  2. Think it was 84 or 85. Carlton upstairs. they were wasted and bottles were thrown around. Only played 5 or 6 songs and a number of fights broke out and they walked off. Was another band that night too, and cant remember who they were.
  3. Just found an old thread but I can't add to it so may as well start again. Cant believe I never saw it years ago. I seem to have attended the most of those listed from 80s on. Death Cult with a really arrogant Ian Asbury Thin Lizzy with my big brother 999 / Flux of pink Indians in the Rose st Hall, Siouxie and the Banshees Echo and the Bunnymen who did sound crap live Smiths at Eden Court twice Proclaimers at Railway Club, just after they had appeared on The Tube i think missed the Pretenders and Clash, one was my sisters wedding Damned SLF Big Country ( slightly embarrassed ) Hue and Cry ( dragged along to keep ex wife happy, hated them and still do ) Jesus and the Mary Chain which was so loud my ears buzzed for two weeks. Also saw Theatre of Hate but didnt think it was Aviemore, but was very intoxicated. remember vaigely being on stage when they sung Westword. Dr Feelgood at Caley downstairs, again intoxicated to the extreme but didnt know they were playing and ended up getting in somehow. New Model Army, possibly the best gig Ive seen in Inverness, and also possibly the most intimidating

  5. Charles, with regards to the oil reserves found west of Shetland, thinking it is more than the North Sea held is an absolutely vast amount, considering, that was shared with Norway. And that is for the areas that they have explored, their are many more companies than BP looking. Regards being compared to the Republic of Ireland, we are a much more diverse nation with a population more like the Scandanavians, than our Gaelic neighbours.

  13. I have two nephews who are very highly qualified in geology, working for oil exploration companies all over the world, but more recently in the North Sea and Altlantic. They have more discoveries west of Shetland, and further north towards the Faroes, and also west of Greenland. One of my nephews is with bp and they already think that they have found more deposits than the North Sea held. London want to syphon of the proceeds of that via unbreakable contracts as soon as possible. The oil is not going to run out for a few generations, but we should be looking to prosper without that income, its just a very plump cherry on top
  14. ACDC - biggest balls Bowie - scary monsters Various - the wheels on the bus, ( sung with vigour and replacement words ) New model army - better than them New model army - christian militia New model army - whites of their eyes
  15. Norway has oil granted, they now have standards of living and society we could have had. Sweden and Finland dont have oil, yet they have higher living standards. Denmark has some natural gas, but has extremely high standards and they are the happiest country in the world. Coming from the education background you would have to agree their schooling system really puts ours to shame, standards and conditions. But with all their better standards they are all extremely proud of their nations, and respect everything they have to a greater degree.

  17. Why do people get so wound up when a party so overwhelmingly voted in for their policies in an area of the uk, try to implement those policies. Makes a refreshing change from those who promise change and then never ever try to deliver. Charles, my thoughts on this are that we would be better off, as it would provide more opportunities. Personally, I know it would be better for my business, but we are also good without. My main thoughts are with all of my children and what it can bring for them. One half of our family is Danish, and we see and hear about the differences all the time, and my wifes family visit here often and cannot believe how backwards the uk is, compared to what they accept as standard.
  18. most of them wouldn't know where to find Dumbarton. Its nowhere near enough to Parkheid or Ibrokes.
  19. some of the points against independence on here are so laughable. None of us seriously know how good or bad it would be, but the SNP track record does stand up, and they have done more for Scotland. However we are a long long way behind those Nordic countries, and if anyone was to visit them they would realise what is possible. I have been to 3 of them in recent times, post recession, and standards are what we should be striving to achieve. A lot of serious questions will be asked in the lead up to the vote, and we will all have the opportunity to listen and decide, but to post stupid petty things really doesnt change anyones thought process. If Scotland were to gain independence, which is still a big if, Scotland will still have the same mechanics of the make up, Torries, Liberals, Labour and SNP, who would each influence the direction the country would go. If Scotland vote to stay as part of the British union, peoples desire for independence will not diminish, but continued **** from London may well increase that desire, however, a no vote may also alter Londons thinking towards Scotland, and improve understanding
