Toronto FC -V- Bolton Wanderers
Its not just stadium rules its SPL and/or higher up rules that prohibit "match pictures" from being taken by anyone other than accredited photographers. The copyright issues are draconian. Its a crock really as I have taken well over 5000 snaps for tfcpics.com in the 3 and a bit seasons TFC have been around

Caley Jags strike oil with Orion shirt link
[caption id="attachment_2060" align="alignleft" width="419" caption="© Trevor Martin Photography"][/caption] Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC stars Richie Foran and new signing Gil Blumanshtein took to the water today (Thursday) as the team's new strip for their return to the SPL was launched. The launch took place at a North Sea oil rig to mark their new shirt sponsorship by international energy recruitment specialists Orion Group, whose headquarters are in Inverness. The shirt, with Orion branding, will make its competitive home SPL debut against Celtic at Inverness on August 14 and will be available to buy in the club shop from *9am Friday morning (23rd July) Foran said:" We're all impressed by the new strip and we're very pleased that Orion, a locally based firm with an international presence, are our main sponsor. There's great excitement in the dressing room as we prepare for life in the SPL, along with a determination to make our mark." The players travelled by boat from Invergordon to the oil rig in the Cromarty Firth for the unique photoshoot. Alan Savage, chairman of Orion Group which has 29 offices across the world and a former chairman of the football club, said:" The rig setting reflects our major energy and engineering dimension and we felt it was an appropriate link with which to kick off our new relationship with the club which we hope can bring fresh success to Caley Thistle. "Terry Butcher and his team have become so important to the city and the wider Highlands and bringing top-flight football back to the area is something we're extremely happy to support and be associated with on an ongoing basis." Club chairman George Fraser said:" The new strip follows our signing a two year main sponsor deal with Orion Group worth a six figure sum which has been of significant value in our planning and budgeting for the SPL. We look forward to continuity in our association with Alan Savage and his firm at this vital stage for the club." Manager Terry Butcher said:" The new strip, which has arrived from Italy, is impressive and we hope the fans snap them up in large numbers. We're working very hard in our preparation for the new campaign and the Orion Group connection has been a real boost to the players." The sponsorship deal is part of Orion's Community Vision programme which sees the company support a number of charities and organisations within the Highlands, including Highland Hospice and Marie Curie Cancer Care. Orion Group recently finished 42nd in the Sunday Times list of the UK’s fastest growing companies internationally. * The new adult home top will be on sale from 9am tomorrow (Friday 23rd July) with children’s home tops available to buy from the end of week commencing 26th July.

Toronto FC -V- Bolton Wanderers
TFC play Bolton in a friendly tonight so I am going to use this thread to see how well our mobile app and mobile skin can cope with posts and photo uploads from the game ...... no idea what kind of results this kind of posting will have but if it works well we may be able to write down a procedure for people to use at ICT games !!!!!
V

IMPORTANT: Site Downtime in coming weeks
Never noticed until you said, so I tried to click 'like' on your post... and it 'failed' because I'd 'reached my quota for the day'.... it was my first one!! As i mentioned, loads of tweaks still to be applied. I have literally hundreds of setting to check and/or enable and will get to them during the course of the next few days. However, to keep things tidy, can we leave this thread for details about downtime (as per the title) and use the Tech Support forum - http://community.caleythistleonline.com/forum/14-website-support/ - where there is already a topic .... and likely to be many more ;)
-
IMPORTANT: Site Downtime in coming weeks
OK Folks, it took longer than expected --- takes a while to rebuild 260,000+ posts --- but I think we got there. Basic functionality has been restored and I will be tweaking a few things over the next 24 hours ......... have fun ;)

IMPORTANT: Site Downtime in coming weeks
OK folks - sorry about the short notice but looking at my own personal schedule and also the schedule of upcoming friendlies etc I only have a couple of small windows of opportunity to perform the forum upgrade and feel that "the sooner the better" is the best mantra as we ramp up towards the new season. As a result, and barring any unforseen circumstances THE UPGRADE OF THE FORUM WILL TAKE PLACE TONIGHT AFTER 11PM (INVERNESS TIME) This will affect the following areas of the site which will all be offline: Forums Gallery Blogs Chatroom Downloads Gringos NPL Contact Us pages The following areas of the site should be unaffected during the upgrade as these are separate areas that will be upgraded later (shortly - date TBA) Main Site (news articles, reports, previews etc) ClubGuide Pages Stats Pages Fixture List Prediction League Game During the upgrade - which should take a couple of hours, the forum will be offline as we need to perform maintenance and upgrade to several site databases and you will not be able to post as that could corrupt the process. Once the upgrade is finished there will more than likely be a ****load of broken links and other bits and pieces that either confuse you or simply dont work. We will be tweaking and (hopefully) fixing those problems as we find them and would ask anyone who notices a bug or error to note it in the WEBSITE SUPPORT forum (wont post a link as that might change during upgrade). Your avatars, posts, topics, signatures etc should all be retained during the upgrade but if you notice any infamous red crosses in your avatar or have a problem with things like signatures please reset them in your profile. Passwords should also be retained during the upgrade - they have been in all tests we have performed so far - but if you encounter a problem or just want to change it for some reason you should note that we cannot send you your password no matter how politely you ask ... quite simply, we dont know it !!! Passwords are encrypted within the system and can only be reset by the user changing it within their profile or by requesting a password reset on the login screen. password resets are sent to your registered email address. If all goes according to plan you should see a brand new (yet similar) board emerge after a couple of hours ...... There are a lot of new features in the next version of the forum software and it may take some getting used to but if there are any questions please drop them into the tech support forum where one of us (or other users who have experienced the new version of this software on another board) can try to help you.

Highlights for pre-season?
Andy was filming Clach game and as was mentioned earlier and will get something sorted for that -- but what we can when we can will be the adage for pre-season so dont expect too much.

Jonny Tuffey
A couple of nice quotes in here ..... http://www.theglaswegian.co.uk/glasgow-spo...02692-22414673/ If only they had read this thread first ..... It is not very clear ...... Tuffey celebrated his 23rd birthday in January of this year (during the 09/10 season) so if someone bought him during the transfer window or at the end of the season then it reads like there is definitely some compo due. However, the use of the word "at" makes it very murky ....... what is "at or before the end of the first season ...." ??? How long does "at" last? When does "at the end of 09/10 season" become "at the beginning of 10/11 season" and does that remove the obligation to pay compo? Also ... those rules are from the SPL handbook ..... does this match the SFL, SFA, UEFA and FIFA handbooks ??? If any of those still say 24 then the previous club could argue the case more easily ...... Great keeper and would be nice to see him at ICT but the easier route with less pitfalls and potential paperwork snafus is to redouble the efforts to retain our existing keeper who is also great !!!!

Jonny Tuffey
This thread is about Jonny Tuffey not ictfc.co.uk can we get back on topic ........ as a final word on the off topic part of this thread..... I happen to know for a fact that the club are aware of the shortcomings of the current site. Myself or Don could rip the thing apart from top to bottom in terms of our opinions but I know they are looking to upgrade it soon so please bear with them. Remember - it wasnt that long ago that swingeing cuts were made at the stadium and there is currently not the budget or personnel to make it right overnight however ... unlike the scoreboard, this item is on their agenda.

Jonny Tuffey
excellent signing and one that will push both keepers to perform to their best abilities ..... I do not remember a time in our short history when we truly had two keepers that fans would agree were top notch !!!! sure we had McRitchie/Calder then Calder/Fridge/Walker etc then Brown/Ridgers/Fraser etc but in each case - apart from maybe McRitchie /Calder in our first couple of seasons at a far lower level - I dont think there was ever a time where fans would truly be happy regardless of which keeper was between the sticks. 10/10 for this one ICT !!!

Tuffey’s in safe hands!
Inverness Caledonian Thistle have signed former Partick Thistle goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey on a two year deal. The 23 year old Northern Ireland full internationalist was a free agent after his Firhill contract expired and he sought to fulfil his aspirations to join an SPL club. Manager Terry Butcher reveals:"I'm delighted the lad has penned a two year contract as he is certainly a talented keeper whose best is yet to come. Ryan Esson is number one at the moment but Jonny's here to put Ryan under pressure, to challenge for a place and to develop as a player. "With Max Johnston, the 19 year old we signed from Newcastle United, we now have three very good goalkeepers, which is excellent for the squad going forward." Terry adds:"We're running the rule over other players and we could have another couple of signings over the next week or two." With three Republic of Ireland players currently at Caley Jags -- Richie Foran, Johnny Hayes and Adam Rooney -- Tuffey becomes their first-ever Northern Irish signing. From Banbridge, County Down, Jonathan (Jonny) Tuffey spent three years in the Coventry City youth academy before joining Partick in May 2006. He played for Northern Ireland at under 17 and under 19 level before collecting 13 under-21 caps and in November 2008 he made his senior international debut against Hungary at Windsor Park.

Score Board
Which one ... the twee crappy looking one costing between 2 and 5 grand that would make us look like even more backward time-warped cave dwellers ? or the "real" ones costing more than 50 grand ? If you think anyone would stump up that sort of cash for a decent one you are sadly mistaken and if it were to be a crappy one I would far rather have none at all ! I dont think updating the scoreline on a basic board would be a major issue, in fact it would be very easy I am sure .... its the running costs that you seem to be failing to consider. Electricity to run it, maintenance on the actual product, and if it were one of the more fully featured boards, wages for someone to operate it on a match day. it all adds up. Cigarette packet economics ? Dont think ?200-?300 would be much help ! You think so ? Especially when the same firms are being asked to sponsor players, buy programme ads, buy advertising boards, buy hospitality etc etc etc ..... they certainly would if the scoreboard looked anything like the monstrosity in that picture ! Gotta love the pillars in the middle of the stand ;)

if he gets any deal - assuming he impresses - i sincerely hope it is on a "paid if you played" basis which would reduce the risk of us paying out for a crock !

Score Board
Its a question of priorities ! the club didnt say "never" they said that there were far more things higher up the priority list than a scoreboard and I have to say I agree ..... most of us have watches so we know when the game starts and can usually work out when it will be 45 minutes later ... we also watch the game so most of us will know the score ... or if not - perhaps after waiting in the pie queue for a while - we can ask the person next to us. What would a scoreboard bring to the club? Would the benefit outweigh the cost? Where would you put it? Would you be happy to sacrifice a squad member each year to pay for the cost of the scoreboard and its maintenance and running costs? There is a huge electronic scoreboard at BMO field for Toronto FC and yes it is convenient as it shows instant replays of various parts of the game as well as the actual scores. It also carries adverts along with two other electronic boards that are off to each side of it but I would hate to think about how much it costs to run all season or how many people it takes to make sure all the ads go up on the relevant screens or the instant replays are shown seconds later. The good thing for TFC is that they have 20,000+ at every game and every game is available live on the internet or on normal telly so sponsors of the main board and on the two smaller boards are not in short supply ..... but I wonder just how much ICT would make from a scoreboard when most games will have a captive audience of 3-4K, little or no live TV coverage, and a few minutes of highlights each week that show the game and not the scoreboard !

ICT & That SPL Vote
all in all it was a complete cluster**** and as noted, the ballot was "private" so there is no way to know 100% what anyone did - or why they voted a certain way - other than taking the word of various chairmen or representatives or believing various conspiracy theories in the media ..... You could also argue about who was allowed to vote ? should Partick have been allowed to vote on a motion deciding their own fate - clearly a conflict of interest. If - as suggested by one report - they abstained then fair play to them but in the SPL an abstention is almost equivalent to a no vote so perhaps not exactly philanthropic! Should Aberdeen have been allowed to vote as they were clearly going to benefit the most financially from any groundshare? Again a potential conflict of interest? with almost every other vote, teams may have had other "political" issues to consider - a share of the parachute payment if no-one went down, not wanting to have the expense of travelling to Inverness twice a season, fearing the size of travelling support ICT would bring to games in the central belt, etc etc etc - all in all not very democratic and certainly not focused on developing and improving the game or the teams who make the effort to try and get to and then win D1 ! As I posted above, I would definitely favour a rigid system of promotion/relegation. None of this 'no relegation' on a technicality. If you finish last you go down end of story. If you finish top of the division above then you go up end of story. Have reccomended minimum requirements in terms of facilities for each league and if a team going up does not already meet those requirements give them a full season in the league above (with the extra revenue) to meet those requirements. If they cannot or do not meet that requirement by the end of that season then they are automatically relegated along with the team finishing last so we dont have any further instances of teams staying up on a technicality.
-
ICT & That SPL Vote
I would agree ..... In my mind, and I have said it before, relegation/promotion should be automatic and the club coming up should be given the whole of their first season in the SPL to make their ground compliant if it isnt already ... that way they can use the extra money made to develop their ground (as well as trying to compete). I would also get rid of the undersoil heating rule and go with "adequate pitch protection" which might be USH or a blanket or even what they use over here .. a heated dome that goes up in winter and comes down in summer. We have seen it all the time in D1 - the race is usually tight and clubs have an unrealistic deadline of March to spend loads of cash making themselves compliant when there is no guarantee they will actually win the league and recoup any of that outlay. (I believe its in the dictionary under the heading Dundee )

ICT & That SPL Vote
in other words ....... its all as clear as mud !!!!
