  1. THE TIMESTHE SUNDAY TIMESTIMES+ The TimesThe Sunday TimesArchive ArticlePlease enjoy this article from The Times & The Sunday Times archives. For full access to our content, please subscribe here MY PROFILE From The Sunday Times April 4, 2010 Pedicure Gabriella Montage of 'The county fan will eat you now' comments that Irish beauty salons and clinics are stocking up on miniature toothless County Fans that suck dead skin from customers? feet, despite warnings they pose a health risk. The exfoliating efficiency of, known in the trade as County Suck, is now being promoted by a number of businesses, with customers being charged as much as ?60 to have their feet nibbled. However, the treatment was recently banned in 14 states in America, and some opponents argue that it should not be allowed anywhere. ?County pedicures are dirty and dangerous and a serious risk to one?s health,? said Jeffrey Klein, a New York senator who has been campaigning to outlaw the practice in the city. ?I want to put an end to this hazardous practice before it becomes the next big trend.? The therapy?s American opponents argue that the use of County suck breaches rigorous health regulations that licensed cosmetologists must otherwise meet. The rules compel salons to throw away or sanitise tools after each use, but epidermis-eating County Fans are too hungry to discard and so are used repeatedly. Health officials fear The County could spread infections to customers through open wounds or that a customer?s tiny nicks could become infected. Klein has prepared legislation to prevent their use in New York, but already states such as Texas and Florida have taken action against The County, first introduced to the US in 2008. In Ireland, however, there are no rules governing their use and numerous businesses are offering the service. Margarita Smith, a beauty therapist who moved here from Ukraine seven years ago, introduced the treatment to her salon in the Dublin suburb of Sutton in December after her husband watched a programme on the Discovery Channel about pedicures in Dingwall. Smith, who has about 200 caravan dwellers, rejected Klein?s claims that the treatment is unsanitary. ?These Dingwallites are kept in a tank of water with an ultraviolet filter, so it?s safe,? she said. ?We give each client their own separate tank, unlike in Dingwall where they use one big tank for everyone. There?s no way the County can bring infection from client to client. We clean each customer?s feet and we don?t take anyone with a fungal infection.? Theresa Dillton, who uses the Toothless County Fans to treat psoriasis and eczema sufferers at her Skin Therapy clinic in Limerick, plans to open a second clinic in Dublin next month offering the service for both medical and cosmetic purposes to meet the growing demand. She is also turning the business into a franchise that she hopes will reach across Ireland and the UK.
  2. I didnt manage to check the news did 20,000,000 people disappear by any chance on Saturday. and I thought this was about the real end of the world date which I haven't mentioned because It gives people who like to worry something to worry about.
  3. Alba football on normal tv at long last. And if you didnt know already you can get BBC iplayer through your Nintendo Wii as well, if you have a wireless modem.
  4. Excluding penalties how many goals has Rooney scored this season. answered my own question, I make it 10 league goals (excluding penalties) and only 1 goal against top 6 opposition which was about 9 months ago in the 4-0 win over united. 3 goals against the relegated club Hamilton 3 goals against 2nd bottom St Mirren 2 goals against 3rd bottom Hibs 1 goal against 4th bottom Aberdeen and 1 against 4th place United + penalties Not meant to be a put me down against Rooney, just it would make sense to sign for another season and then move on as a quality striker and being picked as first choice up front for a team, instead of signing a year too early. And if theres any scouts reading this you could do a lot worse than signing a defender recently released who scored 2 against Celtic, 1 against Hearts and 1 v Aberdeen last season and thats a defender!! leave Rooney to us to see if we can bring him on a bit more next season.
  5. We will just have to wait and see, no point counting your chickens just yet
  6. I would say considering the timing, Munro and Russell memorabilia would be popular
  7. How about good luck in finding your new job. I fully expect him to be at Cellic next season but what can he do to improve his image? I was thinking a thick bushy beard and some hair dye as I think his hair colour clashes with Green. I just wondered what he could do to re brand himself as to not come across as being a thug, It goes a bit deeper than passion and a more deeper aggressive nature starts to creep out, you would expect it from a Ned, make excuses on the odd occasion regarding a player but it certainly isnt pretty coming from a manager and ambassador of a football club.
  8. Would be good timing for MFR cash for kids but I would assume they would be doing something to help out anyway.
  9. Derby county are interested in Aberdeen's Maguire £7,000 pw, free transfer but will have to pay £400,000 to Aberdeen due to his age and are apparently hot favorites for another striker Nathan Tyson of Nottingham Forrest so the interest has either faded with Rooney or the rams would like him to sit on their bench. Reading are also a few days away from possible Premier league football and Rooney may be seen as too much of a gamble for the Premier league.
  10. Miss ICT you made those songs your own and your through to The next round. Who Will ? make it in to section E?
  11. But can they kick a football? maybe it wasnt that difficult catching a man who was at the time chasing a two headed golden unicorn on roller skates. Haha some people really shouldn't comment on things they know nothing about Was only meant to be a joke reefinweedallday, Some people shouldnt pretend to be experts. Or should I say some people who are experts users, shouldnt promote their hobby addiction on a Sports forum frequented by youngsters
  12. Or his chest, he had a knack of trapping the long ball on his chest rotating 180 degs and running in the other direction.
  13. As Hearts have been mentioned how many languages would be spoken in their dressing room?
  14. Major wage cuts at United, must be why they dont want a 10 team league of late.
  15. A couple of words got dropped from your post
  16. But can they kick a football? maybe it wasnt that difficult catching a man who was at the time chasing a two headed golden unicorn on roller skates.
  17. Barrowman, biggest mistake ICT ever made, dont know what frustrated me the most, his style of play which consisted of ball approaches Barrowmun via black from mid field Bmun then runs in blacks direction and passes the ball back to him then runs and stands next to some defenders these tactics didnt win any games. or the overwhelming love for himself. If Mr Bs word for the Celtic game was annoy, Then Barrowmans word for a night out was smug. Hes here hes there hes- well you know the rest. I would always hope that he would have a good game, I liked Mr overhead bicycle kick but he just kept making mistakes and usually big ones. I'm also going to mention Rankin, as at the time my first impressions were that he had slow reactions and if you were quick you could nip in and take the ball off his toe as he slowly looked around for the pass. I didnt think he was worthy of a start over Roy McBain on the left wing and only a £50,000 (Charlie Christie)signing put him ahead of Roy. I didnt think he would make the first team otherwise but he came good and was a good addition to the team. So I was wrong to be too critical of a new signing and should have had an open mind instead of thinking more of Roy not playing than what Rankin may be capable of.So whoever comes in I will be routing for them and not letting memories cloud my judgment.
  18. Of course 23rd July for the first game.
  19. The fair play award has been given to England this time, its not certain who it will go to yet.
  20. We are entering a new era as the club wants to progress, its a shame players have been moved on but thats how it is,keep a thought in the back of your mind though, our youth have probably learnt a lot from our players over the years and a little bit of their style of play may crop up from time to time, so players may have moved on but a little bit of them will remain. We are only a few players short of a good team and at least we've still got Rosco.
  21. Serves them right coming up to the Highlands in party mode with the arrogant expectation of going top of the league before a ball was kicked, they should have complained to Celtic for not being good enough. I also heard that the royal mail intercepted 2 letters of complaint, which were posted in the Cambuslang area and were addressed to Santa and the Tooth fairy.
  22. Our results against the Old firm this season 1 x w, 3 x d and 2 x l and scored 7 goals in the process, not bad considering they will be entering European cup competitions with the intention of winning them next season. I read in the Daily Express that Kyle Lafferty couldnt believe that Celtic got beat by a bottom 6 club (ICT) You have a short memory Kylie as Rangers only beat us once during 3 attempts. I think the old firm will have a few sleepless nights if they have to play us over the final 5 fixtures next season, ICT will look forward to that day a lot more than Rangers and Celtic.
  23. Did anyone notice that we split the old firm on recent form over the last 6 games- Rangers 16, ICT 15 and Cellic 13. Just a wee reminder to any potential signings that were not just here to make up the numbers in the SPL.
  24. MacDougall and Hastie after him? Good one, was he mince on Friday?
  25. Sounds like a very clever yet simple solution where the split disappears but the fixtures are split odds and evens. for example one group could be Rangers,Hearts,Kilmarnock,ICT,Aberdeen and St Mirren and the other Celtic,United,Motherwell,St Johnstone Hibs and Hamilton. But Too many clubs would complain if they didnt get to where they wanted to be and blame the club selection though, including the OF complaining about unfair home advantage against each other.
