  1. To be fair to Stephen Thompson, he is running a tight and sustainable ship whereas his late father let United run at an average annual loss of around a million pounds which gap he plugged out of his own private means. I am not sure that his son can be blamed too much for not doing the same thing.
  2. I don't know any of the facts so this post is entirely uninformed but, on the face of it, to part company with an employee as hard working, dedicated and universally popular with fans seems to me to be rather short sighted and counter productive.
  3. I don't suppose our guest from Swindon wants reminded about the last of these....
  4. Have you not thought that her reasons for leaving are entirely her own business ?
  5. Definitely going to have £20 on that.....
  6. The fact that the OP now has 16 'likes' and rising just demonstrates what high regard Laura is held in by so many.
  7. If both Shinnies had played it would have been at least 40-0....
  8. Very sorry to hear Laura has gone. Always obliging and a great ambassador for the club who often went a fair bit more than the extra mile on behalf of the club to assist fans which, several times, included myself. Good luck to her and heartfelt thanks for all her help over the years.
  9. It doesn't matter what the print, large or small, says, no employee can be held against their will. We cannot stop him from moving to another club if he's determined to and it would then be a matter of seeking compensation for breaching the contract either from Hughes or United which could take months and have significant costs. If he wants to go then much better to get compensation agreed and paid now.
  10. Credit to St Johnstone who have no bigger a fan base and no more resources than us and their manager Tommy Wright for managing to resist Dundee United's approach and agreeing a new long term contract. That goes to prove that mutual loyalty can still exist and be rewarded in football these days. Clearly if there was such goodwill at the TCS it did not exist in sufficient measure on both sides.
  11. Let's get this done with as much compensation and as quickly as possible so that our club can move onto it's next successful chapter in our remarkable history.
  12. You mean given how successful he was last time.....
  13. What makes you believe that the manager has not been offered a new contract ?
  14. The so called 'option to extend' is not enforceable. Do you think that if he effectively had two years left on his contract we would have sold him in the Summer for as little as half a million ? Nor could he have left for nothing in January, firstly, because he could only sign a pre contract to leave in the summer but, unless a fee was agreed for an immediate transfer, would have been obliged to stay to the end of the season and, secondly, because we would be due a development fee albeit a modest one. That said, given that he only had a year left on his contract that we could enforce, getting £500,000 for him and having him back at least until January was not a bad bit of business,
  15. If we want Klop we are going to have to act quickly.
  16. Can we keep this thread on topic please. If or when the time comes to discuss a new manager a thread will be opened. Until then, this thread is for discussing John Hughes's contract.
  17. Kingsmills replied to Dargo20's topic in Caley Thistle
Which we enquired about but couldn't afford to....

I disagree. United may not be the club they once were but still have a player budget at least 50% greater than ours or St Johnstone's hence the reason they are in a position to recruit the likes of Billy McKay and we are not which is all the more to the credit of ourselves and the Perth Saints for outperforming them in recent seasons.
  19. I suggest you set a great deal more store by what the chairman and manager say than what you read in these comics...
  20. Great result indeed and a great atmosphere created by the fans but we can do without the stupid, illegal and potentially dangerous actions of the few wee boys who never seem to learn.
  21. The fee for Iain Stewart was decided by tribunal and came as a bit of a shock to the club.
  22. Kingsmills replied to izzy's topic in Caley Thistle
In stark contrast to County's failure to come close to filling the South Stand in their several most recent visits to our place.
  23. Boy did he catch a severe dose of the Highland Curse....
  24. Winnable home tie for Clach. Pity it clashes with our home league game against the Perth Saints.
  25. It's not the move and destination that makes him a club legend, I was meaning more along the lines that John Hughes' influence helped our top product make a higher move. Would Ryan Christie still be a Celtic player today if Terry Butcher was still manager - I'm not so sure. Ryan Christie has a natural talent and would have attracted a move to a 'big' club whoever was manager..
