arrived at the station. Pre-match drinks at the Caledonian were very welcome, and I must admit it was great to get a seat on the Travel Club bus home. This was only a training walk for the pair of us, but thanks to social networking, we were able to keep people up to date, receive words of encouragement, and ultimately place our bets for the 10p Bowling antics of which we take part Thank you to those that wished us well for this tough training session. It's certainly kicked me into touch before the main event on May 5th. I just hope we avoid Kilmarnock and St Mirren!!! 24th March 2012 Scottish Premier League Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen Aberdeen 0 - /media/images/club_badges/aberdeen.png TEAM: Brown, McArdle, Reynolds, Considine, Robertson, Clark (Chalali -58), Arnason (Pawlet -46), Jack, Rae, Vernon, Megginson (Fallon -68) ; SUBS: Langfield, Mawene, Mackie, Magennis; Booked: Mcardle, Chalali, Rae Sent Off: none Inverness C.T. 1 - Tade (10') /media/images/club_badges/inverness.png TEAM: Tuffey, Meekings, Tokely, Golobart, Shinnie, Tudur-Jones (Williams -83), Tansey (Proctor -68), Foran, Sutherland, Tade, McKay (Piermayr -60)- SUBS:Mathieson, Ross, Morrison, Winnall Booked: Shinnie, Meekings Sent Off: Meekings Referee S Finnie Attendance 8939

Classic clip .... Teasdale rampaging through the opposition defence and a few neat flicks and backheels ... oh those carefree days
  4. For the replica football shirts, I would agree that in my personal opinion, Errea is not good. This may be my bias in terms of the sizing too, but I have always felt the quality is "iffy". Having said that, I still have, and wear, a couple of Errea branded ICT polo shirts that must be nearly 8-10 years old and with the exception of a small pin-prick hole in one of them, they almost look as good as new !!!!! Those were top quality. Adidas produce all MLS team shirts and the difference in quality and "attention to detail" in their offerings is instantly noticeable. However, sizing is also an issue as they only go to XXL (which fits me). I'm a bit old for wearing skin tight tops now anyway ... so as long as I can get a couple of decent polos every so often I am good !
  5. Fox ... owned by a certain Mr Murdoch of "SKY" ..... will now show games, shared along with ESPN .... pretty much in the same fashion as they already share them in the UK. The Fox channel basically gets all its feeds from SKY. So Fox USA will get SKY games, with SKY commentators and ESPN USA will get ESPN games with their commentators ...... this is just a channel shift, not extra coverage. Fox Soccer and Fox Soccer Plus (read SKY Sports 1 & 2) basically got the rights back and killed off Setanta USA in the process so its "re-branding" rather than anything else. This deal is also USA/Carribean only not "North America". In Canada, until last season, Setanta was still alive as a brand name and showing games. Setanta Canada is now "Sportsnet World" and continues to show primarily EPL games along with FA Cup, and some SPL. Fox Sports World Canada has no rights to UK football. A very Chick Young-esque style comment. plenty sarcasm but little knowledge displayed ! I know you were probably trying to be humorous but .... it didnt work ! A lot of people try to run down "soccer" over here, but just for the record, TV coverage of the game over here doesnt involve multiple commercial breaks, the commentators may call it "soccer" but the fans call it football, and the attendances and viewing figures to start the year have been pretty spectacular ..... 47,000+ for Toronto FC's first game, 37,000 in Seattle for the Toronto game on Saturday night and an amazing 59,000 in Montreal for their game on the same night..... On TV, the first game of the season, Vancouver -V- Montreal drew a Canadian TV audience of somewhere just over 541,000. That might not sound much, but that's Canada only, not Canada/USA and the average Ice Hockey game in Canada draws about 700,000 ...... oh and for the sixth season in a row, Toronto FC have sold out their season tickets so thats around 19,000 of the 21,000 seats at BMO field accounted for for the rest of the season ..... If as much time went into learning about or cherry-picking some of the good initiatives from various other leagues around the world as went into lambasting or looking down on them, Scottish Football might have actually moved forward sometime in the last decade instead of stagnating ! It will have zero effect. Its the same coverage, just the names have been changed .... and in terms of live football, its going to be the same stuff as shown on SKY !
  6. lots of sour grapes going around on the west coast just now after TFC beat the Galaxy in Los Angeles on Wednesday night. Just got my ticket for the semi-final 1st leg today ... TFC -V- Santos Laguna of Mexico .... a whole different bucket of burritos, thats for sure
  7. Bobby made it to the final five !!!! : https://apps.facebook.com/tfcdreamjobfinalists/contests/196291/prize_giving
  8. the rules give the club the option of choosing who they want ... or no-one at all !!! think this stage ends at midnight today (4am your time as our clocks went forward last week) .... and then the final 5 are chosen .....
  9. Toronto FC are running a contest right now to find someone for the "Dream Job" The job in question is someone to be the "face of the club" and travel with the team to games, conduct player interviews for TV and Web and generally become the media darling for the fans. The first round is over and no, I did not enter - there were far better candidates, but one of my friends, and a total diehard supporter is in the running. Bobby is the "capo" at the front of the supporters section and leads the chants at every home game .... He buys his season ticket like everyone else, but unlike everyone else, when the game starts, he turns his back on the product he paid to watch, and instead choreographs and encourages the supporters to make some noise !!! If there ever was a 12th man, he is it ! The problem, as with most competitions, is that some of the others are ringers with no affiliation to the team, and who are not "real" supporters but are applying hoping that they get it as part of their media degrees .... 5 of the finalists come from the University of Windsor about 2-3 hours drive west of Toronto (right next to Detroit) and one of them even thought the "Skydome" (or Rogers Centre as its officially known now) was actually BMO Field !!!! They are getting loads of votes as they encourage fellow students to vote for them for the position so I am now asking the same from my Facebook, Twitter and ICT/CTO friends ...... if you are willing, please go to the link below and vote for Bobby Brasz !!!!! Here are his promo videos created by fellow supporters (his voice is croaky as he had just led the chants at the TFC -V- LA Galaxy game the night before and unlike the other candidates, he did not take advantage of, or boast on twitter about, the free passes and VIP treatment that was offered) and here is a bang on the money article from a well known local journalist http://www.canadians....php?2935-Bobby Bobby deserves this job !!!! You should be able to vote here (sorry, no direct link as I cant access Facebook at work): http://bit.ly/z7m1Cn this link should work i think: https://apps.faceboo...oteable_entries
  10. no problem with them groundsharing ..... we would not have got into the SPL if it wasnt for Aberdeen agreeing to it and we should be amenable to returning the favour to another team .... even County ! I can see the logic behind the March 31st deadline but realistically its a crock of **** . Most seasons, where there is no runaway leader, it can put teams under a lot of pressure to spend money they perhaps dont have to upgrade their stadium on the off-chance that they win the league. I have always maintained that the team that wins the 1st division should be guaranteed promotion, regardless of their ground facilities. They should be given two options. (1) upgrade their ground before the start of the season as County hope to do and be able to use all parts of it in the SPL, or (2) upgrade by the end of the first SPL season, and only use those parts that meet the all-seated criteria. This would allow teams to use the increased revenue from the SPL to pay for ground improvements and maybe prevent some potentially horrible financial problems.
  11. Deepest and sincere condolences from myself and from Christe to Laura and family. Was shocked when I heard this yesterday and still really cant find the right words .... Its always the good ones that are taken too soon !
  12. Scotty replied to Sonam's topic in Caley Thistle
Football is a roller-coaster ride ..... and for most of us that don't support perpetually successful teams, this should be the design of our stadiums !
  13. Stefan Frei - GK: a bit like Esson and under-rated by many including his country (in this case Switzerland), one of the best shotstoppers in the league. Like ICT, TFC also have a good understudy occupying the Jonny Tuffey position. Milos Kocic plays in most cup games (sound familiar?). Torsten Frings - Former captain of Germany and the current TFC captain. Since he arrived, the midfield now has a general and even at 35 he still covers every blade of grass during a game. Hugely important player for the club this season. Julian DeGuzman - Canadian International, designated player, playing better now since Frings came along as all the expectations are no longer on him to produce something all the time. Richard Eckersley !!! - A loan signing last year from Burnley who has now made his move permanent. Great fan favourite despite being a bit raw. Solid, reasonably skillful for a right back and scared of nothing. also a 'ginger' Danny Koevermans - former Dutch international who was scoring an average of a 2 goals every 3 games when he arrived last season along with Frings. Going to be very important player this year especially as coach Aron Winter has filled out the squad with quite a few skillful youngsters who will be looking to shine under his (and Frings') mentorship. Jaoa Plata - Another loan signing from last year who has now signed a permanent contract. 19 year old Ecuadorian international who is just under 5' tall .... but like many small players, he is (or was) underestimated by the opposition. He's a flying winger who can make things happen when he gets the ball and always delivers excitement ..... There are also a lot of exciting younger players in the squad and its possible that one or more of them may breakout this year and shine .... just 5 years after forming the TFC Academy, there are already 6 graduates in the first team squad .... and they are there entirely on merit !!! Doneil Henry, Oscar Cordon, Nick Lindsay, Keith Makubuya, Ashtone Morgan, Matt Stinson ... 3 of them already capped for Canada at either U21 or full level.
  14. yeah .... pretty standard at any sporting event over here ... prices of beer and food are through the roof ..... Beer = about $2.50 - $3.00 a can in the "beer store", about $6 - $7 a pint in the pub ..... and anything from $9 - $13 for a full sized can at the games ... after many years of not having been able to enjoy a beer during games it makes it easy for me to do my drinking before and after !!!!

  16. Own Golobart makes a point Roman Golobart scored a fabulous goal full of Spanish flair to lift the doom and gloom at the Caledonian Stadium and earn a point for Kilmarnock. Unfortunately the fabulous goal was at the wrong end as he chipped a ball high into Esson's goal just like Messi. He also earned a point for Inverness after bundling home a ball on the goal line to deservedly give Inverness a share of the points, no more than they deserved. A rare sighting at Inverness yesterday, Sam Winnall made a start to help out Billy McKay in attack with Hayes out with a hamstring injury, and the injured Kenny Gillet being replaced by Graeme Shinnie at left back. Kenny Shiels rested some players with the League Cup final looming next weekend and started with Heffernan and Fowler on the bench. It was a lively start to the game for the new front pairing as they darted around in sprightly fashion and McKay offloaded a shot inside two minutes, but like most of todays twenty odd attempts it was off target. Winnall made Bell earn his crust as he scampered into the box and fired one goalwards after McKay was upended, this time on target but Bell saved well diverting the ball for a corner. What were Killie doing while we were trying to attack their goal; well nothing really. We were dominating the game while managing to look toothless up front, but the effort was there, well it was until Gnakpa came on later in the game. Tansey forced Bell into another top drawer save as he managed to get one low enough to make the keeper work. That was a bit of a rarity as well, a Tansey shot on target, but normal service would be resumed as Tade fired one high over when well placed. Killie did manage a corner as they ventured forth but no damage to the home rearguard as Esson cleared the danger with a couple of swift left hooks. Then, with half an hour gone, we conceded an own Golobart. Classy young Spaniard Roman Golobart in attempting to clear a Harkins centre lifted the ball into the roof of Esson's net in spectacular fashion from ten yards. He appeared to be caught in three minds, neither heading clear, hoofing over the bar or knocking back to Esson, he simply did the difficult thing and put the ball where Esson could not reach it, right in the top corner. Stunning! Messi eat yer heart out. This was against the run of play, where have I heard this before. Tade managed one on target before Tansey shot over, high and wide. I see a pattern forming here, a sort of one on, one off..... The hard working Richie Foran blocked a Silva effort as the game flow levelled out and before the break Golobart tried to make amends but his shot was mistimed and Bell collected comfortably. Half Time 0-1 (ouch) Second half started like the first, early effort from Sutherland this time going well over. Tansey narrowly missed the target as he dragged a low shot just wide of Bell's right hand post from the edge of the box. Golobart and Bell clashed going for a fifty fifty ball and Bell took some time out for a knock with the referee mysteriously awarding a free kick for the sliding challenge. Tade put one on, one off as we forced the pace of the game but the breakthrough looked like being always out of reach. Killie were being pushed onto the back foot and little was seen of their attacking intent. Winnall was next to miss the eight yard wide target and that was about it on his first start which had begun promisingly. A baffling substitution then raised a few hackles when Gnakpa replaced the industrious Tade, or should that be industrial. Not a popular decision as would become evident by Gnakpa's lack of interest in the proceedings, and Ross replaced the unfortunate Sam, this change proved more worthwhile as Ross was able to hold the ball and find players with his tight passing. Tom, Dick and Harry were having a go now, as Meekings and Sutherland shot high and wide again. It looked as though it was not going to be our day as Foran did well to burst into the box, unfortunately his clipped shot was blocked brilliantly by Bell and Foran knew he should have done better. With time running out and luck on the visitors side, up popped Roman at the right end to knock home the equaliser after McKay had knocked the ball goalwards. Olé. The move had began with some good Inverness pressure and when the ball came back to Sutherland on the right wing he whipped an excellent ball into the box and Richie Foran acrobatically volleyed the ball goalwards, Cammy Bell made a tremendous reflex save before McKay nodded it into the feet of the Spaniard. Relief all round and still time for a winner. However, instead of settling us down, we started to get jittery and Kilmarnock suddenly woke up. They produced a series of corners in a frenetic finish to the game but in fairness, we held firm and Esson eventually had some work to do as he saved from Nelson. It was squeaky bum time now, but the ball was kept out and the game slipped into full time. Full Time 1-1 Strange game to assess as every fan at the game saw a different picture. It was entertaining enough without setting the heather on fire and but for squandering numerous chances that came our way we should have won in style. But that's not the Inverness way just now and a point each it was. Despite scoring an own goal, Roman Golobart was my MotM and showed great confidence to come back from his first goal to eventually force home the equaliser. Richie Foran ran himself to a standstill, unable to run near the end and Shinnie, Meekings and McKay tried their best. The one downside today was our inability to hit a target than stands eight yards wide and eight feet tall in old money. What do we practice? Cammy Bell was probably deserving of the games MotM as he made a few excellent stops to keep the score down. One further pat on the back goes to the nurse who entertained the North Stand. 21. Wasnt a league match, it was the first leg of the quarter final of the CONCACAF Champions League. As CD mentioned above, its basically North and Central American version of UEFA so like UEFA, refs come from one of the member countries ... and he was a beezer !
  22. I fall into the neither satisfied or dissatisfied camp too !!! We are in 10th spot, selections, performances and tactics have been questionable in some games, and we perhaps could and should have had more points if that was addressed. However, this season has been like no other in terms of injury so the manager rarely, if ever, has been able to field what is the strongest 11 in his mind. I am also mindful of the fact that his "presence" in terms of PR and motivation is a positive factor for our club ... and that is demonstrable ... On more than one occasion in the recent past, ICT has been mentioned in football conversations by me on this side of the pond, and even if the person has not heard of the club, they most certainly have heard of the manager and the opinion from those that didnt know anything of the SPL was "oh, you must be quite a big team then if an England legend is your manager!!!" The report card says "must do better", but its not time to make him stand in the corner with a big conical hat on just yet !!!
  23. ... no, not really. I was there though and the atmosphere was great !!!! 47,000+ fans, loads of noise and the prospect of a (unexpected) victory against the current MLS Champions and Supporters Shield winners who had Beckham, Donovan, Juninho, and Robbie Keane in their starting lineup ... especially when we went 2-0 up within 17 minutes ..... The beer can thing was blown out of proportion ... 1 can, 47,000 fans ... surprised there wasnt more (there probably was, but at $13 a can, perhaps not as many as you might think). Only downer of the night was that douchebag Donovan scoring right at the death, from the corner that Beckham took just after the can incident. Other than that TFC played really well and matched the champs all over the park. Aron Winter strayed from his usual 4-3-3 formation and went 3-4-3 on the night with Torsten Frings playing deep as an extra defender at times ... a very fluid system that took LA by the scruff of the neck initially but settled down into a tactical battle after that. Beckham had a decent game overall, but like the SPL, the talking point was some of the referee decisions. The ref was from Jamaica and like a lot of CONCACAF refs was not up to the task. you can see my gallery from the game at: http://tfcpics.com/index.php?/gallery/album/227-2012ccl1-tfc-v-los-angeles/
