signing for next season
That gives me the impression that these trialists might be wingers then. I think "the next Jonny Hayes" just means unearthing a player we've never heard of who goes on to become a star player for us.

Pre-Season Friendlies / Early Season Games
Will this be the first time we've had royalty at TCS since Wyness left? Looks like it won't be the first if the Real Valladolid game takes place on the 3rd. Two Royal teams in 4 days. Does anyone know how you pronounce Valladolid anyway, is it along the lines of Vayadolleeth?

It turns out the officials called that one absolutely right. Within FIFA's Laws of the Game, Section 30 Subsection 18 Para 7(d)(iii) clearly states that "ALL of the ball must be at least a foot over the line before the referee can even consider awarding England a goal" Having David Will inside FIFA for all those years was not without benefits. :(

To be fair, England actually showed that they can play reasonably well for 90 minutes. (90 minutes spread over 4 games)

Does this mean England's scheduled victory parade won't be happening now? And what about the knighthoods?

I'm tempted to start a poll as to who you want to see replace Capello. The choices I have in mind are : Graham Taylor Steve McLaren Craig Brewster

And they're dancing on the streets of Grosblie tonight! England have been practicing penalties for the last 5 weeks. Perhaps they'd have been better spending their time on the basics, like defending.

To be honest I didn't NZ really deserved to be there, when you consider the standard of opposition they faced to qualify. Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Fiji and Bahrain. Wow. But you can only beat the teams that are put in front of you, and I'm pleased and surprised at how well they did at the finals against some pretty good opponents.

I drove past a Burger King earlier this evening. Outside there was a big board advertising a promotion where you can win the chance to watch the World Cup Final (on TV) with Jimmy Greaves. The place was empty.

You can just about sum up the tournament so far by looking at the continents, with only a few exceptions. The Africans have been a big let down. Asia/Pacific will go home with a fair amount of credit The South Americans have been very good, and must be responsible for more attacking than all the other teams added together. The Europeans have been pretty dismal.

Where or what is Grosblie? Sounds German. There's been a big red Grosblie banner at quite a few of the games in this tournament, and I recall the very same banner appearing frequently at the last few tournaments too.

Absolutely, the world's finest teams haven't been able to get the better of them, despite England being faced with the handicap of playing with a different ball to their opponents.

:( Dire as England have been, they just need to beat wee Slovenia and they will be through, probably topping the group.

Interesting that he still consults Steve Paterson but probably a sensible thing to do, particularly regarding the pros and cons of playing abroad.

The way things are shaping up, assuming England top their piss easy group they are likely to play: Last 16 : Ghana/Serbia or Australia QF : S Korea/Greece/Mexico or Uruguay These teams are no mugs, but a route all the way to the Semi without having to face any of the world's top 10 ranked sides?
